To the people complaining about the audience laughing at everything: First of all, it is a COMEDY written by a bunch of college kids. Second, the audience is full of their friends and classmates who are used to going to these student-organized productions late at night. It was always meant to be silly fun for their friends to enjoy. I don’t think they ever imagined that tens of millions of people would watch this years later, scrutinizing it for not being ‘professional’ and for the audience of their friends making noise. Have some perspective and enjoy the fun high-energy of it all!
For me the audience in the shows makes it a better experience for me, it’s fine wondering how the audience will react in certain scenes, even tho most of it is just laughter XD

The thing that I find funniest about the line "this year no way anyone's gonna die!" Is that while yes in the first book someone did die, in AVPS, no one did. Unless I missed something major. So the fact that second year Harry is bringing this belief up is incredibly ironic and funny to me, with the added layer of ribbing on the books
For people complaining about the sound quality: this was a low budget, college production in a very TINY room. Mics weren't needed for their live audience. Also, they were performing for mostly friends and family so people are going to laugh a lot. Also it's funny! Lighten up. :P
Also, even with mics, sound can be a problem: Actors being WAY too quiet/not having enough power. While I'm sure it IS quite funny, if the music is drowning out the actors, you can't hear the funny!
This is literally my favorite thing about the fandom, this is a comedic interpretation about the life of teenagers and how they interacted and how OBLIVIOUS Harry was. It is so refreshing to hear book based jokes and people who just enjoy the series and don't have to constantly criticize every little bit of the series.
Maybe if they changed the names they could. Like how vampires suck got away with copying twilight by having different names for the people and locations and stuff.
They can't do this or their other parody shows on Broadway because of copyright issues but the company recently announced one of their original shows is getting a limited Off-Broadway run so it's a step in the right direction! :)

I just wanted to say this because I feel like everyone knows how famous Darren Criss has become but not everybody knows how famous the freaking BAND has become! Like the bass player is Carlos Valdez who now plays Cisco Ramon in CW's "The Flash". A.J. Holmes who is the pianist and composer/arranger for A LOT of the shows (And also Gilderoy in AVPSY and Joey's Heart in MAMD) has been ON BROADWAY as Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon. And the drummer, Joe Carroll, has also been on Broadway in Romeo and Juliet (oh and covered for Orlando freaking Bloom as Romeo) as well as the lead role of Prince in Cinderella! I thought that they are a little underappreciated by the Starkid fan base and just wanted to give them some love!

I never noticed that before, and I don't know why they'd break a prop (except maybe to coincide with the line "defeat the dark arts") but upon re-watch it really looks like he tries to snap it.

They can't do this or their other parody shows on Broadway because of copyright issues but the company recently announced one of their original shows is getting a limited Off-Broadway run so it's a step in the right direction! :)

Edit: It is funny, but taking this out of context as, say, an original like Black Friday, this wouldn’t get a laugh, not in the writing, delivery, or accompanying music. The only reason it’s funny is because it’s a Harry Potter parody, and the first song. So you don’t expect him to say these things.

I just wanted to say this because I feel like everyone knows how famous Darren Criss has become but not everybody knows how famous the freaking BAND has become! Like the bass player is Carlos Valdez who now plays Cisco Ramon in CW's "The Flash". A.J. Holmes who is the pianist and composer/arranger for A LOT of the shows (And also Gilderoy in AVPSY and Joey's Heart in MAMD) has been ON BROADWAY as Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon. And the drummer, Joe Carroll, has also been on Broadway in Romeo and Juliet (oh and covered for Orlando freaking Bloom as Romeo) as well as the lead role of Prince in Cinderella! I thought that they are a little underappreciated by the Starkid fan base and just wanted to give them some love!

I never noticed that before, and I don't know why they'd break a prop (except maybe to coincide with the line "defeat the dark arts") but upon re-watch it really looks like he tries to snap it.

he wasn't trying to break it, he was just holding it there like that because that's what was in the script for him to do due to the choreographer or whoever was in charge of his actions during that part. however, the trunk latch isn't closed properly but i noticed that my first watch through as you can probably see from him trying to close it before sitting on it
