    A long haul trucker friend told me a trick they use to extend battery life. Annually, or when you notice your battery losing power, add a 325 grain aspirin tablet to each cell. This desolves the buildup on the plates and renews the cells. In the last year I lost 2 Interstate batteries. One was 9 years old and the other 13.

    I fill my Marine Interstate battery every year. After you top off and put it on the charger, sit by your battery and listen in. You can here the cells charging with subtle popping noises. Cool stuff.

    I might suggest an Equallization charge at least seasonally as well, at least for any starting purposes 👍 ~

    I know this is an older video, but I feel my question is still pertinent. I have a two battery system wired parallel. Is it absolutely necessary to run the same type batteries in parallel? Ex. two starting, two dual purpose, etc? I have a Blue Sea ACR setup with a single on/off switch. I run one as starting bat and one as house for electronics.

    • @BrianGaberFishing
      @BrianGaberFishing  7 дней назад

      @@TangierFly Do you mean same group (27/31 etc)? My starting battery is a different group than my house. Are you saying you have 2 house running in parallel?

    • @TangierFly
      @TangierFly 7 дней назад +1

      @@BrianGaberFishingI currently have two group 27 dual purpose bats that I want to replace. I thought I might run one starting bat for the cranking and the other a deep cycle for the house. Both 27. I have been told not to mix the starting and deep cycle in parallel. Especially with the one position switch ACR. Something about they wouldn’t charge the same when the engine’s alternator is charging both. The boat manufacturer told me he recommends two starting bats. I usually only run a ff/gps on the house while the engine is off.

    Hi Brian, would you recommend using a marine deep cycle battery on a newport NT300 motor?

    • @BrianGaberFishing
      @BrianGaberFishing  2 месяца назад +1

      You could. Those motors will go 5.5 mph and will use 23% of a 100 amp hour battery (36volt system) in an hour. The conditions (wind/waves) will affect those results. But if you have a 36 volt system and some amp hours, it should work just like the deep cycles that have powered all the trolling motors before the lithium batteries came online.

      Interesting. Did you see the comment below about aspirin?

    • @djl8841
      @djl8841 2 месяца назад

      Don't do that. You will only cause more off gassing. If the hydrated cells won't charge, either your charger has a low voltage cut off, or your battery is just that worn out, or you have an improper mixture of electrolyte. Could be grounded out retaining walls between the cells from warping due to excess heat. If this is the case your battery will hold weird voltages based on how many cells are within. For example a car battery holding 10vdc after a charge is a 12 plate 1v cell grouping. With 2 plates grounded, it bypasses those cells only outputting 10 volts. Do not use this battery. There are some higher end chargers that will refurbish a battery with a proper charging cycle. But, it's probably best to get new batteries and take better care of them. Best of luck.

      Nothing can be done for warped or grounded cells BTW.

  • @djl8841

    Its sheding sulfates into the electrolite turning the acid into water releasing electrons, there is no such thing as a 3 to 1 ratio of the solution. Thats the specific gravity of the acid depending on it's current charge. You are giving advice about chemical equations you dont fully understand. You gave somemgood advice about temperature and basics. But how do you even mauntain your 3 to 1 ratio if you don't even mention a hydrometer to measure the specific gravity of the electeolite. Hydrogen gasses off from the water and evaporates, usually only requiring adding DI-water to maintain the proper level. Recharging the battery will use the H2O with the charge equation turning it back into acid while absorbing electrons and the sulfates back into the plates.
