    8:58 I know it is almost 2 years later and some of you might give up on this issue but I will just leave a resolution for it here in case some one needs it.
    You go to Settings > Ease of Access > Audio > then switch the option "Turn on mono audio"
    And boom, it works for me. Hope it works for you too. Cheers!

    Thanks for this! I didn't know about downloading the firmware until a friend drew my attention to the issue. I'm now looking forward to finally outwitting my 4x4. In my setup with Windows 10, I have multiple issues with my 4x4 changing settings, especially when trying to use it with Zoom. After all the daily fiddling, it gives good results, but the software seems to have been designed by Loki, God of mischief. Far more time goes on the fiddling about than on recording. I bought the Tascam for its 4 inputs, but I suspect the glowing reviews were based on trials with nice expensive Macs.

    • @MooserTheHoser
      @MooserTheHoser  4 года назад +1

      Yeah for sure, np! I'm super glad the video is helping out, there wasn't anything else online about the super finicky software they made so I had to make a vid. And oh god, yes, it has been so difficult for me too with settings being automatically changed and whatnot, I was tempted to try sending it back as faulty... but I figured it was probably software related so I just took some more time to figure it out. Love the idea of having 4 channels as well, just in case I end up in a band or something. And you're probably right because it definitely does not like to cooperate with Windows 10 at all! Glad we figured something out though, maybe one day they'll patch it to be more accessible and easy to use.

    My first interface was a Tascam US-144 which was already outdated when I got it, broke down due to driver issues after about 2 years. Was able to get a Tascam US 4x4 cheap so figured why not. Always had some problems with it but was able to figure most out after a little headache. Broke down after about 1 year. Mine won't connect to any PC anymore. The USB light just keeps blinking. Then someone gifted me a Tascam us 16x08 interface, one of the higher end Tascam interfaces. Has pretty much been working perfectly since I got it a year ago. Don't know if this is just luck or Tascam treat their higher end products with much much more care. Somehow Tascam interfaces keep following me. Now I use this one at home and my Motu M4 when I'm on the road. While Tascam is kinda trash you really can't beat their price/input ratio.

    Thank you Pal, you are a gentleman. I wil certainly try that today, although I read a couple of reviews before I bought that thing, and they all said "if you have a Mac, you dont need to download anything!" Obviously, they live in another universe I do, or they have a different Mac that I do. I had bought this unit second hand on FB, and it's unlikely that i can return it. Though the seller had confirmed me it was "a plug and play", and he had no problem with it. Of course, he wanted to sell it... so what do you know. Now here is the thing: I need an interface that i can do interviews with two guests, or even three at a time. And the more I searched, the more confused I got on what I should buy. These interface manufacturers think all people are sound engineers... I mean, try to make sense from some of those manuals, or even the description, and you need a technical dictionary and a diploma in broadcasting!! I looked at Behringer and AKAI and Focusrite (the Focusrite 212 does not have four mic outputs), and lo and behold, i read plenty of bad reviews about ALL OF THEM, enough to steer away. And usually it is the same problem: it is TOO COMPLICATED for the layman. Even Roadstar, the £500 "all-in-one" podcast magic pulls in a bunch of bad reviews. So i understand that you "had it" with the Tascam, and you advise me to return it - but it ain't solve the problem, mate!! I had asked the same question on forums and FB groups, and I am going to ask again: what interface to buy that actually WORKS, reliable, does not need a bunch settings to figure out, and do not need the latest Mac OS and high-end software (Logic Pro, Cubase) to run???? (My OS and MAC is ooooold school, those fancy softwares cannot be downloaded, I work with Audacity, which might not be as fancy as those, but at least I UNDERSTAND and can use it, which is pretty much all I need from a recording software.) So do you have a bright idea, if not the TASCAM, then what...??? It that it seems EVERYBODY has a podcast today. They must have all figured it out how to record interviews!! Don't tell me they all have their own sound engineer.... Thanks for your time. You are good sport.

      This is exactly what I am facing with my newly purchased audio gears. After a few days, I’ve realized that I have to invest not just my money but my time on these thing as well. But it’s still not working as I expected, the audio output from the interface to my headphone is still delayed compared to what I talk to the mic. I feel that my passion is being challenged now.

    • @MooserTheHoser
      @MooserTheHoser  3 года назад

      Ohhh shit! Sorry I completely let this reply slip through. Umm I faced a similar issue with needing more channels from the device. After trying the Scarlett, I actually bought a small mixer - the Yamaha MG10. It works really well for me when routing different audio sources to 2 pcs while streaming (all at real-time). It includes 4 channels for microphones (plus a couple more channels for line-in & an fx-send option) and built-in phantom power if needed. It’s definitely my go-to for everything now and is fairly smooth to operate. No complicated software and works very well imo. *edit: I meant to describe the MG10XU which does support usb*

      @@MooserTheHoser Hey Pal, thanks for the input - unfortunately, it came too late, i had to solve the situation... couldnt wait. See, the problem with the Yamaha MG10 is that it is NOT an USB interface, but analog - and I need an USB one. Also, the software Yamaha recommends is the Cubase Ai, which will not run on my MacBook, because the OS is "too old". And i cannot upgrade to a higher OS at the moment (I spare you from the details.) So picking a mixer is not that easy... got to consider the remaining of your tech. oh boy.

      @@bendegoose9339 Sorry to hear that, I’m glad you were able to sort out your needs. I made a mistake & you’re absolutely right; the MG10 is analog only and was not the device I intended to describe. You would’ve wanted the MG10XU which does support USB input/output. Also, I’m fairly certain it would pair well with Audacity on your older MacBook. No need for the latest OS version or any newer DAW programs.

When I try to open and connect firmware, it says it cannot find the device. And "rebooting your computer" - where is this mentioned in the manual? Whenn you say reboot, you mean... restart? When do I have to restart the computer - after downloading the firmware/software, or after connecting the device...? Not sure if you still need my help but… I was referencing to the part of the video (9:38) when I explain the mystery problem I was having after having everything set up. I’m not sure why your Mac wouldn’t be able to find your device to update the firmware. Maybe try the following: unplug & reconnect the usb cable; try a different usb port (try a usb 3.0 slot); or try a different cable altogether?
      What I meant to advise:
      *Step 1:* Install firmware update & drivers.
      *Step 2:* Shut down.
      *Step 3:* Make sure everything is plugged in & good to go.
      *Step 4:* Boot your computer & hope for the best.
      This is what *temporarily* solved my mystery issue where it looked like everything was on & working but wouldn’t output a mono track. Always make sure the device is plugged in & set up even before starting the computer.
      Rebooting/restarting may not be mentioned in the manual (I am not sure if it is), however; it is always a good idea to do it after installing any sort of program for the first time.

      @@MooserTheHoser Want to hear something funny? The Tascam 4x4 works for me like a charm. I havent even downloaded the firmware, and it works with Audacity without any problem - so far. The only thing that caused some trouble was that i plugged in four mics, and the "system" crashed. and it took me a while to figure out that three of the mics were Dynamic, and one was Coven... Con... Consent.... the other one. Which needs phantompower. And the Tascam 4x4 does not have the option to switch on Phantom power on each individual mics, so either you use it or not on all four. Which is... crazy!!! I mean how difficult would it be to just put an extra switch to the mics, so the user is not forced to use only Dynamic or only Cont... the other one.... type of mics. But other than that, it seems to work!!

    I have a Tascam 2X2HR and mine has broken several times. IMHO internally it is poorly built. Avoid the Tascam and buy a Scarlett or even a Berhinger.
