How do you differentiate between contemporary,jazz, traditional,gospel, classical,churchy and the rest?
Good question, I have a musical history rooted in Spirituals, Anthems, Hymns and early gospel styles. I can hear the styles of each genre and year that song debut in recordings. Every songwriter would compose around the most popular song structure to stay relevant in the album sales. That's why if you learn one gospel quartet song pattern you can play any of them.
