Great comparison video. But seriously, charging twice a day, that would drive me crazy, no thanks, I'll stick with my Garmin lasting a week or more. A watch belongs on the wrist , not on the charger.
You are so right! I just switched from apple watch 7 to the fenix 7 for that reason. The apple watch is (almost) great in the eco system and all those apps and features, but if you leave your phone behind and use LTE, plus stream some music and then start a workout with GPS tracking, the battery dies on you in no time. I found myself SO many times with an empty watch on my wrist that wouldn't even tell me what time it is anymore. And a device that drains the battery so much, naturally has so many charging cycles that the capacity decreases rapidly. After one year with the apple watch 7 I had only about 70% capacity left even though I was trying hard to avoid the battery dying on me and stuff. I was tempted to actually get the garmin instinct 2 rather than the fenix for its battery life, but I like the maps features for checking out new routes.
@@joerrebroet I have an apple watch 7 and a similar experience. I think mine was at 84% after 1 year. Apple thinks it's totally normal to lose 1-2% of battery capacity per month and just doesn't care. I lose 3-4 runs per month and when the watch goes down, it's such a distraction.
@@takingflight708 I recently bought the Garmin Forerunner 965 with AMOLED screen, I get 9 to 10 days which is close to what I used to get with the Fenix 7X
Great video! I consider myself a top AG triathlete and used to be a varsity distance runner. I had the Epix for about 2 months, but the hype around the AWU was so much that I returned the Epix (60 days return policy) and bought the AWU. After about 6 weeks, I missed the Epix so much that I sold the AWU at a loss (the 2 weeks return policy sucks) and bought the Fenix 7SS. My main issues with the AWU were the battery life, not being able to use the watch without the touch screen (especially when wearing gloves), all the health data (sleep score, training status, body battery, etc.), and how hard it was to create a workout on the watch. On top of that, I was getting a lot of shit from my friends for wearing an Apple watch instead of a Garmin (all of them national level athletes). Sure the smart features of the Apple watch are on another level, but I always have my phone on me unless I'm at the pool or running with friends.
i did the same thing... i hade the Fenix 7x - returned it after about 2 months for the AWU.. just to realise i hated the battery life of it and the screen.. screen has auto brightness that the user dont have any controll over.. even when putting it on the lowest brightness the watch auto brightens itself when there is light around it (even indoors), cousing it burn battery for no reason.. and turning off the always on is not an option. Touchscreen is useless when working out or if wet... so i returned the AWU and now have the tactix 7 with the nylon strap..
I have my Garmin 6X Pro watch since round about 6 weeks and exchanged it for my Apple Watch series 6. I was annoyed by Apple to put out an Apple Watch with better battery life to start at 900€. Yes, I understand, it is titanium and great materials, but why didn‘t they produce it with aluminium? this was my main reason to - at least try out a Garmin watch to understand the differences and find out by myself what could be my way to go. I did a lot of sports the last 10 years, but mainly too much and there is a very professional way on the garmin to … well … prevent this by the body battery and the other features of the watch. So for the moment, I don‘t even miss my apple watch, as my phone is with me anyways and I like the offline maps and route calculation feature of my fenix 6 (like give me a 10km hike in my area - great feature!).
Hard to create a workout? Are you kidding me? Have you tried workoutdoors app? It is the best app I've ever used. I was using Garmin for 4 years or so and changed for AWU. It was the best decision ever. Charging every 50 hours with 2 workouts while listening to Spotify.
I think if you plan to move outdoors you propably want Garmin rather than AWU. There is nothing more annoying than touch screen you cant use because gloves or because it raining like hell. Those buttons really matter in rough weather and save your day. I am myself getting Garmin. I do have AW 9 but I found it quite lacking because that and because I find apple health information bit confusing.
I've had nearly every series of the AW and switched over to the Gamin Crossover for full-time use. I used the Garmin for training, and now prefer it for monitoring my overall health/fitness. The Garmin still gets notifications, etc. The AW advantage is mostly voice to text and cellular for me. Beyond that... I don't like being locked into my iPhone for everything. Data accessibility has been pretty important to me as well and Garmin delivers that for me. I also like to share location travels with friends/family and the AW doesn't do that well in my experiences.
@@ShervinShares still on the Garmin platform, but ended up returning my favorite watch, the Crossover Solar, for a Forerunner 955 Solar. The minute hand came loose on two Crossover solar models I had :-/
I feel like apple doesn’t track fitness as well. If you are an apple person I see why you might prefer apple but seems like it’s still not a hardcore fitness device, maybe in a few years
Been an Apple Watch guy since they were released, but when it came time for a new one this year I decided on the Tactix 7 Pro instead of the AWU. I had some second thoughts when initially setting it up and learning how to use it since it’s so different (and definitely less polished overall) but I haven’t regretted it a single day since then. The Apple Watch is hands down the better ‘smart’ watch, but the Garmin wins as a health/fitness tracker IMO. The battery life alone was the convincing factor for me, I charge it when I shower and that’s it, it stays between 85-100% pretty much all the time and knowing I could go 2+ weeks without charging if necessary is great. The charging ritual that comes along with the Apple Watch is exhausting in comparison. I find the Stress, Body Battery, and Training Status, and Morning Summary features on the Garmin to be far more useful day-to-day data points than anything I ever got out of my Apple Watch. Built-in topo maps and the customization of workout data screens are a big bonus too IMO. All in, if you’re more inside than outside the Apple Watch is probably the better choice, but if you just want to get out there the Tactix 7 Pro is an excellent choice. To be fair though, they both seem like great options and I think it just comes down to what you care about, getting away from the Apple Watch charging ritual was an easy decision for me, but if they ever release a version with 1+ week battery life I could see myself switching back.
I don’t think anybody would argue that the apple watch is the best smart watch money can buy, that said serious athletes are always going to gravitate towards a garmin or likewise watch. The training features and battery life on the garmin are just better for overall fitness tracking. For the majority of people tho a garmin is a waste of time. If you spend most of the time sedentary working, then going to the gym for an hour at night or a 30 minute run the apple watch is going to bring you so much more benefit.
I had the AW6 and now the Fenix7X, and i must say, the ability to make my own workouts: yoga, hiit, running and so on is just amazing. I can save hiking courses and other maps on my watch. That alone will make the fenix the best watch. Because i can do all my sports without my phone. I don’t need 10 apps like you wrote in the video to do my training. This is for me a big plus. With the AWU you need to much extra apps just to do a regular training because Apple doesn’t let you do the smallest thing by your own. The only thing that is sad, that the Fenix doesn’t have LTE. With that i would say it’s the best watch ever.
I have to disappoint "scientific reviews' and say that Apple Watch Ultra has the worst HR sensor and it is not just me , but a lot of guys complain on many sites about the heart rate reading dropping suddenly during a workout. I'd like to add that my Ultra HR reading is inaccurate in comparison with Garmin Fenix 7x - I tested both at the same time during one of my workout. The difference of 40 heart beats /min is self explanatory. I also tested G. Fenix 7x HR sensor reading from my wrist against a HR band around my chest during workout in Zwift app running on my Apple TV and they were the same (1 beat difference every now and then).
Tried both. Personally it all came down to battery life. I found living in a colder climate the Garmin takes the cake. With the apple watch as well I have to always take the cord where ever I go for a few days, where as with the Fenix 7 as long as I have about 30% battery life im goo to go. (yes I do about hour long activities everyday).
I am a 60 year old Hybrid Athlete.…. I use both and completely relate to every point made in this video. Wow!! The comparisons are identical. Thanks for proving me right. Good stuff! I appreciate good vids and subscribing to good content. Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff. Thanks!
I like my AW but prefer the stress and workout tracking on Garmin. As I have high blood pressure (stress related) it is much easier to see what causes stress from Garmin. And I prefer the round looks. But there are pros and cons for both eco systems and so I keep both.
First thing: thinking about what is causing the stress. Maybe there is an opportunity to avoid situations like it for the future. Second I try to calm down. Taking a minute for myself. For example I now take my work breaks very seriously. And I know that for me going for a walk during the break is not the right thing so I close my doors and try to take a nap or just sit there with my eyes close and relax.
I bough ultra after many years on garmin, the only reason was cellular connection, but now after few months I am still considering switch back to garmin. Garmin is much better as a sports watch, still the difference is huge and also the way how you control the Garmin watch is 10x better.
Awesome video. After moving to Garmin(5ish years ago), from AW, I had my doubts. My wife convinced me to give the ultra a try and I love it. It feels like the perfect combo of both garmin and AW.
I got a Fenix 6X & Apple Watch. I wore both for a while to figure it out & I now just wear the Fenix as I look crazy wearing 2 watches! It was a tough choice but the battery life, & fitness stuff like body battery edged it for me on Garmin & the stuff I miss off AW is ‘smart’ stuff like Apple Pay, turning my lights on & off, & a phone if I forget to pick mine up! I sure don’t miss the AW battery life. However I don’t think either is perfect on its own yet.. 👍🏻
I main my garmin daily. However, the Apple Watch should be advertised as a wrist mounted gps. That feature is bananas. I bought it to navigate on my motorcycle. It boggles my brain that a gps king like garmin does not include any easy to use navigation.
Wait, 13:34: sauna mode? I don't have this on my watch and I thought garmin officially didn't want us to use the watch in saunas so why would they give an activity mode for it? Whaaaaaaat???
I currently have a Garmin fenix 6 Pro Solar and an Apple Watch S9. The most important attraction of Apple Watch is the presence of Apple Pay. This is really what keeps me on the Apple side.
I've never liked apple's tec, mainly due to the fact I've always worked outdoors on farms out fishing and in the forestry and now in the security sector. I've always been a G Shock wearer until recently i purchased a Garmin fenix 7x pro sapphire solar, and there's no looking back. My mate just brought me an apple watch ultra something, so when it arrives, I'll give it a go with the iPhone he brought me to. He's one of those guys ( RICH and very generous ) and one of the best guys I've ever known. Awesome review, mate.
Great video, I've been rocking the Apple Watch SE, I do a lot of hiking and mountain biking/road cycling. I've been doing some research on whether to go with a Garmin Fenix/Epix or upgrade to the AWU. I enjoyed how much you covered between the two watches it was very educational. I think I'll go with the AWU because of the integration with my iphone. I also love having the cellular so I don't have to bring my phone when I go ride or want to unplug during a hike! I do think if your doing ultramarathons, adventure racing, backpacking, thru hiking, and long endurance sports a Garmin is the better choice.
I have both, and the Garmin is definitely more for the elite athlete, that also requires battery life, such as hiking in the Australian outback for a few weeks. However, that said the Apple Watch Ultra is an amazing piece of technology, that provides far better smart features, while also having amazing health tracking features, and being able to leave your phone at home. If the Apple Watch Ultra had a 2 week battery life, Garmin would be in deep doo doo.
The Ultra is awesome, but I need training readiness, load, recovery, body battery type info. The stress metric on my Garmin has helped me a lot, to a point where that would be among the most missed features in a switch.
@@ShervinShares I refrain from HIIT more often. When I ignore both a low training readiness and low recovery I get hit with a time penalty of days. My challenge is, my body gets fatigued sooner, I no longer feel it as clearly, it takes longer to recover, but especially if I overtrain. And a number of poor nights sleep will way more seriously affect recovery. So there is a much narrower window of behaviour to actually improve physically. So load and recovery time is paramount.
Great video. Switch over to my Ultra after years of running with both an Apple Watch and Garmin Forerunner. I haven't looked back. The Ultra could use a few more things but I all of it could be included through software over time. Running the LA Marathon in March with the Ultra. Excited to see how it goes.
this watch Fenix 7x or the Epix GEN 2 pro or standard...your thoughts ? they both do golf right ? biggest difference is the screens ? having a hard time choosing which Garmin watch to get....HELP ME ALL...interested in your thoughts....thx,,,,cheers from Canada
Athlytic tracks recovery vs exertion, training load, training load ratio, VO2 (cardio fitness is what it is called in the app), and training adaptation.
Wow, very informative video! The video production and editing is like watching a professionally produced piece destined for TV or other professional use. Clearly you put in a huge amount of effort making your videos. I also agree 100% with your conclusions on this one.
Have you ever used your Apple Watch for mapping and navigation? If so how does it compare to Garmin? I’m trying to decide between the two. I currently have a series 6 and I’m looking to upgrade.
This is a correct assessment of the two watches, probably the most accurate. I have both a high end Garmin watch and the Apple Watch ultra 2, and unless you live in the back country with frequently no service/internet/power, or run a marathon weekly, then the Apple Watch is infinitely more useful. With 2 apps you can do 99.9% of what the Garmin watch does, the only thing the apple watch is lacking, is the offline map routing on the watch (you can still do offline map routing on the Iphone app and send it to your watch), and a super long battery(though I found the Ultra 2 battery to be fine). Using the Garmin to set a navigation path is a pain anyway, so I ended up using the Garmin the same way I use my Apple watch: set the route in the iphone app and send it to my watch. I always have a battery pack and my phone when on hikes so charging the watch isn’t any more of an inconvenience. I even have 1 cord with 2 connectors so I only need to bring 1 cord. When you are not running a marathon, or climbing a mountain in the backcountry, the garmin is basically just a watch, while the Apple Watch is still extremely useful in a plethora of ways: from strength training to going on a run in your neighborhood while being able to leave your phone because you can take emergency calls on your watch. It basically boils down to this: There is almost nothing the Apple Watch can’t do that the Garmin can, but there is lots the Apple Watch can do, that the Garmin cannot.
There are 2 reasons why I prefer the Garmin: 1. Offline maps. It’s invaluable being able to go anywhere and just plot a course and I can use it, even without cellular connectivity. 2. The buttons. Just that
… And the body battery, the always on screen during workouts, better readeabality in de sunshine, the garmin app with all data and more integrated, and the battery life. Still i’m always strugling to decide wearing my ultra or 7X… 😅
Thanks! Just sent my Garmin Fenix 7 Pro back and decided to stick with my Apple Watch Ultra exactly due to the reasons you described. As a fitness enthusiast that hits the gym, runs and rides bike, the battery life is absolutely sufficient. I simply load it while brushing my teeth or showering, which is sufficient to move on. I enjoy how the AW interacts with my iPhone and my Air Pods... streaming Spotify while running... calling my mum or dad while running. Accepting a call while not having a hand free to pick the iPhone. Using Apple Pay.... just a lot of little features that make my life easier, which I miss at the Garmin. But in the end, it is really a personal decision based on individual preferences.... Smart Watch for atheltes --> AW.... Fitness Tracker e. g. for Ultra Runs with some smart watch features -> Garmin.
You’re the perfect user for the Ultra Most of your video revolves around the Ultra being able to do 70% of things from your iPhone. As someone who never leaves my iphone away, I’m the opposite - I don’t need another phone that does all the same things. My iPhone is always with me The Garmin is perfect as it gives me unique stats and health things that the Ultra is simply missing. I use it for strength training and the custom fields for running and other sports do not compare. The Garmin epix pro provides unique functionality and stats, the ultra is just another (redundant) phone on my wrist
Amazing connect. Do you think AW has something like the training status. of detaining and peaking etc that Garmin has ? Is there a third party app you recommend.
Thx for this review, Shervin. It’s a difficult one, wearing my Ultra or my 7X solar. I do like the Ultra smart watch functions. But on the 7X i love the body battery, the always on screen during workouts, better readeabality in de sunshine, the garmin app with (much more) integrated data and the battery life and the solar. Grtz
If you live and love in the apple universe the AW makes perfect sense, it's just another device working almost perfect with the other apple device. Garmin is only needed for the extreme sport part and outdoors. But I am android and an Instinct2x, which runs for 1m wo charging. For me it works super well for all my use cases. AW is SmartWatch, basically a small phone that needs constant charging. Garmin is watch, especially the instinct, like a gshock with great fitness and outdoor functions.
I notice that literally right before a race my earbuds or Spotify or the watch OS on my ULTRA literally stops working like bad Karma and starts working again after I don't need it any more. Happens with older versions of the OS and models of watch. Marathons, Triathlons and 7 mile runs. It just fails. Every time.
@@ShervinShares well, few videos must have: 1) your desk setup (your videos looks like so professional), what device you use for make this content and what app you’re use 2) Apple watch app for running vs Nike Run Club (this my favorite, nobody make this comparison). I think your style can get great content for this videos. I’m still watching your videos, I’m glad to see your channel.
For how much Apple Watch does i forgive the battery life a little more..but i definitely think better battery life will come in the future. I know that if you put the display on power save mode the battery life is much longer!!
Unfortunately I had a bad experience with Ultra, during most of my run the heart rate recording goes off and sometimes not accurate spiking up badly.Dosent matter what I do, got the same thing. There are official Apple users forum reporting the issue (also with V2).Garmin is rock solid, no issue at all, never had.I run a lot, my final consideration, even after all the advertising that Apple made for Ultra, is not good for running, but this is my own personal experience.
Thanks for this video, it seems that Garmin is the right choice if you are a professional or enthusiast athlete who needs a specific feature, otherwise the Apple Watch Ultra is overall better and suitable due to the graphic interface and smart features
In reality I never use any apple watch functions as said in this vid. I am not gonna hold up my arm and swipe on that small screen to control the tv when i have a remote. Everything else can also be done on the phone why more comfortably ,without focusing on the tiny watch display. A lot of features that sounds like it is a convenient but might be just for show.
I had Apple Watch Ultra and I exchanged it for the Epix. Apple is getting close. They need a little more battery life and some dedicated fitness tracking software like Garmin Connect. They may get me to switch over for the second gen of the Ultra. It is nice tech but I still want more battery life. So far I'm happier with the Epix. They are both great in my opinion.
Nicely done video and looks like the Apple Watch is perfect for your use case. In my use case there's more nature, more hiking, far less public transportation, some structured training, use of my own home gym equipment, and so on. A key part of this is just wanting to own another mini and limited phone to get away from either a gigantic phone or some of the use cases on those phones. I've enjoyed all your videos but before you sell off your Garmin you've still never delivered any video of "A Day in the Life" with just the Garmin Watch. I'd urge you to make if just for some good content. A lot of people obviously keep their phones with them when cycling, hiking, riding public transit and so on but Garmin has contactless payments and you do have to enter your pin.... once a day. After that you just hit your hot keys and you're fine. Garmin can have music on the watch or control your iPhone, just like the Apple Watch. I do not use my Garmin with gymkit and that feature seems to be a bit of a dead end. Garmin will broadcast HR and likewise has virtual run for programs like Zwift which I much prefer to keep treadmill runs interesting. My Garmin will broadcast my pace, cadence and HR to my iPad when I use it on the treadmill. With regard to friction, Garmin has everything integrated on the sports tracking side. No friction there. Apple has a ton of friction because there's so many apps and subscriptions.
i'm not selling the Garmin - i have to keep it for videos!! but yes Day in the life Garmin is a great idea!! I've never used Zwift, something I need to learn more about.
I think the Apple Watch is an overall better product, but I don’t want another thing to charge my Garmin Instinct needs charged once a month. Apple needs to make the battery life at least a week or get this Proof of Concept CGM into an Apple Watch to have me make the switch.
WatchOS 9 and the release of the Ultra seems to suggest Apple takes this market seriously! I hope next update will have focus on recovery and the option to edit all the custom runs on the iPhone
i have been researching for weeks and still can’t decide …..Like idea of the Garmin connect data all in one place but think i will miss convenience of everything in AWU.
Besides the battery life there is one other major difference. The Garmin is able to broadcast for example HR data over Bluetooth. This makes it possible to pair it to a bike computer so you don't have to wear a HR chest strap. Also, the Garmin can function as a bike computer and will pair with speed, cadance and wattage sensors mounted to a bike. The Apple watch will only communicate directly with your iPhone and Airpods.
great points! apple watch will now pair with bike computer for speed, cadence, power in the last year's update! iPhone can become your bike computer screen too
@@ShervinShares Thank you for pointing this out! I'm upgrading from the series 3 and this feature made me consider the Garmin. I was unaware it was added in watchOS 10 because my series 3 doesn't get updates anymore. 🙏
I own both of these as well, and aside from the sauna problem the ultra has closed the gap. Sadly you HAVE to get the apps to make it work well. Can you list all the apps you talked about or break them down if you haven’t already?
Awesome video as always. I’d be interested to know the details of the Apple watch charger you’re using. Also an interesting array of tech on your bedside table. I’d be really interested to know what they are too. 👍
I like a lot of Apple products and I have an Iphone 13, but when it comes to watches, I am extremely fussy. Battery life has to be the main decider for me. Charging a watch twice a day, is unworkable. I'm also not a massive fan of square watches. If The Garmin could take phone calls, that would be amazing, but I still like the Garmin better. I would choose it for looks and battery life. It will have a lot of the features of the Apple watch. but not all of them. I don't currently have a smart watch at all. I have a Casio Protrek, which I really like. I'm quite a big fan of analogue watches too, and I particularly like Vostock Europe watches and Citizen Promaster.
The Garmin Venu3 will do all the smartwatch functions but won't tank its battery life after half a day. That said, I'm on team Fenix 7 Pro because i don't like to be reachable all the time 😊
Great video! One thing to mention. I think the only time you need to put the code in during Garmin pay is because you took it off. But instead of Apple asking EVERY time you take off your watch. Garmin will only ask for a passcode when you’re doing Garmin pay. Your comment about using your Garmin less was spot on.
I hike 4 times a week with GPS Tracking on my Fenix 7x Sapphire Solar , and i charge 1 time every 8 or 9 days. Its been 7 months and the battery still holds the same . Yes definitely theres some annoying things on Garmin like Garmin Pay , Bulkyness , Less Attractive in Colors , but there should be no comparison to any watch when it comes to Garmin Fenix 7x. Only a Garmin can beat a Garmin.
Hello, To be honest with you I’m more frustrated than ever. I’ve the epix 2 and the AWU and can’t decide which one should I keep. The Epix gives more data but it’s not accurate at all while the AWU is the best accurate watch in the market in every aspect (sleep tracking, heart rate, Vo2 max, Spo2...). With which one should I go ? I’ve no idea. I’ve been watching tons of videos, reading tons of comments and getting tons of confusions. Please help 🙏🙏🙏
Absolutely love this. I’m always trying to stay on top of my game by keeping fit but struggle to choose between the Garmin Fenix 7 and the Apple Watch Ultra. Thanks for the breakdown brother!
I don't really care about apple pay with ultra, i use my iphone. Battery life is super important for me and this is where Garmin blows ultra away. All these "tricks" are kust an excuse to buy the ultra. I finally had enough and sold it, bought a Fenix 7X Solar

I also like to share location travels with friends/family and the AW doesn't do that well in my experiences.
love this
@@ShervinShares still on the Garmin platform, but ended up returning my favorite watch, the Crossover Solar, for a Forerunner 955 Solar. The minute hand came loose on two Crossover solar models I had :-/
I feel like apple doesn’t track fitness as well. If you are an apple person I see why you might prefer apple but seems like it’s still not a hardcore fitness device, maybe in a few years
@@athletejmvalso about apple watch. U have to buy subscription on multiple apps to let it work good as a health tracker.
(yes I do about hour long activities everyday).
yes it just destroys when it comes to battery life, i was shocked how good it is
I am a 60 year old Hybrid Athlete.….
But there are pros and cons for both eco systems and so I keep both.
what do you do when Garmin says your stress is high?
First thing: thinking about what is causing the stress. Maybe there is an opportunity to avoid situations like it for the future. Second I try to calm down. Taking a minute for myself. For example I now take my work breaks very seriously. And I know that for me going for a walk during the break is not the right thing so I close my doors and try to take a nap or just sit there with my eyes close and relax.
By the way what I don’t like about Garmin are their software problems. With every update there is a new problem (maps, hydration tracking etc.).
I love you videos! Not just the watch content but your vibe overall 💪
Glad you like them! i hope we can meet in person one day!
It feels like the perfect combo of both garmin and AW.
yes great blend!
Do you usually wear your ultra2 in sauna? Thanks
How do you not have at least 500k subscribers? Seriously, I love u videos!
THANK YOU! that means so much, one day... one day!
This was a great watch, and the smartwatches weren't bad too
just a casual day with 2 watches haha
That’s a nice play on words haha
@@uituituituituituit glad you appreciate it haha
I main my garmin daily. However, the Apple Watch should be advertised as a wrist mounted gps. That feature is bananas. I bought it to navigate on my motorcycle. It boggles my brain that a gps king like garmin does not include any easy to use navigation.
wow that's a cool use case!
Wait, 13:34: sauna mode? I don't have this on my watch and I thought garmin officially didn't want us to use the watch in saunas so why would they give an activity mode for it? Whaaaaaaat???
Okay, google tells me one can either get unofficial activity modes from Garmin store or make one yourself via the other option in add activities
I currently have a Garmin fenix 6 Pro Solar and an Apple Watch S9. The most important attraction of Apple Watch is the presence of Apple Pay. This is really what keeps me on the Apple side.
As soon as he said "let's head to the coffee shop" I knew this wasn't a true comparison.
hahhaha... so true.
I have been using my Fenix 5x for the past couple of years. You sold me on the Ultra, picked it up today.
How has it been? Do you like it over the fenix?
Are you happy with the ultra? I have a fenix 6x and am thinking of getting one..
I am getting the Ultra watch, bc it will compliment my iPhone and work great in the ecosystem
The Ultra is awesome, but I need training readiness, load, recovery, body battery type info. The stress metric on my Garmin has helped me a lot, to a point where that would be among the most missed features in a switch.
Super interesting! How do you use the readiness, load, recovery, body battery? Like how does it change your workout routine or behavior?
@@ShervinShares I refrain from HIIT more often. When I ignore both a low training readiness and low recovery I get hit with a time penalty of days. My challenge is, my body gets fatigued sooner, I no longer feel it as clearly, it takes longer
to recover, but especially if I overtrain. And a number of poor nights sleep will way more seriously affect recovery. So there is a much narrower window of behaviour to actually improve physically. So load and recovery time is paramount.
Great video! What band do you use with your Apple Watch?
Great video. Switch over to my Ultra after years of running with both an Apple Watch and Garmin Forerunner. I haven't looked back. The Ultra could use a few more things but I all of it could be included through software over time. Running the LA Marathon in March with the Ultra. Excited to see how it goes.
ooo let me know how it goes!
What's the circumference of your wrist?
I'm on the bigger side, need to measure
this watch Fenix 7x or the Epix GEN 2 pro or standard...your thoughts ? they both do golf right ? biggest difference is the screens ? having a hard time choosing which Garmin watch to get....HELP ME ALL...interested in your thoughts....thx,,,,cheers from Canada
Amazing content as always. Is there an app that tracks training status like the Garmin watch. I love that feature about garmin
Athlytic tracks recovery vs exertion, training load, training load ratio, VO2 (cardio fitness is what it is called in the app), and training adaptation.
What is that black thing behind you in the first scene?
There are 2 reasons why I prefer the Garmin:
How about the new Epix Pro 2 with the new amoled screen? Would that make a difference ?
Can’t wait to watch this!!
woooo
Great video Shervin 👌
Which one is better for rowing?
That’s a good question - I haven’t tested or check that yet
You’re the perfect user for the Ultra
Most of your video revolves around the Ultra being able to do 70% of things from your iPhone. As someone who never leaves my iphone away, I’m the opposite - I don’t need another phone that does all the same things. My iPhone is always with me
The Garmin is perfect as it gives me unique stats and health things that the Ultra is simply missing. I use it for strength training and the custom fields for running and other sports do not compare. The Garmin epix pro provides unique functionality and stats, the ultra is just another (redundant) phone on my wrist
What are the four apps you mentioned for sleep and recovery on Apple Watch?
I have done the same
Left arm garmin enduro 2
Right arm AWU
Nice big thick rugged the way I like it
😄😎
hahah yes! do you wear both 24/7 & to sleep? or does one watch come off more often?
@@ShervinShares when I sleep I keep the AWU on when I’m awake back to the garmin where I both. I can never sleep with a garmin to heavy 😅not relaxing

Grtz
thx for sharing!
Whats the biggest difference between AWU and fenix for sauna temp operating?? Many thanks!
I got the ultra and im a blue collar worker who also goes to the gym. It’s just which one is the one that works better for your phone. Period.

Will the Garmin buzz like the iwatch when using turn by turn?
not that I know of
I notice that literally right before a race my earbuds or Spotify or the watch OS on my ULTRA literally stops working like bad Karma and starts working again after I don't need it any more. Happens with older versions of the OS and models of watch. Marathons, Triathlons and 7 mile runs. It just fails. Every time.
when is your apple watch ultra 2 video coming out ?! And also how did you find out your HR zones? In a lab I’m assuming?
Wow! This content (and channel) looks so fresh! I’m so like this format review.

For how much Apple Watch does i forgive the battery life a little more..but i definitely think better battery life will come in the future. I know that if you put the display on power save mode the battery life is much longer!!
Does anyone know the song at 13:57?

Unfortunately I had a bad experience with Ultra, during most of my run the heart rate recording goes off and sometimes not accurate spiking up badly.Dosent matter what I do, got the same thing. There are official Apple users forum reporting the issue (also with V2).Garmin is rock solid, no issue at all, never had.I run a lot, my final consideration, even after all the advertising that Apple made for Ultra, is not good for running, but this is my own personal experience.
What a fantastic video. I think Apple owes you some money for this. I think you’ve sold me on the ultra.
Can we take calls on Garmin epix or fenex ?
sadly no
@@ShervinShares i think Garmin should work on it to match Apple then.
They are both great in my opinion.
yes Apple has become more sports watch than Garmin has become smartwatch. They're slowly eating into their territory
When Shervin drops a vid life is way better 🎉

Two things: battery life and aesthetics.
Never liked square shape of Apple watch, a round wrist watch just looks better IMO.
Switched over to AWU only. I was using both a while and I see no sense to use the garmin at all.
yes!
I think the Apple Watch is an overall better product, but I don’t want another thing to charge my Garmin Instinct needs charged once a month. Apple needs to make the battery life at least a week or get this Proof of Concept CGM into an Apple Watch to have me make the switch.
If you like the Fenix 7, you will love the Epic (pro)
Which TV remote do you use at the Apple Watch?
it's the built-in Apple TV remote on the "Now Playing" app!
@@ShervinShares Oh, so easy! I never tried this before, thanks!
WatchOS 9 and the release of the Ultra seems to suggest Apple takes this market seriously! I hope next update will have focus on recovery and the option to edit all the custom runs on the iPhone
that would be amazing
i have been researching for weeks and still can’t decide …..Like idea of the Garmin connect data all in one place but think i will miss convenience of everything in AWU.

Awesome video as always. I’d be interested to know the details of the Apple watch charger you’re using. Also an interesting array of tech on your bedside table. I’d be really interested to know what they are too. 👍
it's the Belkin one on the apple website!
That said, I'm on team Fenix 7 Pro because i don't like to be reachable all the time 😊
How often do you have to charge your Apple Watch 😅

I hike 4 times a week with GPS Tracking on my Fenix 7x Sapphire Solar , and i charge 1 time every 8 or 9 days. Its been 7 months and the battery still holds the same . Yes definitely theres some annoying things on Garmin like Garmin Pay , Bulkyness , Less Attractive in Colors , but there should be no comparison to any watch when it comes to Garmin Fenix 7x. Only a Garmin can beat a Garmin.
Strava has always been off. I can run with ANY Garmin watch and when I upload it to Strava is cuts the run by .1 - .25 every single time.
You have full apple ecosystem 🙂, and then you compare Garmin in it. Very realistic and reasonable comparison.
