This video was a lifesaver. Was having so many problems transferring WhatsApp to new phone but after seeing your video I finally realised what the solution was. I hadn’t realised my old phone would get a verification code with a SIM. And I was getting complete confused because the new phone kept saying back up not found despite the backup showing on Drive. WhatsApp tech support were no help. Wouldn’t even let me send a direct message. Can’t thank you enough for this lifesaver demonstration. God bless.

No backups showing up on the new phone. Chat transfer also cancels with an error everytime after a couple of minutes. Frustrating.

its very important to say that you must complete the backup of the old phone before attempting to initiate whatsapp on the new phone. otherwise the backup stops and the new phone only gets part of the old phone and then you start a ping pong between the two trying to start over. a real mess!

For those who can't find the option to restore chat after they have already logged in, log back into the old phone, delete whatsapp on the new phone, install it again on the new phone and try logging in on the new phone, but this time around make sure to press 'restore' while setting it up because whatsapp might not let you restore it once you have set it up.

So just to confirm...I take the sim out of my new phone that has WhatsApp installed (but without my previous history) and Uninstall WhatsApp.
I put the sim back into my original phone and launch WhatsApp (which previously was telling me that I'd logged out.
I perform the back up sequence as described.
I then take my sim out of the old phone and put it back into the new phone and install/ launch WhatsApp.
I then should be prompted to restore from backup during set up.
A code will be sent to my old phone that no longer has the sim.
Do I have this right?

Note: Before backing up all my media things in whatsapp including the chat, I log in the same email I used to back up my media in whatsapp previously in my new phone. I also don't remove the sim card to my new phone when i want to back up my media, but it is still working.

Great video, though I wasn't sure if the phones had to be switched off to swap SIM card. I switched them off and had no problems.
I did have a problem at the backup stage because I had the Frequency set to Never.
It took me a while to realise that I had to go into the Frequency dropdown to select "Only when I press backup".

Only issue I have is at 4:48, where is the restore button ?, it seems it automatically goes into restore if your battery is full, so you have no option to say no, also what is the min battery level for this to be able to work. Second thoughts from 4:48 i'm totally confused.

Hello I have followed all your great and clear instructions. BUT when I go to my new phone it only wants to UPLOAD.. I have tried multiple times but can't get it to start any "download process" when clicking on BACKUP. I do have a google account linked and did back up from my old phone. Thank you

Does the "Back up using cellular" switch have to be on, or is it enough to just have the SIM card in its slot but then do the backup from the old phone using wifi?
I cannot manage to restore my backup. When I open WhatsApp on my new phone, it doesn't detect any backup on any of my accounts, when I can clearly see on my old phone that the backup is correctly uploaded to that account. I have also tried another method using a qr code, but it never shows up. Any suggestions?

Well, after saying in your video any questions or comments post below, and I came to do so, I see there are plenty of questions and comments and you haven't responded to any, so no point leaving a question! Here's my comment anyway! I'll ask somewhere else.
Does it literally transfer all messages? Even those from years back? What about photos, videos, links and documents are they all transferred?

If you don't want to backip to Google I was able to backup to the SD drive on 6 phone and restore it after copying to a folder on my nee phone.

.....but what if you dont have the old phone anymore because youre sending it off as part of the insurance claim, and when they collect old phone thats when theyre giving new phone. Surely if ive backed up the chats to my google or samsung account, SURELY they should just let me download the old chats?

GDrive backup is an emergency option. Let's say your phone is damaged or stolen, this transfer chat features not worked.

I am going from a Samsung S10e to Samsung S23. When I register the new Whatsapp on my S23 it does not find any backup to restore. I've made sure it's backed up on google drive on my old phone many times. on the new phone it does show the backup found when going to the chat backup, but i can't restore it to the new phone.
OK, fix was to uninstall and re-nstall Whatsapp on my new phone. It found the backup this time and i was able to restore it.

I thought that wouldn't be necessary my SIM card, just a confirmation code on my old phone (like Telegram does). I don't have access to my old sim card because I'm abroad and didn't have plans to stay to. So, didn't ask for a roaming plan (a local plan it's cheaper) and, my provider in my home country says that I need to be in person at the store to contract a roaming service. No exceptions. :(

If Whatsapp is backed up on multiple Google Drive accounts - e.g. Whatsapp backup existing on Google drive account 1. Then you suspect something is corrupt in Whatsapp and or it's not completing backup. So you decide to do backup to another account, say Google drive 2. Then you get a new phone and ditch the old phone. After setting up the new phone with the regular Gmail account 1, how will Whatsapp at time of set up on new phone know or let you choose Google account 2 to restore Whatsapp backup from?
The reason for doing above is: if the suspect Whatsapp backup on Google drive account 2 is corrupt or Whatsapp data is corrupt then at least there is another backup few days old that is sitting in Google drive account 1 to fall back on.
And the reason for doing above is: there is currently no option to do and keep multiple Whatsapp backups in Google Drive.

it won't work if you have large data , it disconnect in the middle of transfer, and then nightmare begins whatsapp keep pospone the time +1h each time request ativation. never do this
