Wondering if you've ever messed with a ford LCM units ? I've been tinkering with one from an 04 towncar that is being difficult , unfortunately it isn't suffering from the usual stuff that fails . This one has a lack of communication via DLC on the car or bench . On the bench you'd swear this thing is operational . Any thoughts ? Thanks
its been a very long time since Ive seen one of these so I dont remember it too well. I would power it up and check to see what activity is on main chip. If has some, I would investigated the com circuit next.
Why not just put in normal relays instead of custom ss relay ? Do they sell original relays ? Also the fcm headlamp bulb driver shows 30 amps but isn’t the driver chip just activating the low current side of relays?
The original relays for the these ipms are obsolete. There is a direct fit replacement but its pretty overpriced so I made a custom one instead. Those are for the trailer turn signals though not the lamps. The FCM is not activating a relay for the front lamps its sending the high side (b+) control directly to the incandescent bulbs so it needs to handle the current appropriately.
Awesome! Thanks for the detailed repair, and was excited when you brought out the curve tracer. Can’t wait to watch your next repair.
