Historical Backround:
The Etzel ("National Military Organization"), better known in English as The Irgun ("The Organization") was a right-wing paramiliatry organization which existed rom 1931 up until Israel's formation in 1948
It was influenced by the National-Liberal views of Ze'ev Jabotinsky, and was characterized by extreme antagonoism towards British colonial leadership.
Being significantly smaller than he Socialist Haganah, and recieving little to no support from mainstream Yishuv leadership, the Irgun adopted a more violent approach.
Unlike the Haganah, the Irgun believed in retaliatory attacks following attacks by Arabs, and as a result has been responsible for the deaths of many civllians.
Following the highly controversial King David Hotel bombing, targeting the British Military Headquarters in Jerusalem, the Irgun has lost much of the sympathy it previously recieved from Yishuv leadership, and was widely branded a terrorist organization even by other Jewish groups
Menachem Begin, the former head of the Irgun, became prime minister of Israel in 1977.
His prime-ministership is noted for the liberalization of Israel's society and economy as well as the peace treaty with Egypt (following an Israeli withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula) .
Today the Irgun remains highly controversial, with some viewing it as a terrorist organization akin to the ones Israel is facing today, and some viewing it as a neccesary force that helped repel the British Empire from the Land of Israel
This song is based on a Yiddish Partisan song, and was re-written in Hebrew in 1946 by Irgun Member Michael Ashbel, who dedicated the song to his partner and fellow Irgun member Sarah Livni.
Ashbel died in 1947 during the break-in to the central British prison camp in Acre.
Alei Barikadot is translated as On the barricades
and this also transpires from the content - On the barricades we will meet
Yeah, true. This would have been a more accurate way of translating it.

I don't get payed for the videos. I didn't even place ads on them as of now.
I simply (entirely for my own fun) try to make some Hebrew songs available for English audience to view, every once in a while.
The translation experience is a learning experience for me as well and i find it enjoyable.
I always make free translations, and take my own liberties, remaining open to other people's comments.
The videos are mine though, not yours, and if you don't like the videos you don't have to watch them 🙂
lol it actually hadnt occured to me until now that its עלי not עלה
Gracias por tu aporte, hace que mi mente no se disperse. Y esté donde debe estar. @@_Drion_

Finally a new and better version of a good song. Keep it up!
There are 2 museums of the irgun (etzel) in tel aviv. Both were closed when I went there so I can't say much about it.
Finally someone posted the good version
Blessed as always brother Drion
well being British I once I disagreed with their tactics but their nationalism is something as a Jew and a zionist I absolutely recognize now and honestly with this present enemy the filth of Gaza I get why we need to be alert and ready to deal with them
Off the record, I don't necessarily agree with their tactics. I just wanted to post the song.
yes its a wonderful song, thank you! its made me go back to listening to some other old songs and also the yomkippur war songs. I used to believe in peace with our Arab neighbors but I cant unsee what they did to our people that awful day, the murdering, the beheading, the raping. How will we ever be able to believe in peace with these people that hate us for drawing breath? @@_Drion_
Agreed. I'm more aligned with Israel than ever after Oct 7.

My great grandmother was one of the three women responsible for the King David Hotel Garrison bombing by the Etzel/Irgun. She dressed up as an Arab woman and carried the bomb in a baby's carriage into the hotel (or so my mom tells it).

Crazy. can u tell me more stories of the irgun
@jake4297 I know they would hide slicks (weapon stashes) in their house in Jerusalem. Also my great grandmother would train Irgun members at their home while her husband was working who didn't know about her being in that
@@limeboiler5471 do you know what her thoughts on the lehi were? how was she treated by the community for being in the irgun
@jake4297 I can ask my grandmother for further details. From what I understand though...
Regarding the Lehi I'm not sure... they were all very nationalistic it is difficult to say but I imagine they didn't hate each other.
Aa for the latter, being in the Irgun was seen as dangerous, that's why she didn't tell her husband about it. However, her brothers were in the Irgun as well. It really was a young people's thing and they were viewed as the cool and hip revolutionary rebels, that's how I understand it.
Also, I just remembered a story from my grandmother about my great grandmother's initiation into the Irgun. They were apparently blindfolded and taken to the woods where they'd then be made to plesge allegiance to the Irgun/Etzel. My great grandmother's brother recognised her giggle in the ceremony, before that they didn't know one or the other were members or planning on being members at least.

Has anyone found a recording or any particular details on the Yiddish partisan song this is based on? I've been looking for it for a while.
Is there an instrumental version of this?
I couldn't find anything despite my best efforts.
The melody was composed by Elye Taytelboym for the puppet show of a man named Yosl Cutler.

These crazy creatures wanted to take Jordan too 🗿
Similarly to Arabs - a lot of stateless radicals choose to reside in their world of ideals.
Additionally, when Jabotinsky first discussed Transjordan as a part of the Jewish state he envisioned it as a large raft for ~10 Million Jews, which of course, was no longer possible into the 40's.

This is as good a place as any on Holocaust Remembrance Day to say Shalom to the Chosen that have survived and continued to fight for a home out of unholy imperialism and local aggression by the lost while they get sold out by their own across time. You just can’t catch a break. May you all find Christ and be saved.
You're betting against the Jews. That's become a losing bet lately.
