Hello my friends!
The garden is thriving right now & I'm getting a lot of delicious home grown cucumbers. Making pickles is my favorite way to preserve my garden cucumbers. But let's face it...sometimes, we need quick & easy don't we??
Well, you're in luck! This easy way of making homemade garlic dill pickles WITHOUT canning is so simple and quick, you're going to love it. Just a few simple ingredients, and you're on your way to instant pickles that taste WAY better than grocery store pickles :)
Here's what you'll need:
1) 4-6 cucumbers
2) 1 TBS salt
3) 1 TBS mustard seeds
4) 1/2 tsp peppercorns
5) 1 bay leaf
6) 1 cup of regular white vinegar
7) 2 garlic cloves
8) 3 fresh dill sprigs OR 1 TBS dried dill
8) A little fresh cool water
9) 1 clean quart size mason jar with lid
Here's how to make it:
1. Rinse & slice your cucumbers in spears or hamburger slices.
2. Pack your jar with all of your ingredients, then add as many cucumbers as you can fit.
3. Pour vinegar over top.
4. Top off with fresh, cool water.
5. Add your lid & give a good shake.
Put your pickles directly into the fridge where they will keep for 3-4 months. The longer they're in there, the more spicy they will become as the garlic intensifies. So if you don't like them to be too tangy & spicy, be sure to eat them within 3-4 months.
You can enjoy these pickles right away, but I find they're best if allowed to set in the fridge for at least 2-3 hours to marinate in the spices/herbs.

Thank you so much for this recipe! Its our go to for pickles. God Bless ❤
Thanks for the video. I made a batch tonight, similar recipe
I like to add in some habaneros to mine to give them a little spiciness I started with jalapeños but they just weren't hot enough but the kids could still enjoy them and I make the habanero combination for myself
Oh that sounds good! I bet my husband would like that recipe! :) Prob too spicy for me haha...I'm a baby! Thanks for joining me in this video!
I’ve been doing this for about three years now. We have a local farmers market. I get small carrots, red onions, and about everything else I grow. It makes a colorful jar of pickles.
@danaprice6719 yeah we add in a bunch of different things from the garden as well like everything you said but also asparagus and a few others
Hi i do pickles as well for a year. All cucumbers are from my garden. And I am so proud because people already order my pickles.

I will definitely try this recipe for some of my pickles this summer. I usually use the blue ribbon dill picked recipe(we love them). I just discovered your channel and am loving your videos. Keep up the good work!

Keeping this video in my saved ones so i will be able to watch it as i make pickles my grandaughters eat jars after jars of pickles when they come stay lol Thank You for the recipe Tina,
You’re welcome Kathy! Super easy recipe and delicious! Great way to put up some cucumbers!👏
Thank you, just finished making them. Can't wait to eat them.
Loved that ending. Hahaha
Haha yeah Garrett! I hope you like them. Thanks so much for watching! 😊
Just a heads up for anyone making them, I would definitely use the dill on the stems. I used dried dill and while they do taste great the dill floats so you ca t really see in the jar great and you have to plunge the pickle a couple times to rinse the dill off. Not a big deal but would be easier with them on the stem.
I agree & I think it’s prettier with the dill on the stems. 😉
@@HomeFreeAlaska that's definitely true. The pickles are already great after just a few hours. Thanks for posting this.
makes better brine mix if you add the dill spice to 1:3 water to vinegar, and then stuff real dill stems/flower into the jar when you put the cukes.
Salt dissolves… haha great video. We do our pickles the same way
RIGHT??? I was like what in the world is the word I'm looking for?! I just ate one of these pickles, they're truly the best. SO crunchy!
I don't feel so bad having a senior moment at 69 yrs old. HAHAHAHA. Great recipe. Thanks.
Good video. Thank you, I will do this today.
Nice! Question: Can regular cucumbers be used for this recipe? Picked when they are appropriate size of course. Great video always learn something new to me gal thanks
Hey Bret! Absolutely! You can use regular cucumbers for pickles! I’ve done this before as every year I always seem to plan WAY more cucumber plants than we need haha! Thanks for your kind comment! Good luck with your pickles. They’re delicious, nice & crunchy! 😊
Just the video I needed today. Have you tried this with jalapenos? I have so many a peppers out in the garden and on the counter......Thanks!
Hey Sharon! How are you? I have not tried this with jalapeños but that actually sounds amazing and like you, we always have TONS of jalapeños in the garden lol! We'll have to give it a shot. I usually pickle my jalepenos and water bath can them. Hope you're enjoying your summer season so far :)
Great informative video Miss :) Question: Lets say I made a quart container worth of pickles, once I finish them like in 3 weeks Do I have to make another Jar or can I use the same liquid/brine left over?
Hi Juan! I have people ask me this all the time, same question with my pickled egg video. I think it’s personal preference to be honest. For me, I prefer not to reuse the brine just for the gross factor that I get lol! I have kids and with everyone sticking there hands in and out of that jar, etc., I just prefer to make a new batch of brine with each group of pickles. Plus that way the garlic/herbs and all the spices are fresh & new. That way your brine will be nice & potent for the new batch. 😊
I enjoyed your video as we just started doing homemade pickles. I love the color of the canned pickles. Is it the same ingredients as the refrigerator pickles and then boiling the jars?
You can absolutely use the same ingredients! And yes just water bath can them. No need to pressure can. 😊
Home Free Alaska We made pickles using your recipe and did a water bath. Excellent, thank you.
Salad cucumbers are the best for pickling.
They both work great!☺️
@@HomeFreeAlaska I should have said for me or my opinion. Instead, that kind of sounded or read like a terd.
@@kenniegarner3848 lol! It’s all good friend!☺️
Saving this. Do they taste as good as water bath canned ones?
Even better, more crisp!
Just found your recipe for ice box pickles. What if you heat up the vinegar? Will it seal the lid?
Hi Judy! It most likely will seal from the heat, but I would encourage you to water bath can them properly just to be sure. If not sealed correctly they won’t be shelf stable & could introduce harmful bacteria that wouldn’t be good for consumption.
Can you use carrots instead of pickles? Your pickles look yummy!
I don’t know, never tried it but I can’t see why not!😋
A friend of mine does this with carrots (and adds jalapenos). Delicious.
They dont get green with mold in the fridge?? Mine does after a few weeks.
No way!😊 Never had them get moldy & Ive kept mine for months in the fridge.
I don't know how long pickles last in the fridge, because mine are always gone in a few days. lol
Haha! Ours too!❤️❤️
You can get it any day
Totally inappropriate Darius. SMH.
thanks for not having flys in your kitchen
We do sometimes. Kind of hard to never have flies on a homestead.😊
Do you have a sister who is single?
🤣🤍
