EVs - and especially Teslas - don't need them. They are an inevitability. I say that as someone who was able to buy a Tesla because of the $7,500 tax credit, but it would have only delayed my purchase a short while had I not gotten it.
Although this earnings call was very exciting, the 7 years of Roadster delays is really starting to anger me. The Roadster will never be a priority no matter how long we wait, so they may as well make it sooner than later. So many people have put down massive deposits on the Roadster and have been patiently waiting for the better part of a decade. They deserve it at this point and I'm getting tired of waiting.
If an average new car is $48,000 and homes and cars since 2019 have increased 50% will there ever be a $35,000 Tesla with all the inflation. A $35,000 Tesla was back in 2019.
I keep wondering about the practical functionality of a solely camera driven FSD seeing as the backup camera on my current ICE needs constant cleaning to keep the image clear. I’m particularly concerned about winter, when the lens and windshield constantly get really dirty from road salt spray.

So, I’ve been trying out the free FSD trial and on today’s drive, I experienced a wow moment in how it managed to maneuver around traffic. In the past when trying FSD, I’ve always had to intervene when traffic gets complicated but today, I resisted the urge and the car did exactly what I would’ve done. It was assertive but cautious. And for the first time, it drove like a Tesla driver lol, mind blown.

Just started my 2nd free trial, and so far the only positive experience was in slow freeway traffic, but autosteer is just as good for that. FSD remains a pipe dream for the foreseeable future imo.

We are happy with our 2021 m3, but how many times does elon put his own foot in his mouth? Outside of the cities and protected left turns, us users have been saying there are too many blind spots on h3. Update after update has not fixed blind spots and the fsd experience in the sticks is not relaxing on h3 imho. I absolutely hope the center console display screen size is improved. Not just thinner bezels (like in the new Model 3s) - but bigger. It should be able to house a 18" scren, if the RoboTaxi could have like a 21"/22". Also the rear passenger display screen needs to be bigger than in the Model 3s.

I paid for full drive. I have hardware three. I have zero faith in Elon‘s promise to “upgrade me to make it work”. They have previously stated that an upgrade from hardware three to hardware four would require a complete redo of the CPU stack and hardware and said they weren’t planning to do it so do I believe his lie now or his lie before?
Tesla designs and makes their own chips so worst case they design one to swap out the HW3 (cheaper than a class action lawsuit). The cameras are fine and the circuit board is an easy swap. They found that the current A.I. based FSD uses less processing power than the original hard coded FSD so an upgrade may not be necessary.

But their typical M.O. is to have only one version of a car for build efficiency - so they could make roadster only with SpaceX package. You could drive it off a cliff and it doesn't fall because it autonomously flies you back. They're still working on Starship so let's let them finish development so that SpaceX-Roadster can be done properly. It accelerates using cold gas thrusters... and it corners using the thrusters too. If it ever loses traction from spirited driving the thrusters fixes it right up. Would be almost impossible to crash it.

We've heard the story of a Model Y replacement battery costing $11,911 after the 8 year or 120,000 mile warranty expires. My 2 year Model Y maintenance cost totaled $5.30 for wiper fluid.

Are Tesla Cameras (only) visual? Do they, could they, should they (will they need to) have cameras able to see in a broader spectrum, and compute such imagery for the ‘safer than human’ driving. Thinking the sun glare, night glare, poor weather lighting issues! Still camera only, but able to ‘see’ and compute more than mere human vision.

Juniper coming Q1 2025 New, affordable models will be scaled-down 3 and Y with no glass roof or frameless windows, and will have lower range. These may be a mix of previous style as well as updated elements (highland, juniper) on each. Cyber Van will not be a product likely ever.
I'm curious to what extent they'll allow people to upgrade to hw4 or hw5, depending on what is needed for fsd, assuming customers have an older vehicle but want to upgrade without buying a whole new car. I.e, could it be that only if you bought fsd before some date you get the upgrade, or if you subscribed to fsd for so long, or will you have to pay the full price in order to get the upgrade. Obviously these are questions that are a decent bit in the future, but I imagine they're already in the works at tesla.

Yep, Elon said during the call that there is not going to be a "$25k" car with a steering wheel. He basically said the future is Autonomous and the RoboTaxi is that $25k car, so I would not expect to see any new Tesla cars, trucks, or vans in the future that are not autonomous only. I find that disappointing. I love driving and if the future is autonomous, then why own a car that looks different than any other car? Our cars are a big part of our identity, not just a method to get from point A to point B. Full autonomy for every car on the road takes all the passion of driving away. Sure it's safer, but there's nothing to really love about it other than that. If the future is autonomous like he says, there's no reason for Tesla to ever start production on the new Roadster and honestly no need to make any more cars that can exceed the speed limit.
For every person who loves to drive there’s someone who hates or couldn’t drive. We are not going to be young forever and one day instead of needing someone else to drive us to the doctors our car will do that just fine. I look forward to it.

Yeah that is correct. I saw someone actually took pictures of the tire side walls to confirm it.

I paid for full drive. I have hardware three. I have zero faith in Elon‘s promise to “upgrade me to make it work”. They have previously stated that an upgrade from hardware three to hardware four would require a complete redo of the CPU stack and hardware and said they weren’t planning to do it so do I believe his lie now or his lie before?
I think Tesla will upgrade you. If they don't, their credibility will be harmed. Elon's credibility is beyond shot.
Tesla designs and makes their own chips so worst case they design one to swap out the HW3 (cheaper than a class action lawsuit). The cameras are fine and the circuit board is an easy swap. They found that the current A.I. based FSD uses less processing power than the original hard coded FSD so an upgrade may not be necessary.
they should hold off on roadster until they're ready to make it. It can go several ways - very low production super car - but then also have a less expensive version, the regular non-SpaceX version. But their typical M.O. is to have only one version of a car for build efficiency - so they could make roadster only with SpaceX package. Let's say there's a fallen tree on the road - Roadster can drive right through it by hopping over and landing gently and smoothly on the other side. You could drive it off a cliff and it doesn't fall because it autonomously flies you back.
They're still working on Starship so let's let them finish development so that SpaceX-Roadster can be done properly. It accelerates using cold gas thrusters... and it corners using the thrusters too. If it ever loses traction from spirited driving the thrusters fixes it right up. Would be almost impossible to crash it.
Even more - automakers losing money on their EVs mean that once you have to fix them, your head will explode when you see the bill, because those costs will become your problem once out of warranty. I think most of us know the story about the 60k battery replacement bill for the ioniq 5.
We've heard the story of a Model Y replacement battery costing $11,911 after the 8 year or 120,000 mile warranty expires. My 2 year Model Y maintenance cost totaled $5.30 for wiper fluid.
@@beachcrow 12k is a realistic cost of a modern engine swap for gas cars . So even the worst case scenario for Teslas aren't that bad, but there are plenty of battery refurb offers available even today.
Are Tesla Cameras (only) visual? Do they, could they, should they (will they need to) have cameras able to see in a broader spectrum, and compute such imagery for the ‘safer than human’ driving. Thinking the sun glare, night glare, poor weather lighting issues! Still camera only, but able to ‘see’ and compute more than mere human vision.
Elon is on record as saying more affordable means Robo taxi. He will not build the car we need.
Profitable on the Cyber truck is based upon foundation model at a lower volume cheaper model they will loose money as its a very niche product... I predict the volume of this product will drop ....should have produced a truck with a traditional shell...

I'm curious to what extent they'll allow people to upgrade to hw4 or hw5, depending on what is needed for fsd, assuming customers have an older vehicle but want to upgrade without buying a whole new car. I.e, could it be that only if you bought fsd before some date you get the upgrade, or if you subscribed to fsd for so long, or will you have to pay the full price in order to get the upgrade. Obviously these are questions that are a decent bit in the future, but I imagine they're already in the works at tesla.
Tesla announced tonight they will supply a FREE hw3 upgrade if it's needed for robotaxi level unsupervised FSD.

Glad Tesla had decent results but aren’t total car production numbers down from last year, especially in the USA? Energy is doing ok and they’re burning tons of cash on AI stuff that might never generate revenue. Seems to me the bump in earnings is largely due to a drastic reduction in capital expenditures. If they really come out with a brand new cheap car, where will they build them?

Yep, Elon said during the call that there is not going to be a "$25k" car with a steering wheel. He basically said the future is Autonomous and the RoboTaxi is that $25k car, so I would not expect to see any new Tesla cars, trucks, or vans in the future that are not autonomous only. I find that disappointing. I love driving and if the future is autonomous, then why own a car that looks different than any other car? Our cars are a big part of our identity, not just a method to get from point A to point B. Full autonomy for every car on the road takes all the passion of driving away. Sure it's safer, but there's nothing to really love about it other than that. If the future is autonomous like he says, there's no reason for Tesla to ever start production on the new Roadster and honestly no need to make any more cars that can exceed the speed limit.
Eventually, we grow up and need to move the kids from point A to point B in the safest way we can afford.
For every person who loves to drive there’s someone who hates or couldn’t drive. We are not going to be young forever and one day instead of needing someone else to drive us to the doctors our car will do that just fine. I look forward to it.
