I'm not looking for a watch that will replace my phone, and the fenix 7 has that amazing battery, workout, sleep, and maps.

The Always on display was introduced on 2020 with the Apple Watch Series 5. So the Ultra is not the first Apple watch with always on. Also, you did not mentioned the fact that Garmin Fenix 7 has topological Maps. Ultra and all Apple watches lack this.

The fenix 7x sapphire solar watch has a major drawback, the screen in the menu as well as the messages that arrive when the phone is connected to the watch are set to black background and pale blue text (due to the poor finish of the sapphire glass, there is no white color, but pale blue color) and that text is hard to read. There is no option like on older models of garmin watches to change the background to be white or pale gray and the text to be black, which would be more legible. (Inverter color or display color setting). As soon as you sweat a little around your eyes during activities, you can't see clearly, or if you have a smaller (+ eye diopter) for reading, which most people over 40 have the same problem, you strain to read what is written on the screen. Otherwise, the watch is excellently made, but this problem with the screen and the lack of an option to set the background to be white or gray and the text to be black, which is more pleasant and legible for the eye, makes the garmin fenix 7x sapphire solar watch unusable for many people and if not documents in some software update the watch is a complete and utter failure. I found a lot of the same comments in several forums which says that the problem is not innocuous.

As a hiker I need onbord mapping, the Apple watch has no inbuilt mapping... I can't even put a map on of my choice on the watch, it's just an app ... On my Garmin I have customised trail transparent overlays to overlay on other OSM based maps I've downloaded...
ROW data Nasa map data.... Its so versatile in mapping capability.
So for me at least, the Fenix 7x solor Sapphire titanium was the right choice... but no watch is a winner, they are both so different.... Apple watch is far superior as a smartwatch.

Eric, not a watch question but hoping you'll reply.
I'm aiming for a sub 3:25. Should I run with the 3:15 group and then hang on or go with the 3:30 group and try to pick up?
I'm probably in 3:18 range now on an undulating course. Thanks

it really looks like all apple has to do is to improve the watch with software; hardware wise > apple really is winning, considering that the OHR on apple watches are really close to chest monitors accuracy. Competition is good, like in sports, and I hope garmin will work even harder.
So far maps, and garmin explore app and web connect to plan routes and segments/courses to just navigate in an city or outdoor hikes is something that i really like about garmin.
I think it can be easily considered as a smart watch feature, because i use them casually, not for sports/training, but for navigation, whether it's bike, walk or city excursion here in Europe. Of course apple can shine in this case too, but in case of garmin - it's all built in, native out of the box experience.
thanks for the video and greetings from south limburg, netherlands.

I’m looking to buy the pro ballistics, but my thing is, is it too big of a watch for daily wear? My wrist is about 6.5 inches maybe just a hair bigger

@@xBobby it is a big watch. But I love it. You’ll have to get used to the size. But once you do, game over.

I don’t even use my Apple Watch Ultra for workouts anymore, it keeps locking on me because it thinks it’s off of my wrist since I have tattoos on my wrist, therefore it blocks, the optical reader. It is completely annoying and the only way to stop it is to take off the Apple Pay, but then it still won’t read my heart rate. My Garmin Fenix 7x sapphire solar’ heart rate only works if I push it below the knob on my wrist, but the Garmin pay always works and the watch never locks on me. Also, the Apple Watch doesn’t count reps in the gym and that’s ridiculous! I where my Garmin to support me on Workouts and the Apple ultra for day to day. When I’m not working out, I strap the Garmin to my ankle so I can still get the metrics. Not to mention the battery life is so much better on the Garmin I’m an amateur athlete, but my workouts can last up to 6 hours with a long run, boxing, biking and weights. I also compete in ultramarathons, and I will never trust my Apple Ultra for that.

third party apps can track reps. Apple Workout app hasn't evolved fully yet.

@@EDWARDKILE At the moment it's why Garmin are ahead but once Apple brings out Topo maps and better native workout (via software update) I'd find it hard to recommend Garmin. Apple just need to bring out a 5 day battery life (non low power mode or something). Honestly. I'd be happy with a weekend not needing to charge it.

    • @EDWARDKILE
      @EDWARDKILE Год назад

@@tomwebb10 my Garmin is carefree when it comes to workouts and carefree is Peace Of Mind. This thing is ready to go at any given moment. It’s got my music downloaded, all the features I need and I don’t have to worry about charging it. I am also farsighted, I can read the Garmin without my glasses, and I can’t with Apple Watch ultra. I also don’t need cellular connection during workouts, because that would be distracting like all the other noobs in the gym wasting time. The metrics in the morning report, simply Red essentials since I have a trainer, it’s nice to have a reference point. To me all of these factors, make the Garmin unbeatable.

@@EDWARDKILE That's cool. I'd want to switch to Garmin but my concern would be accuracy. You should check out Quantified Scientists, he reviews all the smart watches on accuracy. It's pretty cool. What Garmin do you use by the way?

I own a Garmin epixs 2 watch and an Apple ultra watch. I could not run. Almost everything is different and I am lost. Do not depend on the battery. It will let you down for a day and a quarter. I talk to Apple owners. They say turn off the 4G. Turn off all the features. Apple Watch consider it a small phone

I’d mention that the sleep tracking and optical hr on the Apple Watch ultra is way, way more accurate than the garmin. Other than that, a great review
