I remember seeing King Diamond videos when I was a 12 year old kid back in the 80’s and even back then I knew there was something special about his playing. He was just a few steps above most of the other metal drummers at that time. He has a unique groove to his playing…perfectly placed accents combined with power and finesse and a ton of creativity. Mikkey is one of the best in the biz and has been for a loooooong time.

They BOTH got lucky! Scorpions got a legend...which IMO gives them a harder edge now. But, immediately after Lemmy’s unfortunate passing, simultaneously, the Scorpions needed a new dummer...fortune and good timing came for both Mickey and the Scorps!
As a drummer and metal fan myself I disagree. He is a superb drummer for the rock/metal genre but metal has evolved with some real insane drummers. Check out Thomas Haake or why not George Kollias or Elliot Hoffman. I mean there is so many great drummers the list goes on forever. @@Goreburger. I don't think that new drummers can obsolete old ones. Yes, we all know that as time goes on, the standard of skill rises in drumming, in anything really. I think it's important to consider the environment that a drummer existed in. How original they were, how they compared to their peers, how they contributed to the music of the band and the genre, and so on. When someone says "one of the greatest" they are talking about all these things in combination, not just the technical skill of the drummer. For example Mike Mangini is a magician technically, but many fans believe he doesn't overall contribute to the band like Portnoy did. Alright I am glad to know that you are a big fan of the scorpions band and for sure we the bands will try our best to give you more hits to our music That you could possibly dance too whenever you listen to it. Question, have you ever been to any of our concerts before ?
I toured with Motorhead when Phil and Wurzel first joined the band. Pete Gill was on the throne for Motorhead, Kim Rusch for Mercyful Fate and Dan Beehler for Exciter. Night after night I got to hear those guys pounding the drums and thrilling fans. As great as that was, I never got to do that with Mikkey on drums with motorhead. Lem used to talk very highly of Mikkey, long before he joined the band. So when Mikkey did join, I got to see why. without a doubt, Mikkey is one of the best rock drummers to date.
Saw Mikkey Dee numerous times with Motörhead, they were also one of my first gigs as a teen on the Motorizer tour. Mikkey's drumming left a huge impression and even got to meet him a couple of times, very nice guy; happy to hang with fans and always with a big smile. Go Mikkey!
As a former drummer for hire for other styles of music (now in my 50's) I can say with 100% honesty that when Mr Dee is playing in my car I expect to get a speeding ticket. Thank you sir.
Seen emtwice. .I've seen death, black, speed, thrash, and every kind of metal. I've seen hundreds shows. Motorhead only band make my ears ring. Plus lemmy talked to everyone and yelled he wasnt leaving until all the fans got an autograph since they paid money to see him.
After playing Zildjian for 30 years, I recently switched to Paiste and this video reinforces why - they sound so pristine and clean and just cut through. That ride is an absolute beast!!
You nailed it with that power ride description. It is a very tricky ride to learn how to play because it is so powerful. It's like a race car that gets out from under you before you know it. You have to know how to control that bad boy!!!

Saw Mikkey with King Diamond on his first Fatal Portrait tour , that's 35 years ago , he was a beast then and he's still a beast now ! Respect 👊
The stuff he did with King is some of the best drumming I've ever heard. I absolutely love Motorhead, but King pushed the boundries.
Jelous. Mikkey is wasted talent in scorpions. Fatal portrait still, after years, is one of the best.
Mikkey’s work on those first four King Diamond albums is the stuff of legend. His playing elevated those records from good to GREAT
