Bringing mariachi to the Yale School of Music

The Yale School of Music’s Music in Schools Initiative recently added a mariachi band and salsa ensemble to its All-City Ensembles program. The after-school ensembles provide New Haven public school students with free musical instruction from School of Music graduate students. Playing mariachi and salsa is a welcome way for many of the city’s Hispanic students to tap into their musical heritage.
