    Thank you Eileen for the video. I can somehow see practice and production very similar. In the video, practice involves feedback from tutor, and in production a student produces sth for the tutor to evaluate. Where are they similar and different? Thanks

      Hi Adam. The key difference is that with practice, the learner will be able to improve their work with feedback. It is a cyclical process within an environment designed by the teacher for that to happen. For production, because it is the final product of the learning process that the teacher sees, the learner has a different relation to it. Because they know it will be assessed, they take more care and articulate their understanding as well as they possibly can. That allows the teacher to really understand the extent of what has been learnt. This is similar perhaps to the distinction between formative and summative assessment - practice is formative, whereas production is summative. If a quiz or test is provided as a final assessment rather than an opportunity to practice, then it would become a production activity (maybe not a very good one, unless it enabled the learner to really demonstrate their learning). This is why it is also not necessary to add “assessment” as an additional element to the six learning types as is sometimes suggested. The six learning types identify the learning experiences, some of which become assessment opportunities. So it is already there.

    Hi. What is the difference between learning types and learning styles?

      Hi David - learning styles is a largely discredited theory that divides learners into visual learners or auditory learners etc. and teachers should teach them accordingly (e.g. using images with visual learners). However, there is no evidence that these styles exist or that this approach improves learning. By contrast, learning types do not refer to attributes of learners, but to the learning experiences that teachers design for all learners. I hope this helps.

      I hope when you are saying learning types is a process where "teachers design for all learners", you are not proposing a standard or universalized design suited to all learning.
