This is a cool video. I was facing this dilemma a few years ago, I had my E92 DCT M3 for nearly 3 years at the time and I wanted to try the V10. Also, the E60 M5 is the ONLY 4 door sedan with a rwd, manual & a NA V10 (hence making it a true exotic car).
Cool comparison. I've got an E92 M3 6MT and an E60 M5 6MT also in Canada. While the M3 handles better, the S85 (with long tube headers especially) sounds totally out of hand. My M5 was 6MT from the factory. Also LCI like this one.

There is this sweet spot in the m5 I find, when you hit approx 4500 rpm’s the sound becomes harmonic. Don’t get me wrong at 8200 the true orchestra awakens.
12:06 I can confirm, a shorter gear works well. My e92 m3 has BMW Motorsport 4.44 Final Drive and it drives great. Topspeed is not important for me (it’s not more than 280-290kmh) but lower rpms and acceleration are better.
The E92 is still such a beautiful car, especially the M3. The front is near perfect! The only thing I would have liked is for the rear to have been widened as aggressively as the treatment the E90 got. The coupe rear doesn’t match the front as well as the sedan does. It’s still my favorite driving experience of the M3s, though the E46 and E36 are the ones I’d choose for a track. I want the S85 but I want it in the E63 M6.

to make this list complete, in year of 2008 you could buy from BMW dealership all 3 M Cars options including Z4M inline NA S54 powered M car, that would be a wild comparison
I like the manual trans in the m5 but it doesn’t really go to well with the s85 the smg is really a pain in the ass but the gear ratios are perfect which makes sense the smg 3 was made specifically for the S85. A dct m5 would be very interesting and if I decide to swap mine I’d probably go for the dct instead of the manual.
Are you crazy? It’s like have a full meal and a snack. S85 v10 all day everyday. The sound of that engine is about the best produced in bmw history for consumer vehicles
M3 e92 looks perfect and modern even today, can’t say the same about the e60. I don’t know what it is, but something just puts me off looking at it. Like I really want to enjoy how it looks, but I can’t
Long gearing can be annoying for street spirited driving. For example, my ZX10R’s first gear goes up to 90mph! Not fun to be able to go through gears and rev the engine out without getting into high speed trouble/safety on the street. But a ZX6R would be better suited with shorter gear ratios.
I had both and I kept my M3 :-) I was really tired of the SMG after a year of daily driving it. As a manual I would have prob kept it too. Speaking of value, I sold my last year for 55k Euro.
Having own and still own M cars all FI'd out new and older, each M have their characteristics. For me the E39 M5 is the goat, this model that was famously dubbed as the wolf in sheeps clothing. Size, Power, looks is on point, just install 9.5 all around and slap some RA1's and ur good for the meantime lol! add a 3.45 diff and an ESS supercharger and skip the CAI or dinan S2 been there done that and nothing i mean nothing will come close to an ESS supercharged V8 now we're talking lol. BMW M division should drive the e39 M5 every time whenever they start designing a newer model for reference jmho. As for the e60 M5 i call the deep sea diver, gives me a different grin whenever i drive it, If u own one keep and maintain it because once everyone understands that the rod bearing issue was overly exaggerated by people not understanding what their talking about and will just need to read the manual to know how to properly maintain and drive the car, the price will go up exponentially starting next year. F10 is ok but loving the F90 over, imma skip on the new hybrid M5, anything electrical when it comes to any european car is so much more complicated as they age so imma have to pass on the next M5. As for the M3 i'd start on the e46 M3 great car e9x is good track car out of the box and for people complaining on the lower tq number its because when ur at the track ur basically on second third and 4th at a higher revs thats where u need the most attention on tq and rev match to maintain that power if i have to choose which E9x ill choose the E90 M3 not sure why but its solid specially at the track, The F82 M4 well balanced car i wish they kept the size of the e9x other than that no complaints on the engine and mods u can add is a breath of fresh air from previous models u dont have to spend a lot the downside if something happens on the engine it can be pricey. Haven't picked up a G82 M4 but have heard good things about them, thinking of the first gen M2.
Re M3, I don't get the seat height comment, I have heard a few other youtubers say it too, but I'm 5'10 and find the sitting position just fine. Nor do I find the gearchange rubbery, although mine has also had a short stick fitted.
Good luck finding a decent e60 m5 in the states they have pretty much become pre historic most have blown motors most people can’t afford to maintain it the m3 are definitely still around and easier to get but I’m seeing less and less of those aswell

I was like agreeed 😂
There is this sweet spot in the m5 I find, when you hit approx 4500 rpm’s the sound becomes harmonic. Don’t get me wrong at 8200 the true orchestra awakens.
that V10 engine note is insane, high pitch! Love it. But e92 M3 much more of a looker and classic design.
12:06 I can confirm, a shorter gear works well. My e92 m3 has BMW Motorsport 4.44 Final Drive and it drives great. Topspeed is not important for me (it’s not more than 280-290kmh) but lower rpms and acceleration are better.
The v10 sounds godly
The E92 is still such a beautiful car, especially the M3. The front is near perfect! The only thing I would have liked is for the rear to have been widened as aggressively as the treatment the E90 got. The coupe rear doesn’t match the front as well as the sedan does. It’s still my favorite driving experience of the M3s, though the E46 and E36 are the ones I’d choose for a track. I want the S85 but I want it in the E63 M6.
The v10 was sweet and it sounded nice
Love my 2010 E60 M5 ❤️🔥
you interested in selling?
@@MBS.. if the price is right
@@panda51829able how many miles and what color? i’ve been looking for a 2010 M5 but there isn’t many in the U.S, and the ones i find are typically high mileage with no history of rod bearings or any of the other major maintenance done on it.
Same here, 2010 Monaco blue with silver stone leather, smg and full Dinan exhaust
@@musicandmusic9796I got a Silverstone II with black interior ❤
to make this list complete, in year of 2008 you could buy from BMW dealership all 3 M Cars options including Z4M inline NA S54 powered M car, that would be a wild comparison
The sound of that engine is about the best produced in bmw history for consumer vehicles
new co host? this was a great episode
Glad you liked it! I'm sure he'll be back
The last E92 M3 on this channel was mine almost 10 years ago and ppl were saying I was asking too much for it @42 cdn 😂
E92 M3 all the time! It's just an amazing car with one great sounding standard exhaust 😌
M3 e92 looks perfect and modern even today, can’t say the same about the e60. I don’t know what it is, but something just puts me off looking at it. Like I really want to enjoy how it looks, but I can’t
I love the S85 but as a car I would take the M3 any day. Had one for 5 years.
Long gearing can be annoying for street spirited driving. For example, my ZX10R’s first gear goes up to 90mph! Not fun to be able to go through gears and rev the engine out without getting into high speed trouble/safety on the street. But a ZX6R would be better suited with shorter gear ratios.
Great video guys! Please do a F80 vs G80 video. Thanks again
I had both and I kept my M3 :-) I was really tired of the SMG after a year of daily driving it. As a manual I would have prob kept it too. Speaking of value, I sold my last year for 55k Euro.
This is video i'll watch many many times

The V10 singing…❤
16:15 The question is have you switched from 400 to 507 hp M button?
I have a 2007 M6 SMG & Also a 08 Corvette C6 manual…….The vette smokes the hell outta the BMW
Yall should do a review on this one guy's e46 m3 with the V10 swap.
M5 for me!!!!!🎉🎉🎉
Beautiful cars, period.
You need to try a e92 with a 4.44 final drive 👌🏻 the std manual definitely is geared way too tall
VTB put the v10 on E92 M3 when it was new, but very expensive, $250 k if I remember correctly
Does anyone know what the name of the purple is on the M5, please?
Give me the M5......that S85 sounds way better than the S65. The SMG suits the S85 better than the manual.
This looks like the roads over at Fort Langley.
Are there any solutions to the m5 v10s problem with its engine? Any knows solutions?
That m5 color is awesome but I’m not a fan of the sound of that v10 or the cars looks
Love the sound of both. I cant remember the name of the exhaust that can be partner up with the v10 and it would be sound amazing
Eisenmann?
There is a V10 E92 M3 on Driftwerks channel
Two crazies on four wheels.....
They are definitely rare. My neighbor had a clean one in black that was so beautiful. He barely ever drove the thing because he said it costed $1000/drive lol
I couldn't agree more The M3!!
I have an 07 M6 with MT, I am craving an e92 MT. Any others out there? Would love someone’s take.
Not that they’re easy to find but E63 m6s are the best m cars of the 2000s
I’ve been in between trying to get a M550i or get the M540i
Fucking want a V8 before they go into a straight 6 and can’t hear the fucking amazing engine
The one you pick is the one that costs less of a headache to maintain 😅
The only reason you can find these cars are great prices and far from the original pricing is because all M-Cars become endless money pits. The older cars have less modules and stronger engines before all the known BMW M-Engine problems, known today.
A 4 door with a v10 that goes over 200... I show up to car shows and every1 looks to see what sounds better than the Lamborghini and ferrari. You can park that sedan next to super cars at a car show and people that know about cars, know
This is one of my favorite sounding v8’s. This and a de stroked highrevving 8-1 header Ls 😂🤷🏻♂️
Awsome whips ❤ them both 100 % but also love my b7 rs4 unreal machine :-)
Did you even push the m button to unleash the maximum power on the m5?
I can't help but think these guys did not put the M5 into M mode and were driving it around in 400hp mode
m3 is so beautiful needs to be in a glass case
What exhaust is on this M3 WOW?
I’ve owned my e90 m3 for 2 years and I STILL feel weird redlining it. I ALWAYS stay under 5k lmao
