Brilliant Paul. Glad you managed to find a company who can still take on a job like this, these old engine specialists are getting few and far between nowadays. Love the upgrade in power idea too - not too much, but enough to help no doubt. Cant wait to see the old girl running again and you back behind the wheel for some more videos.
I hope you get many more years of service from in now. Its a lovely example of a grey cab. Well worth the investment in the rebuild. You know what you have now rather than buying an unknown second hand machine which often come with plenty of their own problems.
What an excellent surprise paul to see the engine return completely rebuilt. Hopefully, the power upgrade will make a noticeable difference to the performance of the machine. I'm definitely looking forward to watching the next instalment on hearing the mighty perkins running again. Keep up the excellent work, pal 😊👍
Amazing. Looking forward to seeing the shovel powering into Whinstone or rubble with that extra power with this 21st century upgrade. Look into ZX1 Extralube, excellent stuff that is. It bonds to the surfaces of the engine like the bores & bearings saving wear and tear on the engine, turbo etc.
Paul, Claire, I love your antics working together but Claire's no doubt logged the misdemeanour for the next "talk". 😜😄 For wire protection/organisation I've had good luck using self amalgamating rubber tape. It saves getting scratches from cut zipties. Have a good'un.👍🏻
Great video. may I suggest that you oil the turbo before starting the engine as even the short time before oil is delivered can cause damage to the turbo, I believe that you can do this through the oil delivery pipe.
👍vid I wish my black cab had that phaser engine in it can't wait to hear your thoughts on the extra HP although my Perkins 4236 is underpowered it is great on fuel and has been very reliable Paul
I don't see the need for more power, or even a turbo, on a 3CX. The hydraulic pump is fast enough, even at 1200 rpm. Any faster and you will be slinging a full ditching bucket much too fast. Nice to know what caused the smoke problems in the first place. Do any of your pivot points require line boring, I think you have the old type slew hydraulics..

Well done. Almost there to see the old girl working again. That engine got a really nice rebuild.
