- Ski The Windows (Window #1) on Peak 9 at Breckenridge Colorado with Breckenridge Ski School Instructor Ted Amenta, available for private ski and snowboard lessons upon request.
Visit www.amenta.com/ski/hello.htm for more information about private ski & snowboard lessons with Ted.
The Windows on the north side of Peak 9 at Breckenridge Colorado have some of the best expert, double black diamond, tree skiing anywhere. Being north facing and shaded by trees, snow conditions stay fresh in The Windows longer than just about anyplace else on the mountain. Just make sure not to fall in the creek on the way back to E-Chair!
Ted Amenta is also a Summit County Real Estate Broker. Visit www.amenta.com/ for full listing details for all Breckenridge Real Estate listings.
I’m not a skier of myself, but I snowboard. I have to say this is quite a smooth video to watch
Im a predominant snowboarder and recently picked up skiing as well. I highly recommend trying skiing its amazing to go back to being a beginner again!
One of the best tree-skiing vids I've ever seen -- and THANK YOU for not drowning out the real sounds with "music"!!!! Now I want to go back to Breckenridge -- that was my first Western ski trip after starting (at age 40, 26 years ago); lately Aspen is my favorite, but those runs look wonderful! I'll look for you in 2020.
jamesbachreeves: You’ve got to be kidding. You need to do a little more searching.
@@mrsmartypants_1 shhhhh let it be, more for you and me
Thomas H: Ha Ha. Yeah you’re right.
It sounds icy but if you look you can tell it’s just the sounds of his amazing turning
I'm a snowboarder and even I'm impressed with your skills here. I held my breath during the Rick's Runout part. If I lived out west I'd def take you up on your offer to learn how to ski.
Trees do not move. A very challenging run.
Great job skiing that. You know what your doing. That area is amazing, so well spread out.
Windows above my skill level. Amazing how much speed control you have. Very enjoyable video.
They tend to open windows as soon as they possibly can at breck. It has exposed tree branches and dirt when they first open it, but on a nice day in spring it’s by far my favorite run on the mountain
Great videos! Really fun to watch.
Perfect camera positioning, and smooth skiing too
One of my favorite to ski solo/partner windows #1 and Rick's Runout. ty for posting!
I'm not a good skier in moguls, but me and the kids just had a blast in ALL the Windows' trails. Love Breck!
Nice form with some great morning spring conditions. That was a good snow year. It was bony in the Windows last year 2019-2020.
This run is really fun on a pow day through the trees although once you get to the trees it's a fine line between keeping speed to not get stuck and hugging a tree with a face.
That was super nice to watch mate! I dunno it was just relaxing and intense at the same time.
Thanks for the awesome account! Got to hit windows for the first time earlier today after seeing this video.
Nice! That looks super fun and reminds me a lot of Crested Butte’s forest, another one of my favorites.
Well done. That looks fun. You video makes me want to go there.
I think what keeps you from speeding up are your balls of steel. I was nervous your whole way down on that trail
How would this even make sense. More mass x gravity = more speed
q s1 I think it is meant as a joke
@@mikem302 r/woosh
q s1 thats not how physics works
nice & smooth.. never lost your breathe!
When I was in Breck windows was my favorite run! But we had a bit of pow then lol. Also stayed in the trees
Great skiing! Planning a trip out here in March so I wanted to check out some trails and get hypeddd
Great video, thanks. Will be in Breckenridge Jan 2022.
Great video! Good for mental rehearsal for the physical movement as well as picking the best place to turn. If I was in Break, I could spend all day in Windows. If it was a powder day :)
Be there on that trail in about five weeks. Nice Spring conditions for this video. Hope to get the same.
When I went to breck, I loved it so much I’m going back
conditions don't look great but you NAILED that
Windows is no joke man. Its a real test of ability.
You made that look so easy through the camera. Wish I knew how to control my speed so nicely, I just feel out of control on those types of double blacks.
Amazing video :)
One of the more difficult glade runs that I have ever seen on video. No way out once committed. Scraped and bumpy.......I may have to pass on that run.
great video cool trail
Sup Ted can't believe you are still there, give and move to Florida like the rest of us!
Ha! In my retirement years, maybe. But for now, I still have plenty of skiing left to do!
You're an excellent skier! I plan to take the kids out to Breckenridge sometime later this year, maybe you could teach them a thing or two!
I'd be happy to! For this season at least, I am trying to keep a calendar current with my availability linked from this page:
www.amenta.com/ski/hello.htm
That’s the kinda trail I took my biggest fall on, if I’m not mistaken it was at Keystone. The trees just kept getting thicker and closer together and the track narrower. I caught a tip, my feet ended up above me, I was on my back like turtle and sliding down the hill. I clipped a couple of trees and then finally got hold of a small sapling to arrest myself. I lost one ski about 100+ yards uphill and was rescued by another skier after trudging halfway back up the slope. Now days I make sure I know the terrain, by talking to others about how densely it is forested before getting into deep. After all I’m not bad, but no expert, I’m after all from the flatlands of Kansas and ski maybe every other year. 😎
This looks soooooooo fun
Window #5 is my favorite window.
Next time I go to Breckinridge I am going to have to do that run
I’m not a skier my self I am a intermediate snowboarder but I am trying to learn to ski again so I can go through trees easier for the next time I go to breck
wonderful indeed. BTW, what is the name of these trees? Kindly enlighten. Thanks. Best regards, Nassa
Rick's Runout looks tough!
My legs are burning just watching this.
Thank you for putting together these guide videos Ted! They are super helpful as I'll be coming to Breckenridge soon. I'd like to see that website updated though. It's a bit hard to navigate on mobile devices.
Thanks Pasindu! Do you know any good web designers? I did the site myself. But trying to keep up with up-to-date design got away from me. And search engines changed their algos to favor big / national real estate sites. It is hard for a little guy to compete. But now that this channel is generating some traffic to the site again, I intend to get it updated this summer.
@@BreckSnowPro Hi Ted, I appreciate your attitude of wanting to keep providing better experiences for your audience. I do happen to a web designer by trade and would love to offer my services if you are interested. If you are, let me know the best way to reach you and we can chat. I will also be in Breckenridge next week in case that provides you with any convenience.
@@pasinduwewegama6515 Ha! I kind of figured as much. I don't want to make my contact info too public and easy for spam bots to find by posting here. But I have links in the descriptions of most of my videos and you will be able to find how to reach me easily enough. Thanks!
@@BreckSnowPro Sent you an email! :)
You closed the deal on that run.Looks very rewarding.
Now that's a real double black run. Gnarly bumps and close trees: not easy. Great speed control there on the hard bumps. Deep knee bends are working for you.
camgreer if you ever go to breck, try our needles eye, it is fun steep thin trees with some bumps if you want
@@projecteer4498 That sounds fun, and I would love to get down there. I have a friend in Dillon who has extended an invitation. I ski Alyeska and we don't have much tree skiing, but the North Face is plenty steep. Keep yer tips up.
The difficulty rating is all relevant to the resort a double in whistler is gonna be different than a double here
Great vid, what skis are you riding? I'm coming out to Breckenridge this winter, and I'm wondering if my Rossi 88's will suffice.
I'm usually on an E88 myself and think it is a great all mountain ski in all but deep powder conditions. On those days, I like something wider under foot.
If I can ski double blacks at gore mt do you think I could ski this?
It a fun and hard run
I recommend it
I know this place...its out of bounds... A fun way to make you think fast.
Was wondering the name of the runout. We did Windows 4 times over MLK weekend - dad and 2 kids (16, 21) - all expert skiers. It was our favorite run, but a word of caution to counter many of the comments minimizing the difficulty and hazards. This is a true double black for the following reasons: it's technical - tight turns in trees, irregular bumps throughout, exposed roots and rocks, holes that drop you into a running creek or onto exposed rocks. Double black is more than steeps. More than most runs, a misstep in Windows will hurt. However, if you have the necessary skills, you'll likely love it and come back for more.
The runout is "Rick's runout" I skied the lower portion of it near the creek in this video. I could have started traversing right a little sooner, higher up on the hill, also.
favorite run. can you do more windows?
Yes...I will almost certainly get more Windows videos shot this season...if the snow remains good for it. So far, this season has been a good one.
wicked trails.. doesn't it hurt the tip of your toes or ur feet from the moguls? Mine do. im not that good of a skier though..
Dude is making love to the air at 5:50. Niiiiiice!
What is the best entrance on windows?
I’m unfamiliar with Peak 6. Can you video some runs on Peak 6. Much appreciated.
I'll shoot more this coming season but there are currently eight Peak 6 videos in the Peak 6 playlist.
Those are double blacks? What's the slope angle??
I wasn't aware of this run and took it rather by accident. Not easy but beautiful to ski
can you ski corbet's couloir because I am eight years old and I have done it
How is the Wanderlust catwalk over to 6? Wouldn't mind seeing!
Someone else asked for The Dunes and I will do them both the same day...hopefully soon. I expect that it is skiing well now and for the rest of the week at least.
Is it always this icy in Breck?
Could you show us the Whale’s Tail?
Have you done Blitz bowl yet? If not can you do that one
Do you mean "Bliss" on Peak 6? If so, yes and I will look for it.
Nice vid since I’m now 13 I’ve been looking for harder stuff to ski at Breckenridge
Im the same age and all i can do is the top of peak six lol i ski by my house in wisconsin lol
I live in Illinois but I go up there to ski like 3 or 4 times but I skied since I was 2 my favorite run is the whales tale
@@mrbrody2772 same here and ive really only done an area between serenity bowl and bliss as the hardest ive done
Have you done a breck double black before
@@mrbrody2772 no they seem soo hard lol
Super impressive. The gap between the trees sometimes seems so narrow there's just no way you're gonna fit through there! But is it the camera? Or are you that skinny?
Not really :-) I'll get the camera turned on myself one of these days. Trees seem to come out well on camera. Videos of steeps look less steep than they feel. And everything looks faster on film than it seems skiing.
What are the runs you take people on to get to a double black
I'll make sure people are comfortable on single blacks, then take them up Imperial Chair and let them see Imperial Bowl up close. If they don't feel good about it, we will take Imperial Ridge down.
Very cool video - but is the double black rating accurate? I would have guessed that to be a single black.
GoPro makes it look not steep I guess you could say.
I would have looked like a pinball going down that
Great video! What's the easiest double black down the north side of 9?
@Ryan Hagen - None are really "easy", but Inferno might be a good one to start with. You can see most of them riding E Chair.
@@BreckSnowPro Thanks! We'll check it out time we're out there.
Looks like a few skiers were there ahead of you.
Wow he made that look very easy. I cant control my speed like that.
How is this compared to needles eye? It seems like needles eye is overall harder but you have more room to find the easiest way down
Spam Account?! OK... The Windows is a big area. The line I took here is easier than anything in Needles Eye. As a general statement, for the most part, Needles Eye is steeper and more densely treed than The Windows.
Does the E Chair access Little Burn?
Yes
I’d like to think I’d be okay there... but truth is you are a god and I would likely die going down this path 😂
Recommendations on ski lessons at winter park?
I don't have any contacts there and don't know what their product offerings are. But I have to expect that they will offer private lessons this season, which I would recommend, and I suggest that you ask for someone who is PSIA Level III certified, which is known in the industry as a "Full Cert".
@@BreckSnowPro thank you!
Im not a skier but I always read in the news about someone running into a tree while skiing.. after watching this video I dont understand how it even happens... you have a good 3 inches between your head and those trees and also the trees look pretty soft if you would hit one.. not like a walnut tree or something... Im heading out west soon and im going to do Windows first for sure.
He was skiing with great control through those trees, it's harder than it looks. The news may have also been covering a tree well, which is usually in deeper snow in the trees, and they are hard to escape if you get trapped.
If your not a skier you will never make it out lol
Harry Carrey if your not a skier than you shouldn’t just show up and ski a double black diamond. I’ve skied windows a lot and I lose control occasionally
Also trees are hard af
My son is now a Jr. in college in his home state of Wi.
He skied varsity downhill in high school.
His uncle was born and raised in Boulder Colorado.
My sister, a harpist graduate from the Eastman School of Music, the uncle, Dr. of Cello from Northwestern university married an have lived in Boulder the last forty years. He recently retired after 34yrs with the Denver Symphony and 25yrs with the Central City Opera Orchestra. My sister was the harp faculty at the University of Denver and first call union harpist in the Denver area. They are both 70 and are still skiing in the Rockies at many of the world's iconic ski areas just minutes from Boulder.
They invited him to go skiing in the area when he was a high school senior. He had never skied out West. He skied with his cousin. The problem is that my son, since birth, has had no physical fear!! So there they were, skiing the black diamond AND double diamond runs. That seemed to go fine (we have video). So on the second day his cousin suggested they ski the "glades" (as shown in this video) through the trees.
Seems everything was going well (more video). Then apparently a tree branch stepped out in front of him and whacked him across his right shoulder and chest (we have the photos) raising blood blisters and bruises (he survived). The next day back out on the slopes and into the glades again (told you, no fear......or just dumb(?).
He had a blast skiing the through trees that had no packed paths as seen in this video, all powder. I hope he'll have his own kids someday!
Where is Narnia Tree section
Good old Colorado ice 🧊😬
I'd love to ski with nobody around but me and my friend
You make it look easy and we all know this is very very hard..
You still doing private coaching?
Yes, I will be this coming winter. Visit BreckSnowPro.com for my contact info. I'm starting to put a list together of those who want to be notified when we can start making reservations.
Do u have a top to bottom vid
Yes, look in the play list for Peak 8.
@@BreckSnowPro great thx
Breck needs to get in a lot of these areas and clear out a lot of the smaller trees. So much of their tree skiing is this crappy tight stuff that isn't good
needles eye !
OMG....I would have hit a tree and died. Thanks for posting!
You should do whales tail and zoot chute
Excellent vid, gave you a like ^‿^
Goodskiing
This is a green at Snowbird.
How do I get lessons from you for next year
Visit www.BreckSnowPro.com, I'll keep booking details posted there. Thanks for asking!
Should my family of 6 be in a different class if we choose you but we are different levels
@Quinn Boudreaux Perhaps. I need to keep the least skilled people in a group on terrain, and moving at a pace, that is appropriate for their ability. But, you can also move me between different members of your group at different times during the day. If you want a second instructor, I can recommend one.
RUclips messages like this often do not show up in my notifications. If you would like to continue this correspondence, please visit www.BreckSnowPro.com for my contact info. Thanks!
in what world is this expert
Coming to realize I ski trees like a maniac
I ask my self how the heck is this a double black diamond 😂
awesome s go pros make it seem less steep
awesome go do it !!!
Abu Vids your like 10, you probably only ski blue open runs😂
Nico Kellerman probably greens
if you can ski down a double black forest terrain without powder as smooth as this guy did then i'll shut up but i'd like to see you try this. even after 3 years of snowboarding doing trails like this for me at least is still quite nerve wracking. like the first replied said, go pros lens make runs look less steep than they actually are
Wow, even with the GoPro angle, it looks so steep. It should not be a double black. It should be an EX.
sounded crunchy any icy
There are powder days for a reason
What's up Ted
Hello Niwar!
How is this a double black. Ever skied trees on the east coast?
do Dark rider
Will do, once we get some more snow. In the meantime, these are very similar:
