One of my groups has lost equipment to being arrested and gray ooze's. Its pretty good because it gives them something to spend money on and it makes some great moments when they forget their statistics/attributes/ac has changed.
I always was interested in adding, but I call survival systems. Something like upkeep for equipment or needing to get new equipment over time. However, during my time of playing fifth edition, there are so many other systems going on especially on the player character sheets it just bogged down the game. Now that I play less convoluted systems I have a much easier time adding systems to game. Games like shadow dark that really lives off of survival. D&D is about doing heavy damage and casting cool spells, not about surviving the wilderness and having to stop at a town to buy a common sword. Meanwhile, shadow dark characters are always making sure they have a back up weapon because it’s not uncommon to lose the sword and when you’re in a dark dungeon, sometimes you can’t find it.
