The structure you were interested in looks like a market hall. At one time traders would set up stalls in and around the enclosed area (maybe once a week) to sell their wares. The local authorities wanted all of the traders to be licensed and set up in one place so as to check their stuff was in accordance with regulations regarding weights and measures, quality etc. Many old market towns have similar buildings surviving such as Dunster in Somerset, Chipping Campden in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds etc.
I love these videos. I am from Charleston, South Carolina in the USA. I always feel like I am living in an old town but when I see these videos I realize how young our country is compared to yours. Keep them coming.
The place is so amazing,,,old houses really fascinates me,,,it's like watching a british tv series and movies in the early 70s and late 70's,,, like Tales of the Unexpected!
That is a beautiful village. Have missed seeing your Dad and Sherpa's tour videos this last year. Worth the wait though cause now we have Sister Sarah along for the adventure!! 😊💙💙
Seems like you and your dad and Sherpa are having a really nice time visiting all these small towns . Hope to see more of your travels , have a good time , and be safe .
Wow .. It hasn't changed at all ... Sarah, you didn't tell them Dr Doolittle was filmed there! ... lovely video and gorgeous weather for it ... So quiet ... :) x
@@sandyr4656 they should have knocked on the door and said, "Hi! We're your 3rd Cousins, twice removed." Maybe they would have been invited in for a coffee?
Sisiter Sarah, your video editing is coming on in leaps and bounds - neat cuts and voice overs! You ought to be be doing more trips with Sherpa and your Dad, exporing more of the country. Perhaps you could include more of the history of each place you visit? Anyway, really enjoyed this. 👍
Did you know that the original Doctor Doolittle film was made in Castle Combe and the bit of river just downstream of the bridge was used as the harbour?
What a beautiful place to visit. Love seeing the 3 of you together. Glad you are having such a good time. Your enthusiasm is wonderful. Have a good day.
Thank you for taking me on a visit to such a beautiful village. It was like stepping back in time. Meet Jamie, Sarah and Sherpa the best tour guides ever! 😃💛
Many old towns have a covered area where business was done (a small marketplace) and once a week people who made things or had animals to sell would come to the ‘market’. (This is for people to exchange or sell items they maybe made at home vs in a shop). Also, remember they didn’t have running water so building next to a water source was critical. I love these towns and can’t wait when I can travel to come live for about 6 mos in England and spend time exploring all of England.
Wow! This is so "my type of town!". Peace & quiet & birds singing. Jamie, Sherpy & Sarah enjoying this lovely town. I love your dad "I smell coffee!"☕🤗🐕🥰
Imagine if Sherpa went to the nearest estate agents and told them what house he would like to live in that village with your dad. He would be very demanding!
Very beautiful. I enjoy watching your dad, sherpa and your channels. I will probably never get to make it there in my lifetime so these videos are like being there. Thank you to all of you for sharing the beauty of Gods Creations with us.
This village has been used for many many films. The original Doctor Dolittle film but through the power of film they made the small river look like a harbour with boats. Alot of jigsaw puzzles have images of Castle Combe. The thing in the middle with the roof is an old meeting area where village people of the time would meet to discuss things happening in the village. A bit like a council meeting. Also the villagers would sell their wares like a market from around the building and down through the village.
Imagine u go also in Scotland in August to watch Northern Lights with sherpa and ur dad that's gonna be so amazing experience of sherpa cos he is the explorer now,he is so happy
That's beautiful. The villagers must think it's weird to see a car pass by on the road. It would be funny to watch them look out their windows all at once 😆
Sarah, I am behind on your videos. I just watched this one! What a charming village! I love how you and your dad are doing these little tours! We haven't been able to travel during the pandemic so I am living vicariously through you guys -- and Sherpa!
Very cool...I so want to visit this place one day! Such a magical little town....thanks for sharing...(greetings to you, your Dad and Sherpa from NJ.)!
Your fathers and yours videos make me want to come there but this place is exactly how I picture the beauty when dreaming of going I love that quaint town and want to go!
Ehst a quaint old English town. We don't have anything like that in America. Thanks to u & ur Dad for sharing ur travels. I feel like I'm with u. Love to all 3 of u!
That was a beautifully quaint little village. Looked like something you would find in a small valley with surrounding hills/mountains! Thank you for taking us along! This was lovely!👏👏🙏☺️
The river was the setting for the first Dr Doolittle film, where the Dr disembark from his ship...Poirot was filmed there the episode “The Killing of Roger Ackroyd”....a scene in the film “War Horse” where the horse was sold to the army was filmed there too.. My great grandmother was born there, her family’s ancestors and descendants lived there for centuries, the last one was earth 2000’s.
So nice to see that you and you dad have common interest for old town and places. Hope you, your dad and Sherpa have lovely trip all the way. Your spring there is almost summer, we have here in Finland some place last week snowing and cool weather.
Thanks again for sharing another incredible place! It is so serene! I do wonder if it's possible that the hotel is operational and you were on the actual owners personal side?? The sign did say private (as you said), however it's possible there was another way to enter.... Maybe???
Aw! What a lovely little village! So quiet and serine! My kinda place!😀 And Yep ive wanderded on to private land before!! Luckily i hot foot it out of there before anyone notices!!😂 Another lovely video Sarah my dear! I hope you all have a great weekend all of you! Best wishes Terry 😀✌🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻👊🏻💙

What an adorable village. I love visiting old churches and their graveyards. Such beautiful scenery. Hard to take a bad picture there. Sherpa was very quiet. No people on the streets to love. 😞 But we're still live you and your dad's and Sherrod adventures! 😊❤❤🙋♀️
Oh WOW! What a beautiful village! I would love to have a home there. Thanks to you and your dad we get to see all the amazing and beautiful places in your country. I really would love to visit there one day🐶😘😘😘💝💝💝💝💝

Good to see you 3 wandering about! Stay safe.
Sherpa captures the ambiance perfectly. Smart boy!
Peaceful until the motor racing starts

Not real its a film set for Hobbits ..doh
The town is like "frozen in time" and if I want to hide from everyone, this is my dream place to live the rest of my life.
If it has high-speed broadband, you could work from home.
That village looks like its straight out of a fairy tale story book 👍🏻💖
Oh my yes that’s so true 💛💛

A lot of these English villages date back to the middle ages some 8 or 900 years old .

It may have been someone's home in the village👃☕

@@exeter1985 LOL😆 It might have worked!!
little Sherpa sure was quiet in this one. Totally adore that cute little town. Added to bucketlist here. Thx for the vid Sarah
Castle Combe was used in the film 60s film Doctor Dolittle with Rex Harrison.
I half expected to see Hercule Poirot(David Suchet)totter passed on his way to investigate a case of murder most foul.
At first I also thought I was watching an Agatha Christie film 😂
The killing of Roger Ackroyd
Murder most foul was for Miss Marple lol
This little village looks so peaceful. Its beautiful with all the stone buildings so well preserved.
We are so lucky in the UK to have such beautiful places thank you for sharing this with us. Sherpa obviously liked smelling the flowers

Sherpa: "We didn't stay long. No Starbucks. Sis complained to the town managers...they told us to leave."😯
I know 😭😭
A place without a Starbucks is to be treasured and kept that way.
Thank goodness they didn’t pollute this beauty with a starbucks. I hope you were joking with your comment.
