Fun (super sad/sweet) Fact: Odysseus’ mom’s spirit was voiced by Jorge’s actual mom!
And yes the spirits were legitimate spirits of Odysseus’ loved ones, and what their singing are their last thoughts they had before they died. Odysseus’ mom died waiting for his to return and Polites died still believing in his philosophy of greeting the world with open arms!
Not so fun fact, in the Odyssey, the spirits can't be touched as he tried to hug his mom three times and failed.
If I remember Antikleia, Odysseus's mother, who died of grief to have committed suicide. She falsely assumed that her son had died, which broke her heart.
But as you saw, he is alive, and now his mom is now dead.
The ghost can't touch ya, just only haunting.
His mom died when he was away because he was gone too long. 😢 btw she was sung by Jorge’s mom. 😭
Sad fact: The spirits sing their last words. The sailors sang about Odysseus letting them down. Polites sang still telling him to open his heart to the world. His mom sang telling him he waited for 10 years for him and her heart failed cuz she thought he was dead😢
Those ghosts were his dead crew. The drowned soldiers & from the dead ones who died from cyclops. he finds out his mom died thats why he was upset.
Those souls are real. The underworld is just the place where the all of the dead go to wander, forever thinking the final thoughts they had when they died. So the men that were killed by Poseidon are froever doomed to drown terrified, Polites died still thinking Open Arms, and his mother died waiting for him to come home from war. Also, contrary to the visuals, the souls cant actually see Odysseus and the crew, so they didnt appear to comfort him, they were only painful reminders, which further push him to the last song in this saga.
The underworld saga is the only saga that doesnt have a boss fight so far. Its just emotional turmoil.
When he sees his mother in the Underworld that means she has passed away and the song she is singing is the last thoughts that she had before she died from what I understand from the composer of the musical. Everything that was said from the men that were killed by Poseidon to Polities everything they said was their last thoughts before they died that's what the composer explained to why they're saying no specific things
