I remember seeing this on MTV a few times before they yanked it and replaced it with the edited version., and it has stuck with me ever since. It...just...matches the feel of the song perfectly. I like this MUCH better. Thanks for posting it!

Awesome song, awesome video! I love this album, I bought it in 1995 right after graduating high school and right before leaving for basic training with the US Navy. My experiences during that time and throughout life relate to several songs on this album but this video kind of hits the nail on the head with that particular time period as I left behind my childhood and went into the military.
I first heard this song in 1999, so it had been around awhile, but it sounded so current and still does. There's such desperation and unfullfillable longing in the tune. It reminds me of hanging out on a Sunday afternoon at the local skate park in '99 watching my son skate. Wish I could live in that year forever. Thanks for posting.
RayDio706 When I heard this song back there for 1995. MTv put the video constantly was incredible, the album is incredible, today I keep listening and it transported me to that time. I do not know how this band does not reach more fame.
This is one of those videos that for some reason has a deep resonance with me. I saw it for the first time tonight and it's hard to put into words exactly what I'm relating with in the video and song but it definitely struck a chord within me.
I saw Sponge at an outdoor activities venue in Washington DC. They really Rocked my Ass off & left a memorable experience for all who were in attendance that afternoon!
he 's one of the best band front men ever! his voice is incredible, he's gorgeous and sexy, and he has great stage presence! and this video is waaaay better that the other one. this whole album was just amazing, there's not a bad song on it.
There's moments where it kinda cuts out or sounds like someone starting to pull the plug on it, but it's nowhere near as bad as that one guy makes it out to be.
This is a prime example of label suits over-stepping their boundaries. I think this video is *incredible*. It would’ve been iconic. This was Sponge’s first successful single so they probably didn’t have much leverage over their label in making this stupid decision since the video was likely made before “Plowed” ran up the charts. Label said “we like our lame video edit or we aren’t promoting the song”. How this crap works 🙃
To me, this video kinda follows this guy. There's always been this storm that he's been trying to avoid, if not face from time to time (i.e. the soldier scenes). From the time he was a boy, he's known that this problem or storm was there, but he never wanted to acknowledge it. However, as he reaches his twilight years, he comes to embrace this existential storm. He embraces it. That, or the tornado could be death. It's been there, in front of him, all of his life. That could explain him challenging it while he held the gun. It even took his daughters away. Thus, at the end, he faces his own mortality and welcomes it to take him away. Just a thought.
I think you're spot on. I always tried to figure out the meanings of the songs on this album as it is one of my favorites and has been with me through several struggles in my life. I never saw this video until I just watched it on you tube but the way you described it makes me understand how it relates to the song and to the struggles that we all face.
my only guess as to why they swapped this video for the other is; the scenes with the father and military rifle then it cuts back n forth to the kids at the kitchen table by themselves, it may have left us viewers with the impression that the father was gonna do something harmful to the kids or himself, and the record company, mtv also felt that shouldn't be shown...i dunno...
the actual real answer to this is not as detailed. basically, the band was signed to Columbia, but a new division started called The Work Group and in order to help get some traction with the label, Sponge was added to the Work Group roster which had new co Presidents. One of them was the "creative" guy and felt that the solution to the video being a hit, was to scrap the story line, use the performance footage and change the colors to be consistent. That's it... nothing more poetic about it.
I remember one of the few rock drummers in high school mentioned how great that song was in class and I was the only one who looked at him with the same appreciation for that song back in the fall of 1994. Most kids back then were into posing as druggie Grateful Dead fans wearing tie-die shirts and birkenstocks every day. Oooh so edgy, LMAO!

This album is great! There next didn't do so well, and in my opinion music labels take groups and trade them in. Genres change as what's popular by the mass. Corporate music businesses take advantage of it. And, to me is why bands like this disappear from the radio and the so-called radar
to me these dudes were up there with stp on everything, skills, music creation, but idk, shit didnt have them famous, maybe not as good an agent, crap like that, they were even sharper
hombrearanita actually, this is the original one that the label head rejected because he didn’t like the visual “story” and had it recut removing the tornado story and processing the color. But what do i know.
@@AskConsigliere have you seen them live recently? They did a version of Plowed for Howard Stern a couple months ago and it was awesome. Have you seen it? Amazing that Vinnie's still got it.
What? One of the most underrated songs of the 90's??? What about one of the most underrated bands period!!
This riff has got to be in the conversation for best song kickoff ever! The whole song just MOVES
Kind of blew my mind to see a version in color and with additional footage after only known the simple orange-toned version for 27 years.
I remember seeing this on MTV a few times before they yanked it and replaced it with the edited version., and it has stuck with me ever since. It...just...matches the feel of the song perfectly. I like this MUCH better. Thanks for posting it!
Totally yeah, I used to see this version on The Box back in the day, and almost convinced myself I hallucinated it!
Me too. I remember thinking: "What happened to the other one?"
Hmm censorship??
This is way, way better. A mix of the two versions would be perfect.
From a 90's teen, lost as ever. "Say a prayer for me"
The 90s were great!

I love early 90s music videos. Dirt cheap and they always did the trick.

Most underrated song of the 90s fy bar
Totally agree. They play it a lot on the Buffalo alternative rock station near me, otherwise I would of never heard it.
Absolutely fukin agree
The best band
The whole album is underrated in my opinion
The spirit of this masterpiece is simple.... Pure GRUNGE. Greetings from La Paz-Bolivia.

melanie adams yes!! this song and the entire album are amazing.
Juan Ruiz -it makes me frustrated that they were so under appreciated.
Honestly Rotting Piñata sounds like one of my favorite records, where there's just one good song after another...
i always loved this one
Wish they made more albums like rotting pinata. Favorite record ever.
So fffffffnnnnnn Good!!!!! I'm plowed in.
This fcking song is a GREAT JAM 💯🤙
I'm glad and proud to be a teenager of the 90s
🎉 i was too
this was the only video i ever seen but in the day. didn't watch much tv back then. still one of my all time favorite songs, def in my top 5 easy.

Very interesting look at it... deep...
little audio cuts... :(
Ahhhhhh, the sounds of a carefree childhood!
Lots of energy back then . I love it when people move
uplifting..those guitars wailing far away ..the music of a person wich is looking to his ot her existence and taking a breath.
something like that
Sponge is awesome band from the 90's
didnt need to mess with the original...heavy man.
This song touches my soul, even today. My Lord, this world is human wreckage
Yes! Great, loved the video ! Music is the greatest human invention isn't it? I'm very happy to be a musician!
This will always remind me of empire records.

We always turn this up while unloading freight on the job at 4am in the Coachella valley. Say a prayer for us 🌵
this one is so much better than the one that was released.
That's funny. The Gin Blossoms hit from almost the same time, Until I Fall Away, MTV made them add a story to the video.
good recovery song I love it!
