One problem with your method. It works OK, but you end up with the maximum size for a track. Eg 1 five min audio track was 47MB in size. What I found is if I edit the Audio-CD profile, choose mp3 format (or wav), select suitable audio bit-rate, eg 192 kb/sec, and save. That way I ended up with an mp3 file of 6MB, instead of 47MB and no lack of audio quality.
Really thought VLC would have an EASY way to rip a CD. You know, fire it up, Shift-Click select the files on the CD you want to RIP, select your output directory, and then just auto convert and save to a set of MP3 files. Bummer. Always thought that was the standard for disc ripping, with more advanced stuff available as options if you need those. Will look for another tool to do this.
well Done. Nice video. Though i do everything step by step , i see the file choosing the desktop icon, when i try to browse and open the Audio file it doent appear anywhere! i have converted it and saved it. this is so difficult. i want to put it on Twitter.
I get 0kb files when I do this. I must be doing something wrong. Instead of the bar getting filled up with blue from the left side when performing this action, a small orange section drifts back and forth along the bar.
That was certainly NOT intuitive so thanks VERY much for posting this! I thought I'd just give it a try converting to a FLAC file and it actually worked for me... As someone else also suggested, I wish it was possible to do more than one track at a time though. Oh well! Thanks again! :-)
misha langley Yeah, there were a few vids I refered to to create this video as what the vids I watched didn't explain enough for it to even work for me so thought putting up a more detailed one would be helpful. Windows media player would be a better option tho probably if thats still a thing.
Thanks. I looked at lots of search results and they gave misleading info - followed up with "buy our product it's easier"!! Your method worked perfectly. Agree with Paul B, however I always rip my CDs in AAC, so not so bothered about file size. You are right though, all the other "convert to" options resulted in "invalid file". Thanks again. FYI used VLC as one of my CDs would not rip directly into iTunes. Did with VLC though.
I'm actually not too sure about that. You could try setting the tracks to 0. I honestly didn't bother trying that. Otherwise all I know is that you can only do one track at a time.
I had the same question as Tefen Ca ... tried his same method, and had the same failure. Track 0 is no bueno :/ And neither is doing one track at a time - it'll take all day!
@@TefenCa I thought when was asked to select a Container (whatever that is), it was just going to rip the entire CD to just a single huge mp3 file. However, no matter what I entered, it just made a zero byte file with the mp3 extension, and no data inside. Why would it ask for a contrainer instead of simply the file type you want it converted to?
I think I was able to do so many years ago using musicmatch, where I could also add the album art or any pic I wanted., but I had to search and copy - paste. VLC app can auto download the desired subtitles , so why not?
How...maybe you can help me. I'm trying to download some audio files from google drive and store them on my blank CD's...I went step by step, but I'm not sure that this is working for me.
I really hate to say it but in windows it's far easier just to use windows media player. I wish it were not so, but this is one of a handful of things VLC does really badly. iTunes of course has this feature, but does anyone still use it? If you're in Linux I have no idea, and I'm not about to ask anyone as I don't want three pages of jargon I can't understand.
You are correct. I was merely putting this up as information people might not be privy to. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is. Kind've sad how many people came across this video likely expecting a better result.

So how do you rip an audio CD? Now I know how to rip a song but not a CD. You should say this is how you rip a song, now I'll show you how to rip a CD!
As far as I know it's only possible to do single tracks at a time. Would recommend using something else. Video was more of a demonstration of how to even do it in the first place.
You barrel through this in 2.5 mins and make this look so easy, but I'm totally lost and just get Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'cdda:///C:/Users/Desktop/New%20folder%20%283%29'. Check the log for details. I've think I'm far too old to keep up with this now, esp Windows 10, can't do a thing on it. But thanks for at least trying, I just don't get it. Cheers!
Don't feel badly Len. VLC is a good media player but it's terrible for ripping cds. The interface is not intuitive and it's really not worth struggling with as you can only rip one track at a time anyway. There are a lot better tools for this job - even Windows Media Player is better and simpler.
Crook4Money With that Fallout reference/Call me Kevin reference, I am now even more convinced your name is Craig. Can you at least tell me. Are you from upstate New York? Only curious because fairly certain you’ll know me.. lol
I did as much as I could with information I was able to find. Even if it's not practical it's more than you'll likely find elsewhere. I'm also not a vlc effisianato.
It is disappointing, but it was the best I could do. I seen other videos that couldn't even rip a single file properly at all so there's that. At least it's functional.
works great ignore stupid people complaining, there to lazy to figure out the problem then they complain at u because u didnt fix there problem for free bhahahahaha
not you by the looks of it, I've found many great CD's at a local Thrift shop, converting those to my computer is in my opinion better than Pirating them, or using streaming services who may no longer have the songs in the future.

Fair enough. 7mb is probably still a bit high, but thats quite a reduction for no quality loss.
Thanks Paul Benson for your addendum to this already very helpful video. I had wondered about an mp3 option.
I doubt that theres no less quality, I mean I'm no expert but mp3 files are compressed
It use to be so easy to rip a cd to your computer. Why is it so difficult now?
I mean, this is cool...but what if my disk has 98 audio files on it. I'm not doing this 98 times! I mean, who rips just one track off a CD?

@@jamesbondaygee Hard to believe you have to do this 1 track at a time. what were they thinking?
Can you rip all cd at once rather then rip each track at a time? thanks
Afaik no.
I couldn't understand how to do this because I hadn't noticed that you need to specify the track that you want to save. Thanks for that tip.
how to save more tracks in one click
Great video. Short and straight to the point.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, any chance you found out how to do an entire album at once?
I have not unfortunately.
@@Crook4Money That's incredible. Isn't it?

Thanks much. I think VLC is poorly designed in terms of user friendliness in this respect.

Glad it helped and you shared your experience. 👍
Wow, you talk at 100mph and my brain only goes at 10mph, if that!
:D
I couldn't figure out what I'm doing wrong...just doesn't look like what you are showing...
This video is pretty old now. Could be updated navigation or something.
Looking good.
The method you show is too slow, one track at a time. How do you BATCH RIP the ENTIRE CD using VLC and Windows 10 pc?
No idea. This was the best method I could find using VLC.
What about the whole album. VLC only seems to do one track
I'm actually not too sure about that. You could try setting the tracks to 0. I honestly didn't bother trying that. Otherwise all I know is that you can only do one track at a time.
I tried Track 0 and it just starts playing the music and doesn't work.

Any way to convert a .cda file not on a CD but already saved in your computer folder? Have been trying to find info on that for the last 4 hours.
I'd just look up specific file conversion tools.
Dude...slow down.
If you can't keep up turn the video to half speed. *Solved
dumb ppl want the whole world to slow down for them LOL
Wow 50 cents. Thats a good deal.
My search does not show up in the E:\ drive
Should be whatever pops up by default as long as you select audio cd.
Hey
I followed the way u explained but i was not able to do so
How about a video on how to clean your room?
I'm not qualified enough for making that type of video.
Normally all these softwares also download the album info, what Im looking for is one that also add lyrics automatically, is that possible? thank you
Didn't know that was a thing, but probably not as I don't even think it even takes info into the equation.

shit, I was reading to myself. 2019 and Im still looking for the same as wmp cant be installed on my windows

Sorry about not including the mouse in the video. I didn't realize it was off till after I finished the video. It's not that important anyways.
I thouht 320 kbps was the top for mp3 format, now I see there is even more, hmmm
is there a way of downloading the full cd at once instead of downloading one song at the time ?
From what the comments are saying I'm going to say no unfortunately.
