I noticed that. I was upset for a bit because my favorite level 2 song was completely changed.....then I saw level 4 and heard my song nicely remixed. I like the megadrive music direction better. I just wish it had better instruments like this version.
FUN FACT: Shuichi Ikeda, the Japanese seiyuu of Char Aznable from Gundam since 0079, 1979, and Shanks from One Piece, is the voice of that pilot, which is kind of like a nod to Char Aznable.
That has got to be the ultimate “fuck you” ending in a shmup ever. R-Type, Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga, and Sine Mora has nothing on this tragic piece of shit.
Aww, the graphics and sound effects are awful compared to the Mega Drive version! At least the music is great but not better than the MD, just in another style. edit: the Mega Drive port is single player and with checkpoints just like the arcade japanese version. It's the arcade world revision which has co-op and insta-respawns but the developers made this game with checkpoints in mind allowing the player "to create a pattern" as they explained in an interview, which fully makes sense. Also the Mega Drive version has tweaked gameplay with added "Hellfire beam" and others stuff, it's certainly the best version of the game period and one of the best arcade to console ports of the 16-bit era!
For some reasons I just had access to an old answer from a certain Random Guy From Texas who wrote: "What did you expect? It runs on weaker hardware...and the port was done by Nec Avenue, a developer not necessarily known for quality work." But I never mentioned it as spam or anything! o_O Sorry that your post has to be deleted. edit: anyway I edited my OP here and brought more informations. Also a link leading to a full detailed comparison between the different versions of Hellfire will be added as well :)
Graphicaly the PCE one is more colored and close to the arcade one, the Md is awful and lacks many of sprites animations, and GFX are no near close to the arcade (as usual on MD), you're really a sega fanboy, but eatch comments you posted are the same, and i don't expect any partiality a really good sense from you . But here the sound FX of the PCE version are bad, even on the Cd audio tracks .
While I agree the Genesis version was better I thought this version tried to match the arcade version in terms of graphics and 2 player co op closer than the Genesis minus the parallax. However I thought the Genesis version was better Graphically than both the arcade and the PCE. The genesis was also closer to the aracde in terms of SE and music while the PCE had CD based music and terrible in game sound effects. Didn't know about that revision info good to know.
The sound on the Mega Drive is horrible! You must be deaf! The music is incredible on the PC Engine ! I think the Mega Drive has a lot of great games but most ports on the the PC Engine CD usually are better.
+1983parrothead Original arcade version is single player and with instant respawns and the Mega Drive version is faithful to this original and true vision of the game. The Mega Drive port also has better graphics, better scrollings and better sound fx... And it manages all these things despite being released a year prior! And this comes from someone who grew up with the PC Engine version! But I'm an "anti-fanboysism" :D and I always give credits where it's due.
The most tragic ending i've ever seen in shmups. By the way, check out a runplay of Hellfire S with full music on bosses, almost without shot noises on my channel in the PC Engine CD playlist
Imagine if 4KIDS dubbed it. The Intro has the Hero sleeping in Long-Sleeved Pajamas rather than sleeping in Nude and the name will be changed to Redfire.
I 100% agree. The Mega Drive version has way better music than this generic CD arranged work. It's like Zero Wing (another Toaplan shooter) all over again.
I like the music well enough, but the explosions seemed to have more of an impacting "thump" on the Genesis/Mega Drive version, if that makes sense.
Level Jungle music is my favourite and it keeps giving me chill tingles I do not know why.
Did you know that the Ancient level 2 and Jungle level 4's music were switched in this version?
I noticed that. I was upset for a bit because my favorite level 2 song was completely changed.....then I saw level 4 and heard my song nicely remixed. I like the megadrive music direction better. I just wish it had better instruments like this version.

Wonder how many times that Dr/Scientist stared at the girl while sleeping.

music sounded way different on sega..sounds more like a symphony on this version .still a great game
Ahhhhh, the music is soooo good. Getting the soundtrack in a sec for sure, if they have one.
Don't worry about the graphics. At least it has 2P co-op like the arcade version.

Play Rayforce/LayerSection/Galactic Attack, the female piloting the ship dies in the end trying to save the planet.
@@Bloodreign1 I still consider this ending a massive middle finger anyway.
Esplêndido! Melhor versão de HELLFIRE.
A melhor para mim é a do arcade
Graphics are better on megadrive. Look on youtube the firist guns sattelitees and the grounds, the bosses etc..
Back grounds explosions lasers big explosions sound. Come on..!
0:54 - Char Aznable. Because of Shuichi Ikeda.
@9:25 he's fighting a google maps image!
Graphics don't matter. Gameplay does.
+ARX-2
Not sure about what you meant there but gameplay is better on Mega Drive.
maybe the hu cards was the pc engine only bad project idea (low capacity games)
Still some of the best games for the system are on HuCards
Imagine if 4KIDS dubbed it. The Intro has the Hero sleeping in Long-Sleeved Pajamas rather than sleeping in Nude and the name will be changed to Redfire.
it would just be called "Fire" if 4kids got its dirty hands on this game
Can we please *NOT?*
to my understanding 4kids dubs (or used to dub) tv series, not videogames.
how do you play this game on windows 8.1??
Someone Please Redub this Version of this Game
A good arranged version of the original Hellfire. Too bad the ending is a downer.
dude what
The music stinks compared to Genesis version
no way..this cd quality music sounds better. If you compared this to lightning force..then Id agree with you.
No way the Genesis version sounds like nails scratching my ear drums !
I absolutely do not agree with you at all.
I 100% agree. The Mega Drive version has way better music than this generic CD arranged work. It's like Zero Wing (another Toaplan shooter) all over again.
