  • I am full time RVing in my Geo Pro travel trailer. I decided to permanently install a surge protector inside my RV. I want to avoid carrying around a surge protector from RV site to RV site. With the Hughes Autoformer installation kit, I can hardwire my surge protector and have it installed inside my RV. Another advantage of the Hughes Autoformers products is voltage regulation. The Autoformer will boost voltage to your RV when needed. In this video I demonstrate how I hardwired my voltage booster with surge protection to my travel trailer.

Great job! Your video gave me ideas about how/where to mount electrical components myself! 🤗

I agree that your new one is all you need and that mounting it in the trailer gets it out of the weather and not readily available for a thief to steal. The point they are making using their setup is that you can hook up to the RV park power now with your extension cable and see if everything is ok per the Autotransformer and then you can plug your RV into the Autotransformer after verifying everything is ok, even with it permanently mounted inside the RV. Basically the same steps that you used with your surge protector but now you just have to go inside to see the lights on your Autotransformer are lit up correctly, then plug your RV line into the Autotransformer after that verification.

Hwy there, Kevin. I try not to have things plugged in and running when I hook up to shore power. But yeah, I do go check the lights to make sure there are not any issues when I first connect to shore power.

You don't have to always take apart everything you buy. I probably wouldn't throw away that Surge protector. Placing the transformer under the sink next to your pressure pump isn't the best location. Interesting video.

Yeah, I got a little carried away with the unboxing. I am glad I did take it apart, because I feel it is better suited for vibrations during travel. Hopefully, the plumbing is suited for travel! The other surge protector already has a new home.
