As a Hue enthusiast I was stoked when they released their gradient TV lightstrips last year, but the price of them just puts me off, especially when I see the prices of Nanoleaf like in your video here. As Nanoleaf works with Homekit I would be willing to try them - considering they are £40 for 2 metres compared to the £143.99 price tag for the 55" Hue lightstrip (Amazon)! It's a shame because I really do like Hue and I have a lot of their products here at home, but £144 for a TV lighstrip puts me off. Thank you for the video Craig, always good to be educated on cheaper alternatives!
Thank you Rebecca. I too wanted to do the gradient strips. But they were ridiculously overpriced with the sync box. It is disappointing. that is why I waited so long to redo mine. I debated buying the gradient or trying to work with Hue on a video. ultimately the Nanoleaf are great for my white light use and Apple’s home HomeKit. thank you for watching and sharing your experience.
Hi Craig! Love your channel. You used 4 meters for your install. May i ask how big is your tv? I have a Samsung 65 inch. Do you suggest me using 4 meters as well?
Great stuff! Love Nanoleaf strips. My only concern is trying to do this with a bigger, heavier TV. Not sure I want to try to lay it down - doing it upright may be trickier. Odd autofocusing on your camera - you weren't even close to the camera. Might want to check the gear. Wondering what you think of Govee's Bias Lighting kit with the camera?
Very cool. Glad you like them. I have done it on a 75” TV laid on a blanket on the carpet. Then a 65” on the dining room table. Upright is tricky. My camera locked focus on a light stand that was in the shot. It’s annoying that it happened. As for Govees kit, it is fun to use. The colors are great on it. The camera does a pretty good job of copying what it sees. But the white light is not great. Especially when compared to Nanoleaf.
Thanks Craig…great info. I’ve put a set of Nanoleaf strips on three of our TV’s….I’ve found that the adhesive gets gummy and loses it’s “stickiness” sooner rather than later….I tried command strips and hooks…after over a year still working, although not the prettiest look from behind…but oh well.
I’m using Govee light strips for my TV that are Alexa enabled. I used a 16 ft one to zigzag the strip through the middle to throw as much light as possible at the wall because the tv is in the corner of the room
I am glad that I was able to help. It can be weird to figure out how to get them on and looking good. I am glad that it worked well for you. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Craig! So, you say that the Nanoleaf Essentials Strip does not work with Alexa? The store page's text must be in error, then - indeed, I also don't see the template there which says, more or less, "This works with your device," so I am inclined to agree. I am going to get my first Nanoleaf Shapes Mini Triangles Smarter Kit (which does have that template on their page) next month to go behind my monitor for that sweet sweet bias lighting - the fact that they can react to my games or whatever is going on on my computer is a great thing as well, and what I looked at first, but bias lighting for HEALTH reasons is wonderful. Have you any experience with these? Great video, Craig! Keep it up.
What about the Phillips hue lights with the box for the tv that goes with it??? Have you used that before and do you have a video on it if so??? I know they’re pretty expensive but they seem to be really good.
I have mine to automatically come on before sunset. Or I ask for a scene that brings them up along with my lamps. I also use smart buttons that trigger scenes.
I am sorry to hear that. Heating up the LEDs, giving enough slack in the corners and cleaning the surface are things that have helped me. An alcohol wipe to get any grease or dust off the TV helps a lot. Thanks for watching.
You put it on the stand to put them on. Just brace the screen as you put the strips on. What you could do to lay the strips out on the box the TV came in. You can figure out what you need and let them warm up. Then when they are warm and have you have a plan, you can put them on the tv while it’s on the stand. Nice job checking to verify your TV.
Also highly recommend that you don’t listen to your wife. Mine pointed out that you could see some of the individual LEDs shining on the wall - just a few on the sides since ours is mounted in a corner. I “tried” to fix it by attempting to re-place the strips further inside (towards the middle of the tv) and ended up tearing the strip. So, just dont listen to your wives. You do you 😂
This seems to be getting more and more popular. I wonder how long until TVs start having this built in.
Some already do.
Philips do ambilight tvs
Philips did it, but they were before their time and people weren’t ready. Now I think we could see it coming back as more people buy LEDs.
I have a Philips TV with ambilight, it’s amazing. Love how the colour changes to match the TV
Thanks man imma make my spare led strip work for better eye strain and enjoyment
I love having blue lights behind my tv.. idk why but blue led is my favorite.

You can always measure the TV to see what size strip you need.
Super helpful, I was stressing with the connectors but not anymore.

You did an awesome job. I think I’m going to get me some. Also your tv is super clear.
LIFX on both my 65" and 75". Love this brand and the app is awesome.
I have 65 and 55. What sizes of led strid meter do i need for each?
Hello ! Great video 😊
You said in the video you used 4 meters of lights , do you used extensions from Nanoleaf? You didn’t show the connections …
My apologies for not being clear. I used the 2 meter starter kit and 2 - 1 meter extensions. Thanks for watching.
@@CraigsTechTalk No problem at all ! Continue the great videos !
Hi. I have 32in TV, how many meters do I need to buy for that size?
I would say 3 meters max. Maybe even 2 meters. I did 4 on a 55"
I’m using Govee light strips for my TV that are Alexa enabled. I used a 16 ft one to zigzag the strip through the middle to throw as much light as possible at the wall because the tv is in the corner of the room
Dude! Thank you! Me being a ditsy blond trying to be fancy and doing it myself. Worked so well!
I am glad that I was able to help. It can be weird to figure out how to get them on and looking good. I am glad that it worked well for you. Thanks for sharing.

Great video, Craig! Keep it up.
How big was your TV for nanoleaf strip installation?
What about the Phillips hue lights with the box for the tv that goes with it??? Have you used that before and do you have a video on it if so??? I know they’re pretty expensive but they seem to be really good.
I did not get the brand you mention, they a great job too, great video.
Does LifX have thread?
Do you have to turn them on every time you use the tv? or how do you automate them?
I have mine to automatically come on before sunset. Or I ask for a scene that brings them up along with my lamps. I also use smart buttons that trigger scenes.
I use the Govee Immersion set for my 65" tv and love them.
Govee makes some great stuff. The immersion is pretty cool, especially considering how it works.
what if your TV is on a stand not on the wall ? Do you still have them on your TV ?
Hello, no reason not to. It will do the same thing for you. You might get more light coverage if it’s further away from the wall.
Hi, sorry where did you plug the LED strip into?
Into in your brain
I think you need to start offering a light strip fitting service Craig
One tv has Hue and one has Nanoleaf. I’m planning on doing the Hyperian setup behind them both but I’m still doing my research.
Very Cool Dennis. Let us know how the Hyperion setup goes.
@@CraigsTechTalk sure will.
Can’t wait to get mine sorted 🙌🏻 thanks mate
Do the LED's have to be "on" while installing them on the TV?
No they do not.
I’m using VOCOlinc LEDs on my TV and my bed. If I could do it again nanoleaf for sure. I fear VOCOlinc link is disappearing
Don't make.the mistake I did and fold the corners to negotiate a bend. Loop the strip and continue pressing it into place. Looks great
Thanks Craig.
Great review!!!!!
Thank you Curtis. I appreciate you watching this one.
Govee AI Sync Box. You’re Welcome 😃
I’ve tried multiple led sets and they always fall off after a month
I am sorry to hear that. Heating up the LEDs, giving enough slack in the corners and cleaning the surface are things that have helped me. An alcohol wipe to get any grease or dust off the TV helps a lot. Thanks for watching.
I’ve tried some cheap strips but the fell off 👎
I had some like that. Bought some 3M dual lock velcro and placed 1/2" spots all the way around and worked perfectly.
Our Sony 72" TV warns against laying the TV flat so I'm going to try to figure out how to install without that step! YIKES!
You put it on the stand to put them on. Just brace the screen as you put the strips on. What you could do to lay the strips out on the box the TV came in.

I want the LED lights that align with the color in the movie to give it a 4D feel
4D? You want your TV to move back and forwards in time? :)
Also highly recommend that you don’t listen to your wife. Apple HomeKit only?! No thanks!
You can do the same with any strips. LIFX works with all of them. Thanks for watching
Pardon my dumbness. What are you trying to do here? How does this improve or mitigate anything? Yes. I did watch the video.
Cause LEDs are cool and he is showing us how to put them up also they work with homekit
Boo.. apple only. Sounds like a cult
