- The #H160 helicopters are dancing graciously in the air.
The H160 opens a new chapter in the history of Airbus. Joining the helicopter product range between the H145 and the H175, this innovative medium helicopter becomes the first member of the H generation. The entire design was based on one overriding goal: to create added value for customers in terms of performance, economic competitiveness, safety and comfort. Both cleaner and quieter, the H160 takes a step forward in respect for the environment. Its entry into service is planned for 2019.

Nope, the decision has been delayed. Each branches of the army (Navy, infantry, Air force)have specific needs. The navy wants a navalised version (resistant to salt and corrosion), the infantry needs and armoured version (heavy) and the air-force wants autonomy . Suffice to say that adapting a civilian chopper to fit all those requirement when it wasn't planned from the begining of the project will induce some serious overcost. And this is France ... where administrative inertia has become a national sport. We won't see that chopper in the army anytime soon and I wouldn't be surprise that the french army will finally buy some from the italians , after all the AW139 is not a bad machine.
We dont know if the HIL continue or if he's change...
But the H160 is not cancelled... RDV at the next urgency/LPM and Airbus keep the priority atm...

169 H160M have been ordered for French Army, Navy and Airforce. Maiden flight is scheduled for 2023 and to enter service by 2026 stated by Parly, the French defence minister. In fact this is 2 years ahead of schedule (2028 initially)! So much for your rant about French inertia. 😜
In the meantime the French Navy will rent 4 H160 from Babcock and start operating them in 2022 for SAR missions.
Lastly why would the French military buy helicopters from Leonardo since France is a co-owner along with Germany of Airbus?

Great looking helicopter and on paper the proposed final performance specs look competitive. Biggest problem? The AW139 already with a lot of customers, pilots trained and service contracts in place. It will be a tough ride for the H160 coming in to the medium segment this late.

Lame, quadcopters will make helicopters obsolete in two decades at most.
In two decades? ... that gives plenty of time for the H160 to have a good life ... before Airbus release its replacement in 2 decades ; maybe a quadcopter or an hybrid like the X3.

Not going to lie to you bud but quadcopters will never replace a modern rotorcraft or fixed wing aircraft for a very long time. They lack the speed and the aerodynamics that most aircraft thrive off of and not to mention the fact that they aren’t very efficient.
How ever quadcopters could replace heavy lift helicopters as they are more efficient, effective & more stable then helicopters in that regard.
The speed is just a matter of energy, they can be made faster than helicopters if it's needed. Imagine an Osprey with 4 motors and better hovering ability.
