I smashed my scales with a hammer in a bit of a ceremony. I can’t be weighed and recover. A scale can’t measure health and happiness. I’m now with an ED team that understand that I can’t be weighed and be free, I’m so grateful because being weighed weekly by the other team just kept me trapped. Just did my first 100k audax today, 120 with getting there! I couldn’t have done that with out all the hard work from that team to help me with cycling nutrition specifically, I’ve found cycling reallly motivates me in recovery, but I also often have a bad body image day the day after a long ride where I ate more. It’s such hard work getting the balançe! Keep talking about it Amy!
I’m sooo happy to hear you’ve don’t that and you’re cycling in a way that’s good for you and helping with recovery 🫶🫶🫶 keep going and don’t give up!! Massive well done on your Audax & remember food is fuel & makes us better cyclists 🙌🙌🙌
Amy I just love the way your mind works, you make me laugh so much. I like the way you got through your negative thinking. Ceremoniously destroying the weighing scales is a great idea. Just keep making people smile Amy.
I struggled big style with the bloody scales, 1 gram over 85kg and I was livid with myself.. now I honestly couldn't give a hoot, I'm healthy and fot enough to cycle 160km and that's not bad for a 50 year old.. great video as always, love it. 🇮🇪
My bike broke down today and I watched this video was I walked back to my vehicle with my bike. I hope that one day you won’t have to worry about eating or the scale weight. I know it can be a long struggle but you are helping so many people with awareness and channeling energy into something positive. Also, Kyle, learn to rest when needed. Just because you are part mountain goat, you can rest sometimes.
Love it. Over 90 here in New York with ridiculous humidity, try not to ride being 59. Dehydration can sneak up quickly even if you are drinking plenty of water. Pinarello is being patient for the temps to come down slightly. Watching your videos is almost as good as riding. Have a great Monday!
This video is the reason I started watching you guys to begin with....just real cyclists pushing the pedals and coping with life! Cheers you Hudsons! Pjw
Bin the scales Mrs H! You have transformed into an ultra cyclist aka elite athlete, and with that comes muscle mass. Your body has adapted and evolved to address these incredible challenges you ask of it. You should embrace this and be proud of your amazing achievements.
I do understand Amy. I usually try to keep to a certain weight, but this year I’ve been cycling a lot more and my weight has increased. I know more of my weight is because I’ve put on more muscle, so I’m trying very hard not to fixate on what the scale says, but it is a bit of a struggle. But, I have to remind myself that strong muscle equals better rides. 👍🏾👍🏾
Ahh thanks for being so honest!! It can be so hard but yes keep reminding yourself that it’s not about weight, I keep having to remind myself this! Enjoy your rides ☺️
It looks to me as if Kyle has his saddle much too low and that might be causing the knee pain. Maybe it would be worth doing a quick saddle height calculation just to get the position reasonably close to correct until he gets the chance to have a proper bike fit. Even using the "heel method" would be better than nothing as I honestly think he is way too low at the moment. That aside another beautiful ride in the bag, so a good day all round 😀
What a surprise! I watch your video's and live in Exeter and you just walked into my nearest Halfords. I didn't even know about the café that you went too. Yippee....🎉🎉🎉🎉 Oh you have to demolish those scales, cause its more important To feed your body for the rides and life in general. Also, muscle is metabolic, so when you're fed, rested, your metabolism is hyped and you're muscle actually burns calories! If you follow the scales, you'll cut back on calories, then you will stop the above process. Best wishes 😊😊
Ahh the Sunday fix. Will be watching this on the big telly later this evening. Just a call for another Q&A video from the pair of you at some point. It's been a while :)
My home territory 🙂 I'm fairly sure we went past Becky this afternoon on our ride from Dawlish to Exeter and back 🤔 (I'll rephrase that - we didn't pass her, she was going in the opposite direction!) 🙂
Your new riding friends were nice, and much respect to becky being a teacher, not an easy job! Im with Amy, don't ride the 100 kyle, instead go get a proper bike fit and do a nice relaxing solo after , also you two should have a person/trainer to lean on when injuries pop up. I also agree with you pinarello mate, 50 miles is tops for me, any more and its not fun anymore but a risk. Im also older and wiser, he heeey!
Lovely day for a bike ride and delicious food, what's not to like?😊Enjoy your trip to the Tour😁I'm hoping to do 100 miles tomorrow, my first ride since my 170 miler a week ago! Weather has been awful but its looking promising tomorrow👍
Kyle...for your knee..have you tried foam rolling your quad muscle, top and side... I had knee issues nothing was working then someone suggested I might have tight quad muscle from over use which might be causing knee pain.. did a few massage sessions on legs n quads..problem solved.
Hey, I'm no psychologist and I don't pretend to understand the eating disorder that I know you are challenged with. I seriously wish I could help and rid you of the burden but I'm not qualified to do so. What I would like to say, you are a fantastic person, you sound great, you look great, your cycling vids inspire thousands ( incl me) and you deserve to be at peace with who you are. You and Kyle just come through as a wonderful couple & wonderful people. Be good to yourselves & keep the good work going...
Sir Kyle Duchy of Sandwich Lands...is in a fantastic nourishing shape, eats whatever they put him on the plate...quite an heavy league Lady riding with u...Princess Amy Malones...
You already know this (as you will have been at the TdF now) but one of the riders of the TdF so far is Jonas Abrahamsen. He put on 20 Kg and is now transformed as a cyclist. He used to be a stick but was not the cyclist he could be. I'd say Kyle might benefit from seeing a physiotherapist. That knee could be the saddle but it also could be as simple as an adductor muscle issue, a cleat issue. Hope it's sorted by now anyway.
Remember, sometimes weight increases are due to gains in muscle mass. You climb like a really good cyclist so I'm sure some of your gain is from strength in your quads and glutes. No worries mate.

@@amy.cycling.adventures Thanks for the info. I have been riding Lake for a few years now and love it. One of the few companies to produce shoes with a wide sole plate (as opposed to just adding volume to the upper) and this makes it a lot more comfortable. Glad to see white in a SPD mountain version, as they do look like road shoes, but they are walkable and have a full carbon sole plate. Not cheap though!!!
Unless you plan to enter 2025 tdf femme and beat Demi Vollering in the mountain stage, I don't think you need to concern with weight and such! btw, according to Mr. Google, Demi weight 128lbs/58kg

A kilo of fat and a kilo of muscle weight the same. What you want to think about is muscle is denser than fat. So you should be concentrating on how you look not how much you weigh. Happy trails and you should absolutely ditch the scale and never look back.
