Hello everyone my name is Sammy this is my second account. Portland Maine is a very nice little town with amazing places to be like restaurant, bakery’s, beaches, forest, and all sorts of stuff. Portland Maine transportation is just buses not subways or anything like that. If you came to portland Maine for school wise there’s USM. If your here for high school there’s three different schools Casco, Deering , portland I am currently at portland and it’s amazing their. Portland Maine has the finest lobster places ever. And we have amazing bars and sea food restaurants. Portland Maine downtown has a harbor for cruises and all sorts of boats as well. Portland Maine is overall a calm place not to loud not to quiet. In portland there are two hospitals Mercy and Maine med and I’m probably guessing maybe more. If you liked what I said please like I appreciate thank you
My thumbs don't know where to start.... That Stretch of Victorian Homes... Breathtaking!! Simply an amazing video, thank you! From the Midwest! I'm an avid cyclist and man oh man would I LOVE to take a stroll through this place!
That was BC (before Covid). The Old Port was still open to traffic - they closed off some of the streets to make it user friendly for outdoor dining and pedestrians. Growing up my friend and I called that first stretch the Congo run. 😄 (Congress Street) Cool that you got the iconic B&M Baked Beans stack in there. Last I knew they were about to tear it down.
Never even been to Maine, but I like how Portland is dense, but without huge skyscrapers. It feels more historical and quaint. Is it a big city with a small town feel, or a small town with a big city feel? IDK, but I appreciate density and walkability....something almost entirely lost in the Southeast region where I have mainly spent my life (Texas and Florida).
100% correct assessment of Portland. Back in the 70s and 80s, Portland was "sleepy" and multiple areas (e.g. Old Port, etc.) were simply devoid of life and not developed in a vibrant, useful way. But, civic leaders realized the city was a gem waiting to be polished, and over the last 25+/- years, a lot of development has gone into those previously unused areas. Now it has a LOT of ethnic restaurants (great seafood restaurants & shops are a given), Casco Bay has a lot of islands dotting the harbor, and makes for a scenic day cruise. Tourists have discovered Portland, but because the city is only so big, it hasn't become overrun with tourists, thankfully. Just a nice mix of everything. And at less than 70,000 residents, Portland definitely doesn't have that overwhelming, stressful feel of much bigger cities, but it has every amenity and recreational pursuit imaginable to keep you busy and entertained...if you so choose. Lots of history, old Yankee architectural buildings, and, yes, Portland is a VERY walkable city.
First, Texas is the beginning of the west culturally, linguistically, and legally. Secondly, we who used to love Portland prefer it when it was in the last 2 bust cycles. Natives have been forced out to accommodate the hipsters that are rapidly making coastal Maine a revolting hodgepodge of gastropubs, boutiques, and sanctuary city.
Very nice little town, I love how u guys are so courteous when it comes to parking lol. Where I'm from in Queens, NY we are up each other asses lol!! I'm gonna visit this place soon :-)
@Alexander Molina lol!! Damn guy u writing a book on Portland lol!! I visited was ok, small and boring no offense. Decent food really nice light houses but was bored out of my mind in 3 days lol! God bless man
I grew up in this town. Almost exactly where this video ends is where I almost killed a drunk lying in the right hand lane on this bridge on New Years Eve in 1980. My four story apartment building is on the left, the B&M bean factory is on the right. I was 21 years old. A very drunk person had placed himself across the lane and was passed out. I nearly ran him over. I pulled over to see if he was OK, but the car behind me got to him first. They put him in their car and proceeded to the Washington Ave traffic light, where they pushed him out of the car and said he had shit himself. That was the day my life almost changed for the worst in an instant.
You're the first real Portlander on these comments. India St., Oxford St, Pickle Park, the list is long. I preferred it that way before the snobs arrived.
I live in portland and go to school there and it’s pretty nice here right now we have a bit of snow and kinda cold but it’s amazing and the transportation here is just buses or if you wanna go somewhere up north I’m pretty sure there’s trains.
I'm a 51 year old lifelong New Yorker and I could see moving here in a few years. I have to live somewhere where I can walk and am ready for an urban downsize from Manhattan.
I lived in Portland for 31 years until I moved three miles west to Westbrook almost 4 years ago. I just clicked on this video and am about to watch...., I bet you I see some people I know. LoL Start at 6:10, the tall grey granite building on the left used to be the original courthouse. Prohibition began in Portland, Maine, and there were riots, fires, the city father's hid all the booze from town In the courthouse, it was set on fire and people died.
Really? In watching this video, I can see that the poverty is almost entirely gone. You must be young. Portland used to be a gritty, hobo filled town. But I'll take that over cali hipsters & massholes anyday...
@@carmenfreni694 , yep. I know the entire history of pickle park. Haven't been back in 11 years. I've sold all but 1 of my Maine properties. I still have family in Maine using the 400 year old spelling of my mom's name.
@@carmenfreni694 , 711? What happened to Big Apple? Maine property is cheap during the bust years. In the late 80s& early 90s, you could buy at 10-15% of appraised value. The " camps" are always cheap.
Being from Portland, it's a great city for those looking for something a little less high key. It's filled with fairly friendly people and lots to do! If you are a conservative, however, this city is very liberal. Keep that in mind. Housing is fairly expensive, but if you can pay it, I recommend this amazing city

Where are all the pedestrians? Doesn't anybody walk in Portland?
My best guess is most everyone is at the mall in South Portland. Portland proper is pretty dead except for the Old Port.

Love my small city! Move Crystal!
I heard that Portland is very, very expensive. Is that true? I don't even want to know how much a one bedroom apartment goes for.
I will work there since July, hope it’s nice. Hope people are kind, and loyal.
