An interesting thought experiment would be to wonder what if Jon never joined the Night's Watch at all. Robb likely would've welcomed it but I think he would've wanted someone to look after Bran in Winterfell, and I feel like Catelyn would have very strong opinions one way or the other on it (she wouldn't have wanted Jon around her trueborn sons in Winterfell, but also she might not have wanted Jon in Robb's ear the whole time, either). I can absolutely see a scenario where Jon stays at Winterfell to act as castellan for Bran, and if that happens, the ironborn never capture and sack Winterfell, as it's likely Theon wouldn't even attempt that if he knows Jon is there.
But let's say Jon comes with Robb. I imagine there's a marriage pact made with the Freys involving Jon somewhere. Let's say Theon is sent to treat with his father, that all falls apart, *and* Winterfell is still sacked and everything plays out the way it does in the books. At this point, Robb can just legitimize Jon as his heir right then and there. Maybe Jon's presence doesn't have Robb seek solace with Jeyne Westerling. And even if he does, if Jon is betrothed to a Frey, does Lord Walder still flip? Jon is a heartbeat away from the throne in the North.
Jon's presence with Robb gives them options.

Robb absolutely executes Jon if he abandons the Night's Watch. He won't want to, but he doesn't have any options. If he spares Jon and lets him stay, he shows favouritism in a way that sours the relationship with the Night's Watch and looks very bad to his northern bannermen. If he spares Jon and forces him to go back, the Watch executes Jon for desertion. Catelyn would counsel Robb to kill Jon, too.
Robb has no choice, but he would give Jon a quick death.

Robb would still execute him for the desertion from Night’s Watch, just like when he killed Rickard Karstark because of honor and stuffs and unlike the case of Karstark, Catelyn will be fully supportive of Robb killing Jon.

Bro Robb was going to get the Nights Watch to release Jon from his oath so if Robb should die Jon would be king in the North.

@@UncleRuckus2134 That was because Robb was desperate at that point in time. He thought that Bran and Rickon were dead.
What I meant was that if Jon joined Robb since the beginning before Theon betrayed him, Robb might execute him for desertion.

@@UncleRuckus2134 Is there even precedent for this? The Watch doesn't meddle in the affairs of the Seven Kingdoms; their whole point is neutrality. Robb says there's precedent in the Kingsguard being released from vows, but not the Night's Watch.
There was no guarantee the plan was going to work even if the Red Wedding hadn't happened and if Robb's will had made it to the Wall.

Haven’t watched the clip, but I would say one of two outcomes. The Northern Lords demand his head for abandoning the Watch.
He dies at the Red Wedding

You're looking at this all wrong. The question is what if Jon went south WITH Robb not what if Jon went south to join Robb. That indicates that Jon is at Winterfell and they march south together. The reasoning would be very simple. Jon would have received word on the assassination attempt on Bran causing Jon to return to help his brother.

I jon went south with robb, he would lose his head because that's what honor demands. Robb himself would swing the sword.

But here is the issue Robb specifically names Jon his heir and says he would give the wall men to release him of his oath so that does kinda contradict that though, but you argument could very well be Robb was desperate for a heir Bran and Rickon were alleged dead. So when Jon meets Robb in this what if the circumstances might be different where you are right

@@TheGreaseGoblins Well, in that case, who can release john from his oath? The watch's commander?

  • @paulraines9635

It would only work if he abandoned the Watch before his vows. He would travel back south with Tyrion to Winterfell and from there who knows.

  • @RedWinter21

Frey was smart to wait until after the war to seal the deal initially, it meant he didn't want to go "all in" at the start just in case Robb was beaten, the irony ultimately is that his blood could have ruled both the Riverlands and the North if he wasn't so crafty.

If it were me I would have told Tywin that if his wish to have his heir back, then I want the king's head. His daughter and grandson are responsible for him being in this situation in the first place. He gets his son back, cersei gets put in her place., and that prick joffrey gets his just desserts.

season 2 could have started as it ended on dragonstone with daemon going to harrenhall but promises a son for a son before he leaves... then while he at harrenhall he sent a letter to mysaria in kingslanding, maybe he didnt have to contact her and she did it out of loyalty, respect and understanding of daemoj from his youth as lord flea bottom and rogue prince someone as vile, cunning, strategic, calculating yet swift and brutal as daemon targaryen... they could keep shoeing us jace throughtout the season and he doesnt hear word of his brothers death until after he gains all the houses for his mother he returns and he calls dragonseeds and now he take the forefront... daemon fights because he is lord protector and is understanding of war the way he got the riverlands under his belt with first recruiting his own army to face the riverlands he just looking to add the riverlands to his army under RHAENYRA NAME he didnt need to commit war crimes because the riverlands ultimately remembers the realms delight and viserys little girl... so they fight for her and daemon because of daemon experience in war they joined him and was happy to fight along his side like jace said IT IS AN HONOR TO FIGHT ALONGSIDE THE PRINCE.. and daemon most likely does love his family 😂 i hate hbo for changing the characters from their book counterpart and changing the story so much in a way is ineffective, unimpactful and weak... the characters strategy is weak... how the h is the king oblivious, ignorant of his people Aegon is better than this he grows more ruthless although he was made vulnerable dude just got worse 😮 the burns and him getting paralyzed just adjusted his ajger into something more disgusting i mean aegon is a MONSTER he isnt weak not even a lil bit so him just mentioning his weaknesses out loud makes me sick because i know that isnt who aegon is dude is a survivor he has a strength and will to survive bro should have died so its a blessing from the gods that he survived why the show making the story weaker and the characters extra vulnerable than they actually are i dont understand

Nah, Robb will croak Jon way before that because Catelyn will tell him to execute Jon for the desertion of the Night’s Watch. Because the clever and wise Catelyn is always afraid of Jon for potentially betraying her while trusting in Walder Frey, Roose Bolton, her own sister and Littlefinger who betrayed her right under the nose.
