Welcome to another episode of Challenger Approaching! In this series, we create full newcomer designs for characters who might be invited to a future entry of Super Smash Bros, going deep into detail on their moves, stats, and everything a newcomer needs!
This time, our Challenger...has a reputation that precedes them. Fire Emblem has long been a point of contention among Smash fans, with accusations of the series getting undue attention, especially on the roster. And Alear's game of origin has been a point of contention among Fire Emblem fans, with Engage's drastic shift in tone and focus on gameplay over story and character writing turning off many who has just become interested in the series. To say there are very mixed opinions toward the idea of Alear joining the next Smash game...would be an understatement.
But does Alear's array of moves, skills, and other abilities secretly offer enough potential to win over their many skeptics? And could they diverge enough compared to Marth and the other Fire Emblem fighters in Smash? I think I've found a solution, and it give this character a style only they could truly pull off.

If this has taught me anything, it’s that you don’t judge a character by the series they’re from.
Let me guess, you stopped watching the second he complimented Alear!
@@marcoasturias8520 Opposite actually. I'm okay with Alear being in the next smash game, since standards have risen, thus they'll probably have a fun moveset. Plus, Fire Emblem's overrepresentation merely stems from Marth having 3 clones
@@Novum228Not only that, there’s 6 Down B Counters barring Robin and Byleth, they mostly use Swords, and yeah 3 of them are just Marth Derivatives.
@@Novum228 I hate to be that guy, but I think the term you’re looking for is “Echo Fighter” :/
@@GachaRival Marth has one echo fighter.
Roy is just the melee clone, while Chrom is a clone of a clone.
Lyn got upgraded from an assist to an assist.
That’s big shame, Lyn deserves better for being one of the best and most beloved characters in the series and the first Lord for many with FE7 being the first to be localized.
@@squallleonhart9387 That's why in my roster, she's playable. So the Astral Arrow is her special move and Astra is her final smash from Warriors.
@@JohnyTheWizKid I'd take her over Roy in a heartbeat as the Rushdown FE fighter
@@shanegiorgio4713 Yeah, and even though I liked him, Pyra just owns him now in fire elements. There's really no point in keeping him even if I make his animations different from Marth. Now I have to give Alear a different neutral special move. Got any ideas?
@@JohnyTheWizKid Maybe a sword beam projectile like the one used in Eirika's special from Engage, with Ephraim joining in as well when in the Engaged state for a stronger attack
One very minor thing I’d change is making Master Counter use the Killer Axe instead of the Master Lance. It’s Lief’s first engage weapon, putting it in line with all of the other specials, and means that Alear’s normals + the 4 specials use all 5 main Fire Emblem weapon types.
I bet you were quite relieved and happy to finally get Alear's moveset done after so long, Del.
If I had to pick the next character, it'd be either 2B or Takamaru.
This feels like a base game character but in the best way. Like it’s so realistic I can absolutely imagine them in the next game.
I feel like this is kind of assuming that people wont complain just cause the character doesnt use the sword "that much." It really doesnt matter if the specific sword attack animations are different than any other swordie in Smash cause people just see "The sword" and complain. Its why I like Sephi's, Aegis's, and Sora's kits in Smash cause they werent built around hiding the fact they use swords. I'd still like to see the next FE rep just be someone with a spear or an axe (not Byleth's multiple weapon schtick; just a side character who uses a spear), but I do wish more people would be comfortable with just making a moveset for a swordie and saying 'yeah they use a sword, heres all the cool stuff they do with it.'
That being said, I do like the idea of using characters who WERENT in Smash as references for the specials instead of just having Alear switch between Marth and Ike's movesets or something. Theres definitely some potential with that idea though I would still prefer a more basic "Marth" type character but they use a spear.
I think the main issue is that Intelligent Systems probably pushes for Smash to take only the protagonists of these games so as to not turn the 'FE rep for the next Smash' into a giant popularity contest. Unfortunately they also seem alergic to making protagonists without swords nowadays, save for Edelgard, Claude, and Dimitri, who were sidelined in favor of Byleth. Here's to hoping the next new FE gives us a non sword lord.
>People just see the sword and complain
Character renders are also impressionable too, take the 8 FEs for example, what do they all have in their renders? Swords of course, which doesn’t help, Banjo has the most faithful moveset in the entire roster, sorry Byleth has to pull other characters weapons out of their ass just to make them halfway interesting.
@@squallleonhart9387 I mean, they didn't HAVE to do that with Byleth. He's a skilled martial artist himself (fighting with hefty gauntlets instead of doing so bare-handed like Alear) and has a hidden talent for faith magic too.
I guess the choice to use the other lords' heroes relics stemmed from them being iconic and flashy weapons, but Byleth's unique whip-sword, brawling with gauntlets, and offensive faith spells would've made for a more fitting and "interesting" moveset IMO.
@@finaldusk1821 especially so if they made the green haired Byleth alts have the Enlightened One outfit
If the next smash gets rid of a lot of the Marth clones and keeps the more original fighters, then I think it would be seen very favorably.
Alear would definitely be fun to play in game.
Lucina needs a different moveset. I was disappointed how she's a clone of Marth when she clearly fights differently in her game.
@@JohnyTheWizKidI’ve not played any fire emblem besides three houses but the general consensus I’ve heard is that Lucina should’ve been a Roy clone…which is ironic because Roy in his game is apparently much more graceful than Smash would lead you to believe, am I correct?
@@jmaldonado790 I really don't know cuz' I've never played his game because it never made it to North America. I only know him in Melee. I thought Marth is the graceful one but I don't think it matters because they both fight the same way. Roy just uses fire element. But When Chrom got in, his moves now have a mixture of Roy and Ike. So when I compare how Lucina fights in her game and other spinoffs, why not just move Chrom's movesets to Lucina now? Cuz' that's exactly how she fights too; hell he did teach her those moves, didn't he? Also besides, Chrom is part of Robin's final smash. Why the hell is he in the game again? Just cuz' fans wanted him doesn't mean he should be in it. But now it helps to just give his special moves to his daughter, but she also needs a new animation of her melee attacks. So I looked at Legaxy XL or w/e its called and it shows how she's decloned. Or any hacked version of Smash 4 shows other ways too. But yeah, Chrom did not need to be in Smash so he ain't in my roster.
@@JohnyTheWizKid i dunno, since she did pretend to be Marth for quite a bit during the story of Awakening, i does seem fitting that she'd be a clone of Marth as none of the other FE lords that are in Smash would fit for her
Porky from the Mother series should be a patreon nominee, a villain of one of the original 12, and 2 different appearances to pull a moveset from.
If I’m to add more Villains I’d say Black Shadow, Samurai Goroh or Kamek. Would be cool to see more of the Original 12 get villains from their series. We already got Ridley for Samus and K. Rool for Donkey Kong.
@@squallleonhart9387 fair point, i mean the closest you'll get for villains when it comes to Pokémon and Star Fox in Smash's roster is Mewtwo and Wolf, and of the original 12 the only 2 with no "villainous" character in Mother and F-Zero. Plus Ultimate has 2 Metroid villains with Ridley and Dark Samus
i didn't count Yoshi as personally i lump him in with the Mario cast who has Bowser, Bowser Jr., Wario (yeah i count him too) and a Piranha Plant so he won't need one
Instead of "Emblems as cut characters," my own idea was to have Emblems _replace_ existing characters, so you can still have Lucina and Ike and Roy (for example) represented without bloating up the roster. If someone wants to play as Roy, they can just pick Alear and spend most of their time engaged with Roy to get the flame effects and hilt bonuses.
Your concept is more unique though and I like it
Happy to see you finally tackle an Alear moveset. I think between Alear, Byleth, and Robin, you get a much better idea of the series than 4 and a half clones of each other. I’m certainly in the camp of just reuse characters in the current smash roster that probably should get cut as their specials, but I’m certainly not against using the series lesser known lords to smash fans. I do think this particular version feels a lot like Joker with a fire emblem paint job, but that’s hard to avoid while including engages mechanics. Maybe including something akin to breaking could help mix it up, but disarming an opponent in smash for a few seconds might be a bit too strong.
I hope Alear gets a chance in the next smash, but I also think creating fire emblem’s version of pokken would be smart as devs could play around with more than just recent lords and use less common archetypes in the game. Characters like Hector, Ephraim, Micaiah, etc is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to possible fighters
As someone loves playing with all members of the Fire Emblem crew in Smash Ultimate I would gladly welcomed Alear with open arms!
It's finally here! I really love this take on Alear's moveset, and after playing Engage, they honestly became my favorite character in the entire series. I know their chances aren't great--and they'll be hated by Smash and Fire Emblem fans alike--but I'd be incredibly happy to see them in!
Good moveset, very different from mine, my idea was making Alear a stance character where they can switch Engage mode with a different emblem. But like you I wanted to use the emblems that aren't in smash.
My only real dissapointment was no Miciah or Eirika anywhere. They're the only ones absent so it sticks out a bit. Otherwise A+ moveset
I was already on board for Alear’s inclusion, but this made me even more excited. Well done!
P.S. if you’re taking requests for Patreon polls, could you add Magolor from the Kirby Series? After Bandana Dee, he’s likely the next Kirby choice.
personally, i think Bandana Dee is the only Kirby character that's needed and then the Kirby cast i feel would be complete in my eyes as you'd have the core 4
Galacta Knight from Kirby as a patreon moveset poll nominee
I've always wanted Alear in smash and the moveset you came up with looks so fun. It's unique and looks like it'll take time to get used to but will feel rewarding for mastering. You did amazing with this!
The only real disappointment here is that Alear in Smash wouldn't have THIS moveset and mobilty.
True Sakurai tends to screw up and miss the mark with designing movesets and he’s definitely not perfect, Wario, Ridley and Banjo to name a few, deserved better imo.
@@squallleonhart9387 How would you have the three fight better? I'm open for a better moveset for Banjo at least.
Banjo is still fun to play personally and since it fulfilled a dream I had since Melee I'll let it slide 😆
@@Novoxis As a DLC Banjo doesn’t really feel like one, he should’ve been Base Roster.
Banjo and Kazooie is literally closer to a Duck Hunt clone than a fun, overpowered DLC character, because while he certainly is not a Duck Hunt clone Banjo and Kazooie are the closest of that archetype and have the fandom, amount of wins in a tournament, and the buzz akin to Duck Hunt. Which is to say, it is forgotten and does not win many tournaments.
Alear for Smash 6 in Base Roster or DLC in the future please and i love Alear Smash Moveset concept.
Well, if I had to choose, my money would be on the only Yoshi “series” rep. F-Zero isn’t the only first-party series from the N64 days that hasn’t had a newcomer since then, you know?
I didn’t end up playing engage but this video definitely makes him seem like a good fighter option!
This seems really fun, I'd love to play with it if given the chance.
I feel like they should get rid of some more “basic” FE characters (not Marth) but add in Alear with them using some of their engage moves.
I honestly think the way you interpreted the Engage system worked out great!
Sure, it's similar to Joker or Cloud's abilities, but the odds of both those third-party fighters returning in a Smash 6 reboot alongside Alear are unfortunately slim. Besides, Alear's unique use of the mechanic (no way to charge it directly and optional special boosts in place of automatic ones) stands out well enough, and it's still completely unique from 70 or so of Smash's other fighters who don't have it at all.
Tbh, Fire Emblem characters are overhated. The past few Fire Emblem characters have been really creative and all feel fresh. Particularly Robin and Byleth. And adding Alear to the mix with this Moveset would definitely continue the trend of new and unique Fire Emblem characters. Overall, great video!
Also, I’m really hoping that either Kamek or Mallow wins the poll. They’re both great Mario characters, each with tons of Moveset potential, yet I rarely ever see them covered as potential newcomers for Smash.
>FE characters are overhated
Actually it’s like this
-> Byleth = Overhated
-> Corrin = Deserves the hate it gets
It all started with Corrin, people even say Elma from Xenoblade X should’ve been chosen instead since at the time there was only Shulk.
@@squallleonhart9387 As a fan of both series I would have preferred Elma but I don’t hate Corrin. They likely didn’t pick Elma due to the fact that she’d have a similar play style and feel to Bayonetta who would come right after. Having two of the same fighting style back to back in DLC releases likely wouldn’t have been a good idea. It’d be like releasing Kazuya right after Terry.
I sincerely only want Corrin to stay if only because he also is a Manakete and therefore is an interesting twist on a Fire Emblem swordfighter, though not as much as Robin or Byleth.
Those color alts look cool, it’d be awesome to see them in full. And the move set sounds very fun to play with
Sigurds even in the moveset? *Fire* concept!
Honestly given how people in some other circles were hyping them up I was honestly expecting there to be more martial arts and crazy feats than there actually was. They don't really feel as unique as they should be, they fall into quite a bit of tropes associated with both the existing FE characters and namco's general character design, especially with the engage meter functioning not too far off from cloud limit or arsene.
I 100% agree with the reason why FE in smash is the way it is being due to "everyone is here" though
Everyone is Here was a mistake looking back and when you think about how the roster was the main focus over other stuff in the game it loses its charm, also I don’t think *Ultimate* was the best name for Smash 5, Seems like “Super Smash Bros Reunion” would’ve been a better fitting name since “Everyone is Here” was the main selling point but I guess that wouldn’t have sounded as cool to some like Ultimate, but to be fair, It never felt “Ultimate” even Pre-DLC and Post DLC.
@@squallleonhart9387amen
Maybe change Leif's initial lance to the axe to cover the main melee weapons. (I totally get why the Master Lance would be used tho.)
i think Alear would make a great smash character and your moveset shows that im right
I adore your concept for Alear…
Not too complex but really unique and well thought out!
Makes huge FE fans like myself wishing they were actually playable💯
Can you do these characters next?:
Ashley from WarioWare.
Plusle and Minun from Pokemon.
Kamek from Super Mario and Yoshi.
Susie from Kirby.
Takamaru from The Mysterious Mursame Castle.
Tom Nook from Animal Crossing.
Porky from Earthbound / Mother.
First off, I want to confirm that I cringed just as much when he squeezed in the lyrics of the opening theme as the rest of you might’ve. I even called him out on it.
Anyway, I feel like Alear has a 50/50 shot based on a when the roster was decided relative to when Engage dropped. If the roster was picked in late 2022, they’re a pretty safe bet. But if the washer was locked in after Engage dropped, I have a feeling they may want to wait for the next FE protag as a DLC pick later considering that Engage kinda came & went. That said, I definitely recognize Alear’s moveset potential. It’s mostly how Engage ended up turning out & selling that’s giving me pause about declaring them guarantee like Ring Fit Trainee & Octoling.
If he is dlc, then let's pray we don't get another Byleth situation.
I really don't like Engage, but seeing all this makes me want to go back and give it another chance
Alternate names: Colgate-kun/chan or Amerito/Ameriko
You know what, you made a pretty good point about the Fire Emblem reps in Ultimate. I guess we'll see them get toned back next time.
Salmonid for Smash? There's so much to be done with a fish wielding cooking utensils.
I feel like Marth, Ike, and Robin are the only Smash Fire Emblem reps to truly stick around. Ike just needs his down b changed to something else (and thanks to Codename: S.T.E.A.M. and Fire Emblem Engage, there's definitely some more options on what it could be) and run faster and he'd be back.
Never get mad at any character until you try it.
Pah. Try telling the entire Smash community that.😒
@@erickmaverick3128 Ok I can do it but it will be hard... VERY HARD!
@@Daniel12pixelRbMc I’m guess you can say it’s Maddening.
Here we go, this one should be fun!

Delzethin was...Al ears when researching for this vid (#puns)
I had the same general idea about his Side and Up Specials. Though maybe I’d change the Neutral Special because I’d think Lyn could be her own fighter, and the Down Special into something more unique than a typical FE counter. Cool vid regardless!
My vision of Alear is Smash kinda just felt like how Pyra and Mythra work, with having the same normals with different stats and completely different specials. The way you switch Emblems is with down special and it works kinda like Shulk's Monado Arts, with the rings used for Alear surrounding the player model similarly. This concept feels more official than what I had in mind, but not sure how I feel about those alternate costumes...
This is really cool and fun! You mentioned though how you were afraid that it kind of came out as a mix of Joke and Cloud despite wanting to incorporate the Engage mechanic. I'm surprised you didn't borrow from Inkling and try a unique shift for Engage, like Shield + Special.
But that also might overcomplicate things...
Oh, man. Mallow or Kamek. I can't decide!
Shez from warriors three hopes would also have a pretty neat moveset, especially if they use the awakening mechanic
I think they’ve already done a video for Shez!
I love the brawler/swordfighter mix, leads to a cool combination of moves that we don’t really see elsewhere (I mean, mechanically Roy or Wolf already fills that niche of close-range swordie hybrid, but animation-wise it is fun to see Mario & Fox’s moves mixed with more Marth-like ones, and I do really like that dash attack).
The special moves… I mean, I can’t think of what else they can be, but it’s just kinda generic moves with a meter on em. And Byleth already covers the “copying other major characters from her game to use multiple weapon types” gimmick.
I guess there’s no way around it, you couldn’t really do Alear without summoning the spirits of iconic Fire Emblem characters, but it does make me sad that we can’t just have the more iconic Fire Emblem characters lol. Like wouldn’t it be so cool to represent a Priestess-class character like Celica to show that side of the magic system? Or a pegasus rider, or a full bow-using zoner, or a lance character who focuses entirely on horizontal attacks.
It’s not like Pokémon is entirely locked to the starters (though even when Sakurai does pick starters, he has the benefit of being able to pick which of the three has the most unique gameplay implications). As much as I do like Alear’s normals here, it would be a shame if we were stuck to “sword fighter with a slight twist” every Smash game…
i feel that Alear should be like the one in my game and auto dodge every single attack that isnt a final smash (avoid chance goes CRAZY. we love fire emblem engage)
And this has the effect of cpus stop fighting entirely
Copy/Pasting my own idea for an Alear moveset before watching the video, to see how it compares. Spoiler warning on the final smash!!!
Neutral Stance
Alear has their sword sheathed, and uses the standing position they take when equipped with martial arts scrolls
Normal Attacks
Theme: Martial arts, no swordplay here
Jab: A series of three quick punches
Forward: Spinning axe kick
Up: Uppercut
Side: Slide kick that moves Alear slightly forward
Dash: Flying kick
Grab+Throws
Theme: Still martial arts
Grab: Reach out with one hand
Pummel: Fast punches with their free hand
Forward: Outward kick
Back: Judo flip
Up: A simple upward fling
Down: Elbow drop
Smash Attacks
Theme: Big sword strikes, with the red-and-blue particle effect used on Alear’s crits in their personal classes
Forward: A strong downward slash, with a second upward slash you can perform by pressing the button again. Based on Alear’s crit animation.
Up: Overhead slash
Down: Spin attack
Aerial Attacks
Theme: A mix of martial arts and swordplay
Neutral: Two quick slashes covering both sides
Forward: Dropkick
Back: Elbow spike
Up: Backflip kick
Down: Downward stab/stall-n’-fall
Special Attacks
Theme: Engage attacks
Neutral: Lodestar Rush - Hold the button to charge up, and release to perform a fast flurry of stabs and slashes using Falchion. Comparable to Mythra’s Lightning Buster.
Side: Override - Alear charges ahead wielding the Ridersbane to run through anyone in their path. This attack goes much further when used on the ground, and when used in the air it doesn’t put Alear into freefall. This attack comes out fast, but has a hefty amount of end lag.
Up: Warp Ragnarok - Tele-explosion similar to Farore’s Wind.
Down: Dark Inferno - Wielding the creatively-named Camilla’s Axe, Alear leaps into the air and slams down, dealing heavy damage to anyone they crash into and hitting anyone in a radius around the impact point for a smaller amount of damage. Additionally, the aforementioned radius gets set on fire for a short time after the attack, dealing additional damage to any foes moving through that space. This attack has armor during the descent.
Final Smash
Engage+
Alear raises their hand and declares “Emblem Eternal!” to transform into their emblem form and draw their rank 20 bond sword Oligoludia. In this state, they have armor and take reduced damage, their mobility stats are drastically improved, and their attacks are replaced with massive, devastating sword strikes, with blue flame effects greatly extending the hitboxes. After a certain amount of time passes, Alear performs Dragon Blast, which we will interpret as a forward beam attack somewhere between Robin’s Thoron and Samus’ Zero Laser, and then reverts to their normal form. (AN: I consider this the least realistic part of the moveset, because Sakurai has developed an allergy to fun final smashes in recent years)
Taunts
Up: Alear draws their sword and performs their win pose from Engage, saying “Guided by the Emblems” or “I am the Divine Dragon.”
Side: Alear raises their hand and calls out “Engage!”, and a randomly-chosen Emblem spirit appears behind them. For the sake of avoiding confusion, the game will not draw an Emblem if their normal self is being played by an opponent.
Down: Alear holds out their hand, and a small bird lands on it briefly before flying away. It would be criminal if we didn’t acknowledge Alear’s habit of adopting random animals.
EDIT
Okay yeah your standards/throws/smashes/aerials are way cooler than mine. I was going off memory instead of studying Alear’s animations, so that’s to be expected.
I’ll clarify that in my moveset, the emblems don’t appear during Alear’s specials. I think having them pop up would make Alear’s silhouette pretty murky and hard to read, and would harm their individuality.
Making Alear’s emblem form a meter is neat and probably more relevant for high-level play, but I stand by making it a transformation final smash because I miss those dearly.
IT'S ALEAR
I've been waiting for this! I love Alear so much, and I'm really hoping she has some kind of chance at getting in Smash one way or another. I hate that people judge a character based only on the series they're from rather than actually looking at moveset potential. This video goes to show that Alear could be a very interesting and one-of-a-kind Smash fighter! Thank you so much Delzethin!
Amazing video, loved all the ideas especially the Engage mechanic. I've seen people say they could have the different Emblems function like Shulk's Monado, but this is much better. I really want Alear to be in the next Smash game! Day 1 main even. Heh.
Classic Mode Route: Divine One's Crusade (This Classic Mode has Alear take on fighters that evoke the various nations of Fire Emblem Engage)
Stage 1: Palutena (Ally: Marth) (Lumera and Lythos)
Stage 2: Zelda and Link (Ally: Marth) (Firene)
Stage 3: Bowser (Ally: Roy) (Brodia)
Stage 4: Bayonetta (Ally: Lucina) (Elusia)
Stage 5: Daisy (Ally: Ike) (Solm)
Stage 6: Female Alear (Ally: Corrin) (Past Alear)
Boss Stage: Ganondorf/Ganon (Sombron)
I can't see videos about Alear in Smash without remembering the video that called them the Pepsi People and suggested they could be rivals to Travis Touchdown if he also got in.
Really Enjoy Your Movesets, I Would Love To See One For Tinkaton From Pokémon Scarlet And Violet.
Excellent work as usual! So i have a feeling that 2B will win the next one but i am interested in Oatchi and Takamaru, i feel you could justify oatchi with using Ice, Rock and Glow Pikmin and with takamaru, smash does need a samurai character.
Imagine a smash like game for fire emblem?
Honestly I think maybe even a more traditional fighting game for FE would be really cool to see, something like either Samurai Showdown or Soul Calibur.
If there was legitimately a Fire Emblem fighting game, you know damn well there would be fools out there saying "We already have that! It's called Smash Ultimate!🙃"
Fire Emblem spin-offs never sell well unlike the horny mobile gacha heroes which can still be played to this day. Hell I’d take a Pokémon Smash Bros instead.
Finally, the Divine Dragon's day in the sun
Also please add Travis Touchdown to a future Patreon poll
I like how you didn't make them use their limbs more often than necessary and showcasing their melee prowess in the throws
Here's my own concept for Alear's move set:
Note: Most of Alear's attacks stem from Emblems who aren't fighters in Smash.
⬆
B Dark Inferno
B Twin Strike
⬅B➡ Override
B Ragnarok
⬇
Final Smash: Engage Blast
All aerial attacks: Same as Marth.
Up Smash: Astra Storm.
Down Smash: Same as Marth.
Forward Smash: Vertical two-hit crit from Engage.
Forward and Down Tilt: Same as Marth.
Up Title: Overhead slash from Engage.
Dash attack: Forward stab from Engage.
Jab: Same as Byleth's first three attacks followed by Corrin's flurry.
Cool to finally see alear
I have a prediction...
Alear is gonna be hated if he/she comes to Smash 6.
Oh they absolutely will, but I'll be losing my mind over them regardless lol. Alear's become my favorite FE character after playing Engage.
Delzethin, This made me laugh so hard, thanks for sharing!
Great video as always! If this got added I hope it would help fix Fire Emblem's poor fighter reputation.
For the next video of Remake it (after Jigglypuff ofc), I think it would be neat if you revisited the Echo fighters again and try to differentiate them a bit more, including characters that aren't considered echoes but are essentially clones (Dr Mario, Pichu etc).
Otherwise, a more faithful Yoshi without Eggroll (or maybe that could be their dash attack) would be fun!
As for Character Approaching, out of the options at the end of the video, giving Yoshi its first rep sinxe Smash 64 would be welcome! If you're making movesets for characters from you Reboot roster, I'm intrigued as to how you will design ExciteBike as a fighter. Maybe even adding Mach Rider as a slower, more powerful semi clone?
If not, I think a character that is extremely overlooked is The Worm (or Boggy B) from the Worms series. Despite their strong ties to Nintendo, I never see them brought up, and an extremely slow and light fighter with powerful projectiles could be an interesting challenge for a moveset, but not because of lack of source material, for that's plentiful
However, don't feel rushed to do like 3 million movesets at once. I know you've had a tough few weeks and I'm sure I speak for all of us when we say we prefer you to be healthy (physically and mentally) over any moveset that you can cook up.
But ye sick video love it
You really did a good job with this one. I have something to work with on Alear. Though having Lyn as part of Alear's Engagement moves doesn't really make her playable if she's just lending her power. So for Lyn in my roster, I'm going to have to use Astral Arrow for her special move and Astra Storm as her final smash, either with her bow and arrow at long range or her blade in close combat just like how she fights in FE Warriors. So for Alear's default special, I'm struggling on deciding what it should be. I looked at the wiki page and there's few choices left to use unless I remove someone like Corrin or Roy and have them become the engage character. Or maybe I can have it be like Kiran's and have 'Engage' summon random either Erika, Leif, Micaiah, Soren, Hector or Camilla at random to lend a helping hand with their attacks.
I would actually like one of their taunts to feature Sommie where they crouch and pet it. I think it’d show off their playful and child-like personality well
This was so cute, I love Alear… would I want them in smash, idk because I don’t even play it! But I really love what you planned for them, especially the emblem attacks. I guess Micaiah is the only unused emblem right? Lol
As far as the base game ones it's just her and Eirika that didn't make the cut
You should do Ori (specifically Will of the Wisps)
Ngl, Fire Emblem deserves the amount of characters it has. It’s an old franchise atp releasing in 1990, and out of all Nintendo series, it’s almost just as consistent with Mario, LoZ and Pokemon when it comes to releasing games. I feel like people shouldn’t be mad that FE has so many characters over Kirby, DK and Metroid etc, people should be mad at Nintendo for not giving Kirby and DK the representation it deserves because FE deserves it, and so do the games I listed. Ok back on topic, I love the moveset idea for Alear
yeah i find the nitpicking of Fire Emblem being "overrepresented" in Smash is stupid cause they may as well say that too about Mario and Pokémon.
and personally i can cut Donkey Kong some slack cause maybe aside from adding Dixie Kong...what other DK character could you go with?
Not 100% about giving Alear their Emblem form, mainly cause it's story spoilers that perhaps could be avoided. It being another metre mechanic is also meh, but that's acceptable, given it's true to the source game.
Then again, the only alternative is having them engage with Marth, which would swap spoilers for being the most boring choice (Although I like the idea of Marth adding on secondary hit boxes to some of Alear's attacks, as the source game's animations suggest).
I think the main issue of the Marth option is that
A) Marth would almost certainly be his own fighter as well. And
B) It would basically just be Arsene again.
@@shanegiorgio4713 True. There's pros and cons to each option.
To be fair, it's a trash story with the most predictable plot points ever written.
@@tentonterror2274 Spoilers are spoilers. Shouldn't mess with em.
I know we never will, but I wish we could have Azura in smash
Make Travis Touchdown Please
At long last Lueur is FINALLY here, and your take on their potential Moveset did NOT disappoint! 😄 I know this one has been absolute HELL for you since you mentioned so on Twitter, but the end result was absolutely worth the wait! 👍 Despite Engage being much more polarizing (though not quite as polarizing as If, even borrowing its beyond godawful butchered Western releases) than Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon, the game's avatar protagonist still has a LOT of potential as a Smash 6 newcomer since they have martial arts skills alongside their typical sword fighting skills as well as summoning many past Fire Emblem protagonists as their Specials! I'm also perfectly fine with their Pummel being a Knee Jab this time around since several of their attacks involve martial arts abilities anyway. I also love the way you did their Alt Costumes, very creative! Coincidently, Lueur's Playstyle being Footsies+Dynamic is the exact same one as Lucario's reworked version in their Remake It video! Yeah, your take on their Moveset design could probably use some work, but I still think it's really good attempt! Despite the odds against them, I'm actually really intrigued to see Lueur get in the next Smash regardless of their home series getting so much backlash these days! And yeah, it is very strange that they lack a dragon form themselves. Love the new redesign of Challenger Approaching too with the Fighter's stock icon, and name in the lower-left corner of the screen, as well as removing the "Parts" words, and name sections, with just the Smash Invitation now! So impressive to not see TWO new slots added this time, thus bumping up the previous three candidates to FIVE now, but also a newer twist where whoever has the least amount of votes gets kicked out for another time, and I find that to be a very nice change of pace as now you don't have to just simply one linearly, and move on to the next three featuring the previous two plus one new fighter, and so on (also surprised to see Occhin as a potential candidate as I would've assumed he'd part of one of Olimar's new Specials, but I'm not complaining)! What a perfect way to end the month of May, as well as celebrating your RUclips Channel just reaching 30000 Subscribers! Congratulations on reaching that far, Delzethin!!! Here's to another 30000! And hopefully the next CA video won't won't take over 3 months to come out (though do still take your time with them)!
Interesting
Alear is a character that I’m pretty divided on how they’d work in Smash, how I’d feel about them getting into Smash, or even if they’d get it in at all depending on the timing of whatever Fire Emblem game is next. I’m hoping you’ll sell them on me moveset wise.
Moveset Thoughts: I’m not fully sure about some of the Arts attacks, for some reason envisioning Alear doing a Sex Kick just looks weird to me, though I like the inspiration behind the Down Air. I’m pretty sure the Engage meter is nearly identical in function to Joker’s Rebellion Gauge, which is funny since it’s more accurate to Alear’s game than Joker’s meter is to his. The specials just pulling out the character in use I think is the best approach to using other Emblems, with the most interesting picks here being Canter’s retreat dash and Master Counter hitting anywhere. Overall… I’m not sure if it sold me tbh.
In fire emblem engage, Alear wakes up…. with amnesia

i deadass thought they were already in smash
Hoo boy. This one. You're bound to get a lot of opinionated comments, that's for sure. Here's my own to talk about what I've been thinking about ever since I knew this one was coming.
On paper, I don't mind the idea of Alear getting in. I even think the moveset you came up with seems fun enough that I'd play them more than others on the roster. If we were to get a Fire Emblem newcomer, they wouldn't be a bad choice. Over time, I think people would enjoy playing them while not being too worried about where they come from.
Buuuuut that's where the rub comes in. It doesn't matter if it's Alear, Lyn, whoever. At this point, ANY new Fire Emblem character is going to get backlash. And while I respect your point about the roster being so bloated because of 'Everyone Is Here', that's not the only reason people are resentful of the series. If you look at the rosters for Smash 4 and Ultimate, including DLC, I think it's completely understandable that Smash fans who aren't into Fire Emblem would be voicing accusations of favoritism.
Smash 4 base game? Robin and Lucina.
Smash 4 DLC returning veterans ? Roy.
Smash 4 DLC newcomers? Corrin.
Smash Ultimate base game? Chrom.
Smash Ultimate Fighter's Pass 1? Byleth.
With that in mind, we're at a point where fans will view Alear or any other Fire Emblem newcomer not as a possibility, but as an inevitability. To paraphrase your Paper Mario video, the well is simply too poisoned right now to give Alear a fair chance to be accepted on their own merits. For genuine fans of Alear, if the day comes when they get the invite, I'll be happy for you, but brace yourselves if you go online. Things could get ugly.
Alear is my love. My life. You have brought me joy on this fine Friday afternoon
SAME
Great moveset!
id love to see you try your hand at paper mario
it was good
That point about Sombron seeing even his own children as means to an end made me think about how Smash fans only see Alear as an excuse to cull the entire FE side of the roster as their idea of a "Smash is good now" button. After all, Fire Emblem's playable characters are all Emblems in Engage, so why not demote them to being part of Alear's moveset and nothing else?
Have you considered doing Ray from the Custom Robo series?
who?
How do you make the Splash Screen for your thumbnails? i want to learn how to do that sometime
Del, you sound really tired. Get some rest.
Do Vault Boy next!
I think Alear is the perfect addition
I mean Alear can be all of them in one
Your audio really sounds muffled
So you've taken a character with this amount of potential. A character who is the incarnation of dragons. A character who has the ability to summon apparitions of heroes of the past. A character with a ton of different weapons and fighting styles. A character with near infinite moveset potential. Then, you put them up compared to the other Fire Emblem characters. You say that Alear has the capability of standing up compared to them and provide the roster with a fighting style so distinct it will quell much of the inevitable criticism by virtue of that uniqueness. Awesome!
So you then proceed to give them a power up meter, a simple projectile neutral special, a versatile burst movement option side special, a teleport up special, and a counter down special.
That's probably the most generic set of specials you could give a character with this much potential, especially since you are trying to differentiate them! There are the multiple variations, yes, but those multiple variations are based on a meter concept we've not only seen done before through Smash characters before, but through countless fan concepts of thousands of other characters. Why is Alear special when pretty much everything here has been done before? What makes Alear unique exactly, like what you were talking about in your intro?
So, you wanted Alear to be the Pokemon Trainer of Lyn, Celica, Sigurd, Leif and Micaia?
That, or you mistook Alear for Emblem Veronica, because she's the one doing summoning in Engage dlc.
@@marcoasturias8520 I never said I wanted a Pokémon Trainer style deal. I just wanted SOMETHING more than "Projectile, Burst Side B, Teleport, Counter."
@@bc-omix1564 It's a bit tricky to think of what to change some of the specials for, but I at least thought of one for the down b because it's the one I'd most want to change. Instead of Leif's counter, I'd make the down b based on Hector's special from Engage, and it could temporarily buff Alear's strength and defense, although potentially at the cost of a little speed for game balance, with a better buff when the meter is active. The ability itself would have a cooldown though, as to not make it too overpowered.
I can't say I mind the specials not being ground-breaking (though the counter did seem like a weak choice) since it makes Alear more accessible for lower-skilled players, instead of compounding complexity on top of his almost unique mechanical gimmick.
It's one he only shares with two fighters in Ultimate's roster of 70+ and neither of them are likely to return if Smash 6 is a soft-reboot as predicted (with Persona 6 increasingly likely on the horizon and Square's historical reluctance to loan FF content to Smash).
Aesthetically I'm down for the unique pitch of a swift brawler, swordfighter, and summoner all rolled evenly into one fighter.
Is there anyone in Fire Emblem or any other series who can bring that unique style, let alone while also being as recognisable as Alear is?
Everyone who can needs to vote for Oatchi

I come from Germany Please make Travis Touchdown Please
I'm not against FE representation per se, but I can see where the hate is coming from since a large part of them are marth clones
If they cycled them after each game and every inclusion felt unique enough, I bet a lot less people would complain
