So many great messages here. My favorite, is that it’s okay if something doesn’t work. You try your best. Give it a go and move on to try something else. You learn. It’s only a fail if you quit. So well done.
Brother, it always warms my cold heart to hear such high praise from one of my favorite savior of all things tool related. Thanks as always man. Hope all is well
Nice job, Brent. And nice job to you and Jess, helping out the maker’s family. That’s a chore that’s just too big for a lot of folks, particularly at such a difficult time. I know his wife was grateful for your support.
@@skullandspade Oh Good Lawd!! If Siri doesn’t stop correcting my spelling I’m going to lose my mind! I think she called you “Britt” last time. Sorry, brother. Best to stop trying to use peoples’ names, I guess.
It's a long way from Kansas City, but somehow you managed to find each other in that desert. Good to see you patch her up, we all need a bit of TLC from time to time.
I just caught myself clicking on yet another vise restoration video (I've seen nearly a hundred by now.) wondering, why. Well, I'm glad I did! This one is jam packed with useful ideas I've not seen or tried. Chemical bluing rather than painting. That's new. Thanks!
Proper job as ever. i had the joy of finding a very old bench mounted blacksmith vice that had been buried 30 odd years or more and some friendly badgers lead me to it (true story!) that was a fun restoration....hope this old beauty serves you well!
I love all the reveled brazing repairs (that stayed visible) and I think this is the first time I've seen anyone use metal blackener on a bench vise, nice touch.
@@skullandspade Everything gets what it needs. I have vises that are painted with abstract art and some which are simply covered in paste wax. No wrong answers.
ROLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rusty Gold, you guys that find these rusted out POS and repurpose them, YOU ARE WHAT OUR GOVERNMENT FEARS, BLESS YOU GUYS......., sweet pickings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Mike Wolfe
That is a beautiful old vice, it reminds me of the vice my dad had mounted to his workbench when I was a kid, that thing was great. Good to see it going back into service somewhere.
Brett it turned out very unique and beautiful. Hopefully it is working great for you my friend. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work Brett. Love ur videos. Can't wait to see ur next videos. Restore On. Forge On. Keep Making. God Bless.
Absolutely amazing work Captn'!!! I cannot tell you how much it does my heart good to see old tools not only restored but put back to work. There is something about old tools and the spirit they bring with them. Can't wait to see you put it to work on its new adventure.
Well done Brett I'm sure the original owner was looking down and watching with pride to see such a beautiful piece of equipment being given the love and time it so deserves. Lovely job with the jaws too I like your outlook on learning to do better, I always say it's never a failure I've just learned another way not to do it. Peace out brother ...
Loved the vid, but I'm writing this to mention how blown away I was by the quality of the audio!! As a total audio snob, (worked selling high-end hi-fi gear for years) I was not expecting anything like the dynamic range, clarity and spatial imaging I heard through my little budget system. Also, the music selected was very nice, and obviously professionally recorded. Kudos!!!
Came out great! Love that you left the brazing like a piece of cast iron Kintsugi. The black and bronze with the gold lettering fits the rest of your shop perfectly
That came out stunning! I got to do a similar thing to a Parker 203 that was left outside for too long. So satisfying to bring an old tool back into service.
That was an amazing build. I learned a lot from the bits where you "machined" your own vise jaws. There's a lot you can do with a MIG welder and sheer determination.
I think we all hope someone will care for us this well when we hit that age. Though, for me, I hope it will involve less evapo-rust and wire wheel usage. Well done as always Brett!
Love it! I am so happy to find a channel that explains what you are doing and gives some historical context to the piece being restored, I’m subscribing!
That monster vice came out looking great! That last scene made me chuckle! An enjoyable video, I especially enjoyed the added segment that didn't work for this project! 🖖🏻
I was just thinking as I am binge watching your awesome content. I HATE music on a video. BUT after, oh I don't know, the 7th or 8th video I realized you had background music. Um...I can't even imagine watching and enjoying your video's without this music. Not sure how you select the music to compliment the video's but, you must be some sort of composer in the after hours of your forging day job. Well done!
Awesome restoration! I just picked up an old post vise so this is perfect timing. Quick question, what type of finish is the “Maker Brand” you used. Thanks Brett.
1) There is something very spiritual about an old tool being restored. It has a new but still used aesthetic I really love. 2) Was that 'Little Nightmares II' at the end? I had just watched a play through earlier this week so seeing it at the end was a happy coincidence.
I enjoyed this.
Always two there are, never more, never less.
I enjoy you.
A man of few words. Like, literally. A few. As in three. Three words.
Me too. Immensely.
This is not only a Missouri thing but an American thing. You have managed to bring SICK to a whole new level. GREAT WORK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you are the first restorer that respects the history of the vise, no stucco, no metallic paints, only polished iron, very nice.
Mission accomplished
I really enjoy all the videos that are concerned with recycling or taking back old things..God bless you..God bless you.
Blessed
"Try things, make mistakes, do better next time." Love that you said that. Beautiful video, great music!

Thank GOD, finally a 'restoration' dude who can speak, and does speak. Thank you.
It’s my opinion, but I like hearing about the story of the piece, or at least, some more explanation of what it is and why we’re doing the work.

I have a Reed Mfg vice dated 1905. I did similar res to it. Love how you left the brazing visible in this.
That’s a damn good brand. Had to leave the braze for the story
That was beautiful. I also love old tools. Some of what I have is 100 plus old. Your an inspiration to many. Thank you

That brazed repair looks pretty cool against the blue (black) finish. Good work.
I dig it, had to leave it
Great Work, a used and forgotten Tool is often better than a new one. 👍
I 100% agree
Nice work as usual. Beautiful old piece. Love the old iron. It's good to see it won't be sitting outside, succumbing to the elements.
It’ll be well cared for at the Maker Ranch
I really like old vises and appreciate your very practical restoration of this old beast. Excellent work!
Thank you Thomas!
Loved the blueing and the fact that no Bondo was used! Amazing resto!
No paint, no bondo.

I have to agree
I like that you spent more time making it a useful tool than making it a pretty one (some other vice rebuilds are good examples of this)
