  • In the key of A. The key of A for a "standard" pentatonic (correction: it is NOT a pentatonic, rather its a diatonic) harmonica is a little on the low side of the scale compared to say a C or F harp. But the tones of the A harp seem to be really nice and rich.
Each of these harps is great in their own right. The Seydel seems a little smoother and easier to keep the same volume throughout playing it. The Special 20 is a bit more wild, but a lot of fun. I seem to be a little more creative with the Special 20 for some reason. But I would use the Seydel to record something because I like the evenness of it.

Special 20s & Rockets are great. My Seydel session steel (G) is absolutely beautiful. My DeBell in G is as crisp and fresh as they come. 👋😎🎵

I loved the warmer sound of the Seidel, no question. I want to learn to play harmonica. Is one harmonica easier to play that the other?

I started out playing Special 20's and Golden Melodys from Hohner. Love em and they are easy (bright, loud, expressive) to play. Same with Lee Oskars. Recently bought Suzuki Promasters online relatively cheap and they instantly became my favorite harp. The quality, the build, the beauty, the SOUND!! Nirvana in a harp.

@@lindaking5864 no! Promaster from Suzuki isn't sound and playable as MB and less comfortable to bend notes believe me.

It sounds like it’s easier to bend the 20, but the seydel has more volume.

Hello doug, i've noticed the Seydel Session steel harmonicas are very hard to tell apart from their 1887s, the 1887 actually requires even less air to get that beautiful sound Seydel's have. I swear by Seydel, yes their a big pricey 60-89$ For a session steel, but if you have the money definitely got for a Seydel 1887 in your favourite key, if you cant? well buy a session steel and i can swear on it you won't regret just how gorgeous these things sound.

Thanks PH, all the Seydels I own have been great. In the long run, your advise is best, spend a little more, but don’t have to replace as often. Probably even cheaper in the long run. Thanks for your comment.

The Seydel is NOT a pentatonic harp -- it is a Richter tuned diatonic harp.

I'm looking for a G that won't fail on certain notes because of moisture or what have you. Seydel sounds like it is more true to the note, slightly during the loud parts, in the reeds rather than in the body of the instrument.

My experience with both models is that the Seydel steel reeds last much longer than hohners brass ones. The SSS is very durable; they really last. But to me, the steel reeds are less responsive too. The SSS takes more breath so they are harder to play. Sss are great harps but other models are more agile. Just my humble

The Seydel sounds much, much better IMHO; however, put a Suzuki Promaster up against them. The Promaster floats like a butterfly, yet stings like a mean ol growling bee.
