oh no... no chat in youtube videos... I'm interested in gameplay, I don't care about the writing. the chat will obstruct the screen, possibly hide something important in it. no chat, please.
Yeah, I've never particularly liked it as an overlay, which is why I've been experimenting with optional methods like using subtitles. Haven't had any luck with that yet, so thought I'd upload the chat as a separate thing for those who wanted it 🙂
The flow meter is useful for determining what items are connected to the grid and which are not. The wiring tool highlights wiring, but not deployables. The meter can be useful when your spaghetti system gets diverse.
The Splitsie has seen to many action movies where they jump off cliffs or buildings and land on things like moving trains or the other side… Silly Splitsie! 😂😂😂😂😂
Splitsie. For the question on burning corpses. The answer is Yes & No. You can set any corpse on fire while harvesting with the obsidian tools. The effect is a chance to obtain cooked meat. Otherwise it has no other effect.
It's super expensive to do, but the palisade walls snap on top of stone foundations. Also makes for nicely level walls all around. Might be able/cheaper to do the dirt foundation for those, but I've not tried that just yet. (Probably requires a lot of digging with a shovel to get the dirt for that foundation...)
3:29:00ish: The real limitation of graphical interfaces as a whole (not just specific ones like whatever chat was saying, I have no idea) is that you have to display every option. _Every single_ option. Including combinations of things to be used together, otherwise it'll inevitably end up needing to do A and B and C together. Even the options (and combinations) which are unlikely to be used, you still have to have them tucked away somewhere. At the same time, you need the workflow to be both relatively intuitive (so it's easy to learn) and efficient (because odds are someone will have to do the thing many times and doesn't want to do 100 clicks each time) I'm thankful I do most of my coding server-side so I rarely have to deal with writing any of that. 😄
I genuinely can't hear a lot of these sounds most of the time, it's sometimes helped if I crank the volume on my headset up, but then the storms are annoyingly loud. I suspect it's mostly due to having open backed headphones because I hate trying to control the volume of my voice when talking with closed backed ones
For me, the advantages of CLIs over GUIs have to do not with control, but speed _when_ you have the expertise with the details of the item you're trying to use. That speed is definitely not available when you don't recall the flags and format for providing direction, but can be there _if_ it's some thing you use often enough to have the options available to working memory.
Yeah, the big reason I prefer a GUI is that I so rarely use CLI that it's always an uphill battle, plus when I do use one, it's often not one I've used before :P
Glad it was handy. Not sure I'll always get it done in a timely fashion, but I'm going to give it a try for a little while and see how much it gets used 🙂
About Windows vs Linux ease of use, a research was made on older people that never used a computer before (so they are not used to Windows like most of us are) and it concluded that Linux is much easier to use than Windows (Elders took less time to learn it and had overall better experience). The only reason why people think Linux is harder is because they already have experience with Windows, so they are comparing learning Linux from scratch to using already learned skills with Windows.
Just a bit of a suggestion, but could you use stone columns to mark cave entrances / creek crossings etc? Just to make them easier to spot from a distance.
For me chat is not really necessary. Not to say I'm against it (through overlay or something), though I've come to appreciate your minimalistic approach. Usually I can figure out what it's about through context :) Just FYI
Yeah, I prefer the uncluttered approach, but it's always good to reassess these things from time to time to see if there's an alternative I've missed :)
I still bring at least a small 1x2 or 2x2 stone building into a new biome, if only to have a bedroll and fireplace closer to wherever I might die... It usually expands into a functional base station for that region with many of the appropriate crafting benches. Though I tend to skip using the mounts for travel, and don't want to run home encumbered.
I usually did that in multiplayer, and will likely do so when I start travelling even further, but would prefer to bring something concrete so it can stay there and not take any damage over time 🙂
Still almost 2 hours left to play in the video; but do you know about the seed bag, farmers bag and doctor's/medical bags? Extra storage space for the frequently used/collected items in the game. Can carry multiple medical items and only use one backpack slot. Same for seeds in the other two.
Yeah, I also prefer it not being on screen most of the time, which is why I've never done it and am trying to find something optional for those who like to see the other side of the conversation when I forget to say what I'm responding to 😂
re: chat on youtube vods. Please don't. I want to see gameplay and not have the distracting chat roll. (also why I can't the face cams) I honestly don't care about what's in chat. If I really wanted it, then I'd just go watch the vod on twitch.

Even as subtitles, I'd be unable to read it on my phone, which is how I watch your vods.

Ah, that rings a bell from when Capac used one I think. Was sad I couldn't cook them all with the flamethrower

Just love how Splitsie ignores the buzzing in the cave and the horse making noises like it's being attacked

titanium is only in the caves going into the lava areas, and caves in the lava areas. i believe that is the only place you will find platinum too.

I do really like having the chat as a video to watch alongside since I can't always catch this live. Thanks!

Yeah I always assumed the same was hte case whenever I try to use anything apple have made, I find their layouts frequently baffling :P
Take a concrete furnace with you on ore hunts. You can take heaps more in ingot form. PS don't forget copper too for electrics 😅
The RBLF notes that the Splitsie has not connected the dots about the Superiority of Red Batteries. Maybe someday he will..,
😂😂😂😂😂

They added stone cairns for this sort of thing too.
Deep Ore Oxite now you aren’t running out of air, not sure how much you really need but seems like it is an occasionally useful deposit.

Happy game time 🎉
Don't forget to pet your horses, iirc they get an XP buff when you do
They do? I didn't know that, thanks :)
That's Kevin Bacon to you sir! Use it's full name if you please ;)
how did you make your own unique map?
Just took screenshots and then pasted them into photoshop to add extra tags to it :)

I know about them, but there's just so many things to do that I always seem to forget the little things 😂
I'm quite happy not seeing chat

Also, you need to look at armor mods. Pockets for most of them to expand capacity, and there's a helmet mod for reducing the odds of cave lung.

Dad jokes not given by a dad are a bit of a... faux pa.
