  • BIG new toy! This machine didn't last two days in the Indiana Antique Company in Warsaw, IN before I stuck it in the car! This is a double-spring Edison Laboratory Model Diamond Disc C-19 Chippendale from 1920 (whew!) playing "That's My Weakness Now" by Jack Kaufman and the 7 Blue Babies on disc # 52364-R. Seems like all other uploads are of the more instrumentally-oriented B.A. Rolfe version, which is also very good and fun to play/listen to. The machine has a small engraving on the tonearm skirt which reads "Marie Morrisey 1920," which doesn't show up well on camera. Sorry about the rough start, this one goes out to my mom who thinks this song is cute haha.

It was fascinating to see this very old record being played on a wind-up gramophone. The sound quality is surprisingly good. Was this song ever recorded on a phonograph cylinder? The earliest date I have for its composition is 1920. Could it be even earlier?
Winifred Atwell rendered this melody very well on a record called "Piano Party" which contained a medley of old songs, recorded in the 1950s.
