ecuadorian here, moises can also play as a box to box 8. he didn't start playing dm until he got to brighton, and for ecuador he plays a more advanced role and you can see more of his creativity and technical game that some people may not be aware of.
Moises Caicedo was great the season before as well, where he played over 12+ PL matches, dominating the likes of United, followed by this past great season, which we all know about. Caicedo is a game changer and will greatly improve any club that aquires him.
Kante was never played in the position you say once this year, he was almost a 10, horrid. And Caicedo is not as good as Enzo in build up but Caicedo and the likes of Colwill and James should allow for him to play free role 8, even from a theorical double pivot. You also talk a lot about Caicedo's quality otb when for Enzo's partnership what really, really matters the most is his defensive capabilities as a double pivot that gets the best out of Enzo, as I said before, is one with a sitting 6 and an 8(Enzo).
A bit of an indictment of Chelsea that having spent shedloads last year it seems that they not only had no decent goalscoring forwards but also no decent defensive midfielders apart from Kante.
And Kante was only able to start 9 games last season for all of his injuries. Even then he was light years apart from his stellar best. Still the biggest problem wasn't defence and even creation of scoring chances, althought the creative bit was lacking. The biggest problem was Chelsea being by the biggest underperformer at gX. I'm afraid that will remain an issue with Mudryk and Madueke as wingers and Jackson at front, althought Nkunku will hopefully bring some scoring from no. 10 position. Even against Wrexham 3/5 goals was scored by LWB's. That isn't sustainable.
Chelsea only mistake was trying to build around mason mount, they spent 4 years building around a bench player thank you man u for buying him. Chelsea should of never got rid of jorginoh in January should of let walk in the summer cause he would of been a great panther with Enzo.
Rice is English, more positionally versatile (Pep and Arteta absolutely love this trait in their defensive players) and has been a known prospect/quantity for a good 6 - 8 years at this point. Caicedo is younger, and while brilliant - only had his breakout season last year. Plus as far as the transfer goes Brighton are in a very strong position as they don't need to sell him nor will they lose value if they do keep him another year. Rice, while there was the option to extend his contract by a year - would have lost some value. Not to mention the longer Chelsea faff about with the transfer, the bigger chance any other club that might be looking - which will include City, Arsenal, United, PIF, Liverpool, PSG, Bayern or just about anyone who has money or is in the Champions League. Not everyone could offer one of West Ham or Rice better than what City and Arsenal could, and as far as we know only those two teams could meet both requirements.
Like the video talks about, Caicedo would fit great in a double pivot. Rice appears to be anchoring in from of the CBs as a single 6, so that Havertz and Odergaard can be more offensive . Also, Rice is much better aerially

Why did Arsenal switch interest from 70m offer for Caicedo to 105m for Rice instead?
