I've watched this documentary, I'm so glad you reacted to it. Hannah is an epitome of what a REAL strong woman is, imagine some of these present day younger so called strong women surviving on that farm, or these Instagrammers, they wouldn't last five minutes.
There is a lot to be said for living an independent life like she did. She showed that she was totally self-reliant. Her life was what most people had in the past. Hard, but good in terms of exercise.
I think she wanted to live how she did - it looks tough, it must have been incredibly tough, but she was also clearly a very tough lady that wasn't afraid of LOTS of hard work. Looking at her life, she made a good long one and lived to 91 - only the last 2 years of her life in a care home, which I hope means she made it to 89 and was still able to look after herself in her 80s + I can barely look after myself at 50 + I've got water, electricity and home delivery easily. Totally different way of life, she's pretty inspirational. If she was my neighbour, I'd be checking in to make sure she was ok and have a cup of tea. My Gran's nearly 90 and still doing insane stuff, I'm 1 of maybe 17 grandchildren - she gets visitors every morning and between all of us during the day/evening too, there's plenty of us to make sure she's ok. I think she gets annoyed that we don't leave her alone. She broke her wrist early last year (better now), because she fell putting up new curtains - not because there was no one to do it, but because she wanted to do it herself + she's stubborn and wants to be independant. All of us ask if there's things need doing for her, but she doesn't want it - she wants to do it herself. Now, I got some health problem and yeah... people help, or want/try to, but it's not the same as doing it myself.
Hannah lived frugally in the early days, she maybe couldn't afford farm hands. It wasn't until she found notoriety through the first documentary that she got a bit of help..
Jay,i keep looking, i haven't seen Hannahhauxwell literally carry a cow...it's on a lead or leash.on another clip you did Hannah a dis service saying she looked older than 46,she was 46 in,1972/1973,that particular time you said she was meant to be 46,she was in fact 55/57.the cameras were covering her multiple times, part two would be welcomed just to finish the story off.no big deal..
Jay,there was a program in the uk called 7up in 1963,it was about a bunch of kids aged 7 from all walks of life,it was a kind of social experiment, give me the boy & I'll give you the man so to speak.
