    You are a genius. Forget anything about the picture frame, your skills and ideas for using a table saw are off the chart. I learned more about using a table saw than making a picture frame.

      Same. I just got a table saw and was looking for something to simple to build. Came here to learn about making a frame - mind blown at what all the table saw can do!

    Just when I think, "Great, another dull picture frame video," you really find a way to make it interesting. Cutting that entire profile on the table saw was impressive! Not to mention that wood-saving tip of pre-cutting that miter. You, sir, are my favorite woodworker.

      Eric Derby eric i am a professional cabinet maker and i don't have all the tools the youtube amateurs have lol. often its just as quick to use what you have. most of the basic tools we have can do so much more if you are creative. plus to be honest as a one man shop (i like it this way) its not financially feasible to have that much money sitting on shelves for occasional use.

    Probably one of your best videos today Matthias. I don't think I will ever buy another custom picture frame in my life after watching this. I tried out your cove cutting method and was impressive with how much control over the size of the cut you have by changing the angle of approach. also rounding over the teeth helps but truth be told its nothing you cant sand out if you just leave the blade stock.

    My father used to do that as a job, mostly using pre decorated and milled wood. And you did great, very close to what he did, plus added that twist with the reinforcements. He used to use just glue and nails. The way you did it will not show the nails, which is a cool extra, even though a bit more time consuming compared to nails.
    Nice tip for the next one. Try some thin cardboard (or very thick paper :D ) passepartout. It will add a very elegant touch to the entire thing.

    I am impressed, very impressed.
    You make things look so easy.
    I am curious why you did not use a mat.
    An important feature of mats is that they keep the photo from touching the glass.
    Changes in humidity can cause the photo to attach itself to the glass, in turn ruining the photo.
    It is also good to tape or glue a backing sheet on the frame to keep dust and more importantly small insects out of the frame. Both can also contribute to damaging the photo.
    Lastly, To prevent wrinkling of the photo or to get the wrinkles that are already in the photo out,
    it is not difficult to adhere it to a piece of foamboard (preferably acid free) which can be purchased
    with a sticky surface for just such use.
    To make this easier, you are the perfect guy to show how to build a roller press to make mounting
    the photo to the foamboard easier.
    Keep up the awesome work.
    I am as always anxiously awaiting your next video.

      Matthias Wandel I agree with Anon, you need a mat. You won't believe how many family photos both my parents and my husbands have put behind glass with no mat and years later, the photo stuck to the glass totally destroying the picture. You did such a wonderful job on the frame and the beautiful photo you took, why not preserve it by using a mat :)

    • @Bobany
      @Bobany 9 лет назад

      +Anon Ymousmie Hi I am curious as I'm learning, I don't have any photo frames myself but you mean this mat is to push the photo to the glass so that it has an even pressure all over, thus keeping the photo straight and not curved? Or how do you mean, sorry if I'm slow.

    • @anonymousmie2829
      @anonymousmie2829 9 лет назад +3

      +Bobany Hello,,,
      The mat is to keep the photo away from the glass so it does not stick to the glass when there is moisture inside the frame. to keep the photo flat, you glue it to a backing board or foamboard which will not let it wrinkle or distort which will allow it to touch the glass.

  • @somemovingpictures

    Matthais, A very nice frame built, yet again, with excellent and inventive technique. You should not, however, put wood directly behind the photo. The tannin and/or moisture contained in the wood panel can, over time, leech into the photo paper and discolor it. Use an acid free matte or mounting board that you can purchase from most any art supply store as a backing.
    Keep up the great work. Your videos are, to my mind, some of the best on RUclips.
