    I recommend starting the engine on warmer days.
    Helps keep seals lubricated and in good shape.
    Engines can burn oil or leak after sitting for long periods of time.
    Valve seal, and other can dry out

    Great video, thank you!
    Here are my notes:
    Oil Change
    Fill Fuel Tank with Fuel Stabilizer
    Disconnect Negative Battery Terminal
    Max Rated Air Pressure for your Tires
    Leave Parking Break off
    Open a Moisture-Eater/ Desiccant Container - 1-2 are recommended
    Moth balls in the engine bay - something to keep critters from soy based wires
    Stuff a rag under each arm of the windshield wiper - keep it suspended
    Keep key handy if it needs to be moved in an emergency
    Car Covers are critical - Wash & wax car before covering

    I also put MaxxCatch sticky pads under the engine and in the trunk, on top of the engine and in the car. Yeah, overkill, but I had a couple of mice get into my 2004 Vette AFTER I removed the pads to take it out for a run and then forgot to put them back again. Excellent vid with tips and straight up honesty! Thanks, Cooley!

    Finally, glad to see your video... I almost deleted the RUclips app thinking why bother since there is nothing good to watch. Just In Time!
    By the way, instead of an old rag, I use two toy tennis balls (softer than regular tennis balls) to prop-up the wipers by their wiper arms...in case I forget to take them off before turned on the wipers, the tennis balls will just roll off with the wipers wipe on...

    • @TheChupacabra
      @TheChupacabra Год назад

      I like this idea. I’m in a humid area and I think the small amount of felt on a tennis balls is better to have under there than a rag that could accumulate moisture

    I have a question regarding Auto Stop/start. Has there been any data showing the relationship between fuel savings vs loss of starter service life? I wonder if the cost of replacing a starter motor sooner compares with the savings on fuel consumption. Are modern starter motors robust enough to handle so many starts? Thank you. I watch every episode of your informative and entertaining show.

  • @BCJDM

    i have a couple questions. Should i use a fuel stabilizer on my car even if i only plan to run it and drive once a week during winter? And i should still leave the parking brake on since my cart is manual?

    • @chrisfreemesser5707
      @chrisfreemesser5707 4 года назад +2

      I leave my parking brake on and haven't had any ill-effects but if it concerns you, you could simply use wheel chocks to prevent the car from rolling.
      Also consider using non-ethanol fuel (if you can find it) when storing your car...lasts a lot longer than the 10% ethanol fuel. Stabilizer is always good for any fuel that won't get used up within 2 months or so.

    • @jeffreymcneary3055

      portable air tank, retractable hose, and quick connect fitting

    • @jeffreymcneary3055
      @jeffreymcneary3055 4 года назад

      also, if the maximum recommended pressure is say 44 PSI, you can go to the gas station, get it to 44, then drive to the storage location. its ok to drive on 44, especially since you'll only be doing it briefly. so you don't actually need any of this equipment.

    Most things I agree. However to save trouble start the car twice a week if possible in the winter, and drive it around for 15 minutes, and that's even at slow speeds. Use a damp cloth that's a microfiber towel to wipe around before replacing car cover. MAKE SURE WHEN PLACING CAR COVER WHEN P!ARKED OUTDOORS, TO LOOK OVER CAR TO BE SURE THERES NO BIRD POOP YOU ARE COVERING UP ACCIDENTALLY. Car should be fine after winter. If one is away all winter or weeks at a time ; have a friend start the car weekly at the bare minimum.
