As a young girl I would help my mom can summer fruits and veggies up. Now that I'm much older and want to start my own garden and preserve my stuff, I have forgotten how to do stuff. Its nice to see it all again to jog that old memory of mine. Don't feel silly or not think it's not important because there are people who have never seen it done or its been a super long time since they have done it and need a refresher course. I have been watching you off and on now for a year now. I love your calming ,soothing words of wisdom. I get so excited to see a video. My Benjamin (9) will often sit with me to watch your video. Have you had alot of rain. If not, you may be over watering. If you can catch them the day they split you can pull them & wash them. Fry up some green tomatoes. But definitely pull them off. Make sure you have good drainage around the plants. You can add some more silk & mix some vermiculite with it or perlite. Hope this has helped!

I'm not sure there is any vegetable, or fruit, that cannot be pickled. Watermelon rinds make amazing pickles. If you have bad flashbacks to those awful neon red pickled beets from school you should give pickling your own a try. I've been adding to a huge jar of fridge pickled peppers for a couple of years and have never had an issue with it getting funky. I just add more peppers when I have them and top off the liquid if I need to. I'm sometimes embarrassed to admit that to people, because it sounds pretty gross, but whatever. As long as you don't stick dirty stuff into the jar, then I think the chances of nastiness happening is pretty slim between the vinegar and refrigeration.

Pickled turnips are a staple in my fridge. I throw in some pieces of beet to give it a fantastic magenta color that's just fun on the plate. They taste really good with hummus, gyros (a great way to use surplus cukes), lamb meatballs, just about anything Mediterranean. And it's so simple to throw together. The hardest part is waiting the 5 days for it to be ready. They are definitely better served cold, so on day 5 before serving, stick them in the fridge. No canning processing required, but I don't think it's quite the same as a "quick pickle" or refrigerator pickles.

I am so grateful for this. I agree with Diane that easy is just fine. I just made this recipe with veggies out of MY garden (yay) and some other items I had from the store in excess. I just made them yesterday but so far I absolutely love them. thank you so much!!!

As silly easy as this recipe may seems I’m so grateful you made it! This is the first pickle I’m trying because I don’t have the equipment I need to hot water bath my pickles but I still really need to do something with my harvest so far. So this is officially my first pickling experience for my first garden! Thank you!

Just picked some beets and a surprise radish last night and didn't know what to do with them so I'm very grateful for the timing of this video. I don't comment often but I regularly watch your show (I also have a "got it when I turned 18 tramp stamp"). Love all that you do. Keep up the great work. Kitchen and all the gardens look amazing.

I am SO GLAD you made this video even though it felt a little silky to you. I learn best when I watch someone else do something, listen to their explanation, & take notes. I am so excited to try this & the veggies you did yesterday! 😁👏🏻💗

Your channel inspired me to talk to my 94 year old grandfather about what's food they grew and ate on their farm outside of Witchita Falls, Texas. He said his mom didn't really can anything. The only thing she would can was peaches for pies. And he said she didnt really can them with a vaccum. He also said that they ate a lot of rye bread and what my mom and I think was homemade yogurt. They didn't grown grains or potatoes for consumption, but would grow all of their own vegetables. My great great great grandfather owned a grocery store and occassionally would get in oranges and give one to my grandfather, which was his favorite. It's crazy knowing her grew up without electricity or running water.

Thank you! Just what I was looking for. I learn so easily from you. This is my first year with a garden and I am growing cucumbers, zucchini, beans, eggplant, tomatoes, watermelon, strawberries and several types of zinnias and dahlias. Boy is it a lot of work! I am handicapped due to a nerve injury in my leg, so it has been a challenge but also has given me a focus and something to take care of and learn about which was a welcome distraction to pain.Thank you Jess, bless you

I love your channel and you are so awesome! I've learned so many things from you. I sat down with my 3 year old niece & explained to her how food grows in a garden & that pickles come from cucumbers. She was in awe. I plan to show her videos of your garden as an example because my garden is very little right now
