In case you wonder just how deep the rabbit hole goes: I was at a coding seminar with a couple of guys about my age and we stayed in the same hotel. I brought my smartphone with me but left it at the hotel while we all went out. Now the seminar in this case was about Java. After I walked back to the hotel with them I checked my notifications, as usual. Now after about two or three days I opened RUclips and immediately got about 4 recommended videos on Java beginner coding tutorials - something I had never been previously recommended. How? Simple. Google knows my age and knows their age. When I don't interact with my phone in the same time span as they are in that seminar and only access my phone when most of their devices report we're back at the hotel it becomes apparent I was out with them. One of them probably displayed weird behavior of looking up Java coding tutorials which made Google very aware of what we were doing in that city to begin with. It took this data, collected around 8 different corners, and used it to tailor the video recommendations I got. Rob is not exaggerating, to big tech you are an open book if you are lax about any privacy measure. Needless to say I'll never take my phone with me on a trip like that again.

Indeed, I rooted my tablet out of paranoia, not :). The battery now holds more than a week with all de-google, de-lenovo adwares/bloatwares out of the picture. Before rooting the tablet was working for a day or two. So making cheap devices last longer, by longer I mean 5-10 years :D.
You don't have to root a device to de-Google it. You probably have to unlock the bootloader, which is not the same thing. You should NEVER root a device that is your daily driver with your personal information on it - by rooting it then you've removed a complete layer of security. Rooting should only be done for educational purposes on a device that you are specifically using for security testing and which does not have you personal data on it.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 I can't remove gapps without root as far as I know. So to degoogle the device I need to remove gapps plus vendor provided apps + sponsored bloatware apps. I usually root only old devices , besides, every exec call to su/sudo executes a permission popup so I can deny/approve the execution. Once I caught my bank app trying to call su :D, in turns out it was using some lib that checks if the devices is rooted, so it ask me is you device root and I like no :D (denied access to su). If I only use opensource apps that are build by hand with gradle on my machine, what can go wrong? Let's say I will turn off debugging mode off, in case someone smart tries to do "adb root" via a computer. I think I could feel safer having root around for apps, since I can install and operate firewalls to disable certain apps net access. Or give them extra hardering permissions like sandboxes to no touch certain directories.
On the other hand all my GNU/Linux desktops/servers have root user and full access to the system. So, what differs from having an Android rooted as well?
@@DamjanDimitrioski "On the other hand all my GNU/Linux desktops/servers have root user and full access to the system. So, what differs from having an Android rooted as well?" Because if you run everything as root on a Linux system (and I speak as a Linux user myself since 1997), you are also removing (at least temporarily) a security layer that might stop that system being compromised. This is why applications like "sudo" exist to only expose root at as minimal a level as possible when it's necessary. You can also deploy syslog and early warning IDS systems that can tell you immediately when root access is being made on a Linux machine, I am not aware of any applications that do the same on an Android device. Additionally, the root attack vectors on a Linux PC are entirely different to those on a mobile phone. When you root a phone, in effect you expose that root access to the WAN, whereas with a Linux PC, even with the root account enabled, you don't expose direct root access to the WAN - which is why direct root access is limited to the local console. Finally, when you run a Linux system, you are hopefully only running software from trusted sources, most of it being open source and regularly peer-reviewed. However, it's suggested that there are millions of malware apps on the Google Play Store and of these could be apps that can do a lot more damage to you and your phone if they can get access to an exposed root account.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 When I root my device, I don't run everything under root user, I just have su that opens a full privileged shell with id 0. If some app want run certain commands using the exec command with su, it asks me with a dialog whether I allow that. Also if we include c based dynamic/static libraries, many of them can ask for su privilege which triggers the su dialog again. Hopefully, some app won't try to abuse the presence of su and bruteforce memory leaks to gain root , but this might happen in unrooted device as well. For that reason I only install opensource apps manually build and signed. Having a tablet you can run full GNU/Linu x with plasma I think, never tried I need to find big sdcard. Without root is not possible/or you're heavilly limited on what you can do.
What is going to happen if they switch to digital currency I wonder how that will affect privacy some people use those pay apps so seems they are already paying through digital wonder how much privacy you have then

To be fair, up until only a couple years ago, I needed millions of dollars and a government backing me to get a zero click exploit for iOS. Those have been widely available on android for a decade, easy. In this day and age, OS brand doesn’t matter anymore. If a government power wants to exploit your device, consider it done. I still recommend iOS to family and elderly - mainly cuz the settings are a easier to manage, hands down. It’s not about security anymore. Cuz that angle doesn’t matter. But for the technically literate? Deffo deGoogle, and flat out don’t use tech of you don’t have to. When Amazon Black Friday starts, I’m getting an analog damn watch. I don’t need electronics to tell me what time it is, or how long I’ve been running. lol
I don't have de-googled phone. But with recent Steam Deck release, I've been loving Linux more. If I could have KDE on my phone, I would do it in a heartbeat. I don't hate Android, I hate Google.
For the sake of pure science, these data should be available and usable in some form. Obviously in hopes that some tech, software etc can be made and curated for the betterment of us all. How can this be done without comprising too much... the trade offs are real and also seem very conflicting without a proper framework
It can't be. The situation you posited is devoid of the reality of human nature. The power that comes with such knowledge and access corrupts so we have to deal with that reality and how it aggregates across institutions. Perhaps very small outlets can be monitored successfully but to moderate such towards maintaining individual freedoms is a complicated problem.
Why this must be tacked in a decentralized way.. It's all in the way the systems are built. Human nature is a prime example of why we need better systems

I was thinking about getting a new smartphone before i discovered you and have been wrestling with what to get, unfortunately being unable to work means the only one i can afford is a blackview a80 plus which i won't be able to degoogle and haven't got hundreds to spare for one i can.
Thank you for spreading this info'.
What is wrong with people?
It's an historical fact that privacy is sacred!
he does the work..you do the thanking. Yeh, i like that system
A link to louis' video in this video's description box would be helpful
I added now
So just having your contacts on a degoogled phone will give up your privacy? Did I hear that correctly?
Great video! I definitely disagree with collecting data about individuals. I'd like to know your opinion about collecting anonymous information of groups (e.g. Road behaviour).
It could very well be ignorance or it could be that people shilling against anti-privacy are spreading a sponsored message by big tech. Individuals and influencers often sell their opinions to the highest bidder so you have to wonder why they are so bothered by others that care about privacy invasion.
Sounds like the kind of guy that won't wear a seat belt because he's not going to get into an accident.
uhhmm I'd say the opposite. he is the average person who always wears a seatbelt just b/c his overlords told him to
It all started with Apple selling you a phone without you owning it.
Watched the Louis Rossman and the CyberInsecurity videos. Shocked that CyberInsecurity purports to be a security expert. Sad that he is clearly influencing people that watch his videos. He seems more interested in cultivating his personality than imparting useful (or correct) information.
Thank you again your information always informative 💜💙💚
I saw Louis's video about that guy. I think my comment then was, "That guy is an idiot." Still fits.
Hello I was wanting to contact you for a while so your links do I have to manually enter them?
Thanks.
I'm subscribed to both of you. I think what didn't help Louis was the guy he was responding to. The guy he was responding to had terrible presentation and a terrible attitude. It was very off-putting. However even though I like Louis, I found myself disagreeing with his take. I would like to see a collab between you and Louis because I think it would be a billion times more productive and educational.
Your cause is internet privacy. Louis's cause is right to repair and instructional device repair. What you both have in common is that you both stand against the oligarchy tech industry. I hope you both consider having a conversation with each other.
I've watched where Louis has been going over the years and clearly he has an instinctual desire for privacy. It is really great to have someone not in my line of expertise to be believing in privacy because it helps the cause. Apparently he works for FUTO now which is intent on having de-centralized operating systems for phones. Something that matches my de-Googled phone focus
Palantir, most people have never heard of that company. It us a very powerful vdata collection agency. This is scary stuff.
That guy is literally everyone I've spoken to. I don't think we're getting around this one. Dopamine slaves till the end
Is it sufficient I just don’t login to google account and disable all google functions? If no identity is provided to the phone, no social media running, maps and play services off, RUclips not used, seems to me like much better option that normie phone, am I right?
No. You cannot stop google tracking on a normie phone. Impossible. There is nothing you can do. You will need a non-normie phone or no phone
@@robbraxmantech Thank you Rob for your quick reply, appreciate it. It's clear to me Google will keep tracking but since I do not log in, do not provide my identity, name, email, phone number, do not use any of their app, they won't know who's using the phone. Some kind of anonymity then can be maintained, or am I missing something? Watching your channel for long time and aware of all treats, thank you for all your teaching.
Rob Braxman …. One of the few people that get it.
Thank you sir
Rob, I own the Brax2 phone. Could you do a one year update video about your phone?
It's only been six months! LOL. But I talk about updates to the BraX2 phone regularly on the live streams
@@robbraxmantech ok...sorry about the time mix up...I haven't been watching your videos from beginning to end lately.
About self importance:
A person that creates stories and scenarios for movies, it is necessary to be self important, to not get robbed, and realize the next movie that is on the screen, is his work, and he did not get any pay.
Like in my case. When privacy values millions of dollars, and not having privacy means not getting your millions of dollars, that are rightfully yours.
Like in my case. Self importance is one of the most important things in life. Because if you are not self important, then why are you living in this world? A person that is not self important, cannot justify its own existence.
Well, i am self important, because i am important beyond self importance. It is my case.
And who is not self important, is not important beyond that, is only important less than that. Not my case.
dear Rob, hope you and your family are keeping well.
once again many thanks for the efforts that you make.
how can I communicate with you privately please ????
Braxman....Boss
Well said
what about a video on Pegasus?
There are many videos talking about already. Go in the phone playlist - something about hacking a phone
i dont think your ranting Rob
Google assistant sitting next to responds with some noise when you make comments about Google.
Do you have any sources that claim that Palantir makes money on the stock market? I'm not doubting, but I could use this data in my own research and can't find a source to reference.
That's not what I said. Palantir is a contractor for large financial firms like JP Morgan for example. Obviously JPMorgan is using their services for forecasting behavior for use financially. I picked that up from some media post sometime ago (years ago)
@@robbraxmantech Ok, I see, thank you!
Louise the Macbook repairman philosophy is choice and right. He wants to have the right to buy Apple parts form the manufacturer and have the option of picking OS in a OEM phone. Because Apple and Google forbids sale of parts and Degoogled Android phones He didn't use a iPhone, it was a Pixel with GOS.
So, what differs from having an Android rooted as well?"
Because if you run everything as root on a Linux system (and I speak as a Linux user myself since 1997), you are also removing (at least temporarily) a security layer that might stop that system being compromised.
Having a tablet you can run full GNU/Linu
x with plasma I think, never tried I need to find big sdcard. Without root is not possible/or you're heavilly limited on what you can do.
What is going to happen if they switch to digital currency I wonder how that will affect privacy some people use those pay apps so seems they are already paying through digital wonder how much privacy you have then
Oh I have a scary video about that. Look for the Halloween thumbnail on CDBC
Wait Rob you said, knowing you're every thought.. Perhaps someday somewhere you can safely talk about v2k and RNM frequency devices!
no chance
@@kirbymohelstein4185 wow I was afraid of that, can you elaborate? It would seem the"phenomenon"will only get worse..

All ill say is sheeps ignorance should never be underestimated
Well spoken Rob!
..so, be no (tech-)normie. ^^
I don’t need electronics to tell me what time it is, or how long I’ve been running. lol
Rob you are speaking up an our governments do not like that.
To be honest, I don’t have a problem with McCarthyism. lol
I don't have de-googled phone. But with recent Steam Deck release, I've been loving Linux more. If I could have KDE on my phone, I would do it in a heartbeat. I don't hate Android, I hate Google.
i saw a commercial in a telegram group for a phone with ClearOS
Rob- who cares what Apple fangirls say. Dont waste your time on them.
So Louis it's a bot, welp that was so hard to figure out
He definitely has a point lol but yeah we should make digital privacy a human right to balance power
I saw that video and Ive never trusted unknowledgeable tech guys who say ignorant things and make ignorant claims like he did. Im more likely to trust someone who doesn’t base their claims on anecdotal evidence and that sounds like they know what they’re talking about. Also that guy was being really rude and hyperbolic in that video.
I use my 0wn DNS , I have never used a Smartphone as up until 4 Months ago I used a 2006 Tracfone burner on 2G , I have upgraded to 4 G but I have never logged into a Website , My last VACCINE WAS IN 1974 , I feel Fine . I really want a Braxxphone as I only use a Phone primarily as a Phone , I only shop where Cash is Used and will never Use anything but Gold , Silver or Cash as Money ever . I still use Win 7 and it's on a Laptop with Kill WaT , No MS Services Other than in a Chrome Browser , any other Browsing is on my Other Browsers not Logged into google or any Email accounts .
Is a degoogled phone like a dumb phone. I'm ready to step off the stage and make it more difficult for big government to eyeball me.
It's more functional than a dumb phone but as safe. You can do most phone things on a de-Googled phone.
