Quite nice, very good idea, more than just helpfull (as everything else within Profex :-) ). Except the non M$ users, so wouldn't it be possible just to include the export to excel-file function, without the link to the spreadsheet programm ? The file itself (*.xlsx) can be opened wirh any spreadsheet programm (libre/openoffice, gnumeric, softmaker office ......) manually.
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the xlsx file format is very complex. Writing results to existing pre-formatted files would probably mess up the files more often than not. Therefore I decided to use a different approach and communicate with Excel through the ActiveX interface. This allows Profex to send data to Excel without knowing the file format. But unfortunately it is a Windows-only technology. I will have to research if similar protocols are available on the other platforms and for other spreadsheet programs.
