    But the frustratingly annoying thing is the electricity standing charge doubling. Even if you turn everything off it’ll cost you more!

    • @076daver
      @076daver 2 года назад +3

      I agree, disgusting doubling the standing rates as they should only increase the units used, really greedy

    • @BeCleverWithYourCash
      @BeCleverWithYourCash  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, it’s harder to lower payments thanks to this. I’d focus attention elsewhere to get the bigger savings - but it’s always worth using less elec, gas & water environmentally

    It was litterally cheaper for me to get 50gbs of Data than 10 when I last got a new contract. Then when I rang to get a better rate with less data, they knocked £5 off and doubled the speed to 100GB. Ridiculous at the mo.

    Allways good up to date information, thank you. My look at any bill is how much is it costing over one year. I use to pay £38 a month for my mobile phone with Tesco liked the new shiny phone every 3 years but then saw sence. I changed to pay as you go still from Tesco but pay only £5 monthly for a package gives my self every thing needed, when away from home, as when home I use WiFi to connect to Internet & I work from home so all money I payed for years really was wasted. I use my old smart phones that are still upgraded with software so it's a huge saving one I never use to think about in the past. I have 2 rules in my life. Rule One Never waste money. RULE two, Never forget rule one.

    Hi Andy. Can you do a dedicated video on whether home solar panels (or solar + battery) is now a more attractive and cost effective prospect given recent energy price rises? Keep up the good work.

      The neighbour infront of me has solar panels on his shed roof in a North facing location and he says he doesn't pay for electricity anymore. Bare in mind his a single man who lives by himself.

      I had Solar Thermal, for hot water, installed via a government grant, the cost was £6k almost. My EPC said that I would save between £40-£50 a year, do the maths. It was a free deal, so I am not bothered, but I would not have spent that much, not worth it! The "feed-in tariff" has been reduced so it is not worthwhile now.

    Andy, if you are studying and are affiliated to any university or institution, you can get Amazon prime for £4 a month, all they wanted was a letter, easy to knock up. Applies to online courses too!

    Andy great video ive cancelled sky and looking at getting rid of household gas in the next year. The worst thing is the increase in the standing charge its a joke. Now if you only have gas or electric and are only paying 1 lot of standing charge. Then you must be saving. My mobile was 14 pound for 10 gb and 100 International. Mins. Changing to another provider 15gb and 100 International mins 9pound

    My daughter haggled a great deal for me with 3 for my mobile last year. I got 1Gb of data, unlimited calls and texts for £5 per month. Originally they offered it for £10 per month with more data, but my daughter pointed out I don't use that much data. She asked them to offer a better deal as I have been a customer for many years. I often joke with her that her surname should have been Lewis (just like Martin Lewis) as she is very good at getting a good deal and won't pay full price for anything if she knows she can get a better deal elsewhere. Lol.

    Virgin was gonna up my bill from £42.50 to £47. Rang them politely and said sky would pay for my Netflix and good deal, I'm now paying £33 a month and they also doubled my internet from m100 to m200. Well happy with that 😊

    Unfortunately, we've had it too good for too long (low interest rates, cheap goods and services etc) all supported by on-line competition driving companies to offer more for less. We have all forgotten, or never had, habits of thrift, repair, reuse etc. We need to re-set our lifestyles and habits to learn to live within our means.

    Hi Andy. Only came across your videos recently and I really appreciate them.
    Not sure you can help with this one, but my 77 year old mum who lives by herself and is very disabled is paying council tax. Been told by a friend that she may not have to pay?

      I too have an elderly disabled mother. She doesn’t pay council tax because she is entitled to pension credit.

      One of the rooms need to be specially adapted for a disabled person: ie an extra bathroom/bedroom.

      @@karenhopwood891 you if you are an old age pensioner you don’t need an adapted room. You need to be in receipt of pension credit alongside your state pension

    You should be ashamed of yourself - you publish a video on how to reduce household bills but fail to tell people that they can save £159 by not having a TV licence!!! That is a significant saving - why did you not mention it when many people are under the impression that they must have a tv licence if they own a TV. As long as you do not watch live broadcasts and do not use BBC iPlayer you do NOT need a tv licence. You can watch RUclips, Catch up channels like ITV hub, All 4, My 5, etc etc, without forking out £159 for a TV licence. Why is this not mentioned? You could have included a link to Chilli Jon Carne’s Chanel where he has loads of videos explaining this
