1988 JCB 3CX SiteMaster Plus (Project 7) 👌👍

It is a nice grey cab model, not many good ones left now. If you start with a good peice of equipment in the first place, operate it correctly, service it when you should and use good replacement parts/oils, I would expect a good long trouble free service life, unless you're not so lucky and end up with something that has been made at the end of shift change 😄😆

Sounds like the manifold is cracked

The exhaust elbow had a crack in it, but I dont think that was the only problem

This and most full size backhoe loaders are 8 ton and will use the same size buckets as an 8 ton excavator. 3CX use 45mm pins. 👍

Hi, My Project 7 has 67 grease fittings in total - 28 on the loader, 18 on the backhoe and 21 on the drivetrain including the axles, driveshafts and the 3 on the driveshaft for the hydraulic pump, which are the hardest to get to. Hope that helps 😎

haha, yeah - a lot of 'stuff' to move, really didnt know where to start on this one, the only damage from this was a piece of concrete that hit my parking brake and knocked the pads out and bent the caliper. Had to spend some time making it right and had to fit new brake pads. Apart from that, the job went well 👌

I know what you mean Nick, no punctures, but some concrete hit the parking brake caliper and knocked the pads out and bent it. All repaired now and new pads fitted. I am always very careful on this kind of job. 👍

Yes the leg is much better now thank you very much. I really didnt know where to start on this one, a lifetime of 'stuff' had to be cleared, but we did it! .. well the 3CX did it 🤣😆👌

Ey up, yeah we all good here at PSE head quarters thanks, can you really get 'stuck' with a 3CX ? that bit of the job was a soft s*t hole and couldnt get around it, I ended up digging the top foot - 18" off and you can see towards the end of the video me putting the garden back together. We got the right results in the end 😎

Now then Mick, bet the 814 was quite new at the time ? I like to do different jobs and often do, if I cant get the 3CX in, I use the 803, some operators can only do one kind of job 😆 I dont think we can have as much fun these days, or it just seems different, not sure about the new machines either 😤

Check the hydraulic pump or the hydraulic filter. I used a 1989 3cx grey cab. It had really bad steering and the wheels would pretty much not turn at idle. Someone came to look at it and took the hydraulic filter out and found out it was the original one from the factory. He also serviced the pump and it’s been fine since. So you might have the same problem make sure the hydraulic system is clean.

If youve checked or cleaned the filters, the steering filter in the tank too, then I would check the pressures on the pump, the small pump bolted to the engine under the alternator, also check the steering ram, make sure its not bend! Check the hydraulic hoses from the pump to the steering ram on the axle, are any kinked or been crushed?

Hi, The hydraulic filter has nothing to do with the power steering but will help the rest of the machine if you had a bad filter. The power steering system : small gear driven pump under the alternator is for the steering, it takes oil from the right hand tank, inside that tank is a washable/cleanable 'filter' on the pick up pipe for the steering, this could be your problem, you will need to drain the hydraulic tank, big nut on the bottom of the right hand tank, once drained remove the round inspection plate on the side, being careful not to snap the small bolts, clean the filter and any sludge in the bottom of the tank. Hopefully this will get your steering back to working as it should. Refill the tank with new 32 grade oil if the oil that comes out looks dirty or has bits in it. 130 liters.

@@PSExcavationsLLC I already cleaned right hand side small filter as well. But same problem happened. I think orbitol or power steering pump need to replaced.

Yes, I would be looking at the orbitol or the pump if you have done the small filter in the tank. 👍

Hi John, thank you for watching and the comment 👍 This is not a problem, I really dont mind people asking for advice, I cant always help, but in your case I can. The grey paint for the cabs of this age of JCB I find this works well: DAF (VI) Standard, Chassis Matt F7436 (7076 satin). If you go to a auto paint supplier, give them this code, they should be able to make it for you. Its a DAF trucks chassis paint, solvent based. This is a very good match to the grey. 👌👍

🤣🤣🤣 We cant all be perfect John. I had obviously knocked the lever when turning the seat around. A lot of good work was done here, around the walls and leaving without any damage and an invitation to go back and carry out more work. For you to pick out that minor mistake over everything else, and to leave that comment - you must be a very negative person! Good luck.

Hi, Only cylinder type cooler which is for the trans, no cooler for the hydraulic oil 👍

@@PSExcavationsLLC I got a 1989 project 7 JCB and its having problem with transmission oil.because of water mixing with transmission oil. Please give me a opinion.

I would fit a new cylinder type oil cooler, when the cooler starts to fail, coolant and trans oil will mix as the cooler leaks. You may have to flush the coolant system if oil has mixed with the coolant. You may have to flush the transmission too!

Thanks Nick, It has to be correct! or better. Done in a way that could have been made by JCB that way in 1988. The smooth ride is working a treat and has proven to be one of the best retro fitted accesories yet! 👌👌 Would it be worth keeping a set of door glass in stock, should you ever break one, or could you get the door glass easy enough from your local plant glass company or maybe the likes of Vicary?

The bottoms always rot on this series of 3CX, lack of drain holes maybe - I like your idea of getting some Waxoyl inside the frames to help prevent further rotting in the future ! 👌🤙
