I saw some comments for part one of this video where people have stated that ChocZero causes their blood sugar to spike and that they speculate it could be due to the vegetable fiber. I want to maker sure everyone is aware of this. And I go back to my comments at the beginning of part one where I state that I everyone of us has to "own" what we put in our bodies, and for a lot of folks, that means testing your blood glucose after ingesting any of these products to see if they impact you.

I tried Choczero last week and I was fine and I thought it was really good. I had it with some homemade coconut flour pancakes one day and with a store-bought keto friendly pancake mix another day (the base was made of almond flour). I don’t test my blood sugar, but I now know how it feels when my blood sugar and insulin spikes, and I know certain telltale signs in my body (swelling from water retention for example), and I didn’t get any of that.

Most people know not to have maltodextrin on keto. The companies are aware of this. Not sure if it is true or not, but they do sometimes change the name to "vegetable fiber" to hide it. (Not sure if i am remembering the right product or not, but i do think it was this one that i read that did that).

What causes your blood sugar to spike is monk fruit. Not everyone can eat monk fruit and not get a sugar spike so you must check your sugars after eating to see if it does this for you.

I love this video! I appreciate you and your daughter’s candid feedback so much😀I’ve used the Mrs Butterworth and Walden Farms pre keto- when I was still on the traditional calorie restriction yo-yo circuit and really liked them! I hate chemical tasting items; happily I didn’t get that taste with those two at all! Prior to finding your channel, I thought I’d only ever eat bacon and eggs for breakfast forever.... actually that made me very sad, so most days I skip breakfast. Now, I’m planning to make a keto French toast with the Aldi bread I learned about from your review, and one of these syrups! Yay for options 😀😀 Thank you for making my journey that much more doable! ❤️I’m almost at a weight and visceral fat percentage that I didn’t think was attainable. And my arthritic knees bother me a lot less now! This is in just over a month with keto I feel like I’ve found gold! Thank you 😊

PSA: *Tapioca Fiber is another name for Isomalt.* It is a sugar and should NEVER be subtracted to get net carbs, and should NEVER be consumed on a keto diet because it is just a refined sugar like High Fructose Corn Syrup. If you've been consuming a little bit of it it might be flying under the radar, but if you're stalling and this is in the food you eat, *cut it out*

On the North East Coast in most supermarkets we have Cary's Sugar Free Syrup: 5cal /2Tbs. Total carb 3g, sugar alcohol 2g. Sweetened with (in order) sorbitol, sucralose, acesulfame potassium, aspartame. Common sweeteners used in sugar free beverages. Syrup thick and good maple flavor. I put it on greek yogurt or cottage cheese.

So far Choc Zero has been my favorite “keto” maple syrup.
Lately, I’ve been putting a handful of frozen blueberries in a ramekin and in the microwave, mushing them up a bit, and putting that on my pancakes/waffles.
A bit of butter makes it a bit richer, a great addition. As a kid I hated adding butter 🤷🏻‍♂️

Agreed with you on the tastes of these syrups. ChocZero is some of my favorite syrup, but sometimes the flavors don’t quite align with the flavors they are supposed to be. I have tried all their syrups and they are all good in their own way. The chocolate syrup is fantastic on top of ice cream, and their strawberry and banana syrup is really good in smoothies. The amount of fiber makes me nervous however. I need to do more self experimentation to see if it’s the syrups themselves or what I’m eating with them, but sometimes I do get GI issues or unstable hunger consistent with being kicked out of keto. I’ve seen some people do blood tests with the Choc zero syrups and report no change in ketone or blood sugar levels, so who knows. I need to order more test strips and I might test myself. I’m fairly certain they are using liquid corn fiber which should not affect blood sugar at all. This is what the other choc zero products use and I can consume several servings of their chocolate with no issues. Lily’s chocolate on the other hand gives me horrific gas and bloating for hours, even a single serving. It’s the excessive amount of inulin in Lily’s that does this. So Choc Zero is my go to company for chocolate and chocolate chips now.
The Walden Farms syrup, despite being full of chemicals and sucralose, never cause me any GI or blood sugar issues and is also delicious. It’s also cheap in the grocery stores near me. They have a strawberry syrup that is really good too, but their maple is definitely my favorite.

Lakanto keeps changing the recipe (for the worse) I believe there are 4 different different. We used the Lakanto religiously up till about 2 weeks ago when my kids opened a new bottle and it's like pure water. Taste is bad and kids didnt eat their waffles for the first time in history.
We have done the choc syrup before but noticed kids sneaking it. I know from experience that it was spiking their blood sugar. I have gotten a strawberry syrup from Amazon that my (Wäbry)family quite likes and remimds us of the IHOP strawberry but real. My son likes to make strawberry milk with it and Milkadamia. HOWEVER, we are needing to trim the budget a bit and "Keto" Syrups are quite pricey so thank you forthis video it really helped me decide how best to proceed.

I hate to say this, because I really like supporting You-Tubers via the affiliate links they provide, but that price of $14.99 was $10 MORE expensive than the $4.99 of the Walden Farms website. (Everything on their website is $4.99) I purchased several items from them, eight to be exact, and the shipping was only $8.95 for all eight items. MUCH CHEAPER! Thanks for the info, and the effort from Serious Keto!

Sucralose is Splenda. It has a glycemic index of 0 so it should be perfectly safe. Another great video!

    • @SeriousKeto
      @SeriousKeto  3 года назад +3

Mostly. Splenda is a brand. They also have allulose as a product. The little yellow packets are around 5% sucralose and 95% maltodextrin. I have some “uncut” sucralose and I believe the sweetness of 1/32 tsp equals one cup of sugar. A lot of people hate on it either because of the maltodextrin in Splenda or because a study showed that massive amounts of it damaged the gut biome of mice.

What annoys me is when someone is endorsing a product that has sucralose, but promotes being clean. not for myself because I know the difference, but it can confuse someone new to Keto. Now if a channel is saying they are lazy or dirty, I watch those too for recipes, I understand if they are using the wrong mayo.
My point, if a channel is promoting clean, they can confuse a new person. Later that person is not losing weight they don't understand why, I see this all over the net. Sorry if anyone offended you, love watching your videos, depend on your reviews.

    1. ChocZero Maple - monk fruit 1 T 1 net carb. Thick. Not strongly maple but not bad. Caramel - tastes good, but like butterscotch. (Steve says it’s expensive!)
Chocolate-again, very thick. Tastes like chocolate frosting, tastes good.
    2. Le canto combined with ChocZero - one reader recommended but they don’t like it.
Smuckers & Mrs. Butterworth least expensive. Log Cabin good and inexpensive but has questionable ingredients.
Retest on ChocZero maple - tastes vanilla and maple. Perhaps try watering it down and adding maple flavor stevia drops.
    4. Walden farms - maple, good flavor. 1/4 c Zero total carbs. Sucralose. Steve really likes this one.
    Blueberry- sharp, tangy flavor
    5. Pyure- 27 g total carbs, 13 g fiber, 10 g erythritol, 4 g net carbs. Also stevia. Thin. Reminds Steve a lot of natural maple syrup.

The Choc Zero syrup is super thick, but if you heat it up in a small sauce pan, it'll thin down, i would think.

I have the lakanto syrup and like it ok. But its definitely not terrible. You should contact them and see if they will send you another bottle. That choc zero stuff is definitely delicious!! I mixed some of the caramel one with some butter and cook down for some pecan pie bars!! Yum!!

At my local Pick n Save(im in Wisconsin too!) The only choices I have are Carey's Sugar Free, Lakanto, and Walden Farms.
Walden Farms is an easy winner for me and is my go to Maple Syrup. I love their chocolate and caramel syrups as well. Have not tried any of their other products though.

choczero is mostly tapioca fiber labeled as "liquid vegetable fiber" so it's about as keto as high fructose corn syrup.

We love the Choc Zero. We live in Canada so yes it's expensive, but considering how often we use it, we don't mind too much. I do add water to mine. And Steve, you pronounce caramel correctly if you live in Canada 😃, at least that's how I've always pronounced it.

DO NOT ADD WATER !!!! I put the bottle in a cup of hot water when I make up my waffles.
The Choc Zero gets thinner when it's warmer. Chocolate is great warmed up to put on ice cream and it take a very little amount of the maple or flavored maples on the waffles. It's actually sweet and needs no sugar.

I am super wary with sucralose but I've learnt to test my tolerance to products with it in - if I'm OK I test hubby (diabetic). We are both fine with the Walden farms syrups and they are definitely the best ones we've found available in the UK. I have a few of them and the only one I'm not keen on is the caramel, but I've totally gone off caramel flavour since starting keto so it may be me. I always love taste testing videos and would rather see all the choices available - people can always make their individual choices depending how strict they are with their keto diet.

Favorite dirty syrup is Maple Grove Farms cheap at Walmart and you can get butter flavor or Maple flavor. 2 net carbs per 1/4 cup but VERY dirty ingredients. I actually preferred this to sugar syrup before I did keto. Now I just make my own.
To thicken up those thin syrups you've got, add 1/4 tsp xanthan gum per cup in a bullet style blender or put in a container with high sides and use immersion blender. Bullet works better though and it gets better with time or 30 seconds instead of 5 in the blender.

I think the lakanto you have may have started fermenting. I have purchased 6 bottles in the last 2 months and the stuff does bubble if shaken. The bubbles dont seem to pop much but when I tasted it I did not get a soda vibe like you did. I know the stuff is thin but to me had the best flavor for the ones I have tried. I do know everyone's taste is different though. For me I hate bitter stuff and havent noticed a bitter taste using stevia but tons of other people say it is bitter. Most of the people who say it taste bitter also like cilantro which I cannot stand. Maybe it has to do with genetics? Not sure but I do love your videos!

We recently found and like a maple syrup by Birch Blenders that we quite like. It is a bit on the thin side and has a mild maple flavor. It has 1 net grams carbs and is sweetened with monkfruit only. There are no "suspect" ingredients nor any wood alcohols in the listing. Worth a try, I think, for anyone looking to not use sucralose. The label specifically calls out that it is Keto and Paleo. Not cheap but not astronomical either at Kroger. You can find it on Amazon, though it has a very bad rating there. Not sure why because the bottle we got sure doesn't taste like many reviewers on there say it does. Oh well, it is all subjective, right?

Thats a pretty old Berg video, and even on the video if you read the comments there are a bunch of people even that many years ago saying how bad that product is and that it raises their blood sugar. The FDA is reviewing it this year and it will likely not be categorized as a fiber anymore, but a sugar like high fructose corn syrup. Fiber Yum is no good

Log Cabin is a 10/10 for flavor, even though it's pretty bad for you, your not drinking it by the quart. Walden Farms has a slightly less offensive ingredient list and is even lower in calories but the flavor is a 9.5/10. Those are my top two flavor wise i haven't tried the ChocZero though due to $$$. I think the Lakanto you guys got was bad cuz I don't remember it being terrible when I tried it a couple years ago.

I'm the same on a lot of these "dirty" keto sweeteners or syrups. I use them maybe once per month, so I might as well enjoy them. Besides, I looked at the Sucralose study on mice and I'd need to consume 40 packets of Splenda per day at my body weight to equal the dose they gave the mice.
