They had to take it down later and write "for peace" instead.

As a young american, I really appreciate seeing members of Russian music and civil society. Firstly, their critiques carry alot more weight than foreign analysts. Secondly, it demonstrates that democracy has a place in Russia outside of “western influence”, and that patriotism is compatible with the desire to improve life for the next generation no matter where you live. To Peace, prosperity, and liberty for people everywhere including Russia.
How about yall from the outside do something to help foster it here huh? Or is thoughts and prayers all you people can offer? You sure love fanning the flames of wars everywhere else and taking things that aren't yours, but when trying to help someone - nah
Thank you. I agree. It has been propagated into many Russian people's minds that patriotism = supporting your nation no matter what. While I think that it is more patriotic to point out the uncomfortable truth and wrongdoings and weak parts when it's due because people (and the society) only benefit from fixing the weak parts at the end and correcting wrongdoings. After all, it is regular people who suffer when those problems are not fixed 🤷🏼♀️ But the people in power are not interested in that. So they propagandize and clowd the thinking of masses. And yes, freedom, peace and prosperity for all the people of the world. From a Russian ❤
@@jpjfrey5673 I don’t disagree. Please remember that Americans are very divided and currently there is a growing populist strain of isolationism (regarding Taiwan, Ukraine, Afghanistan) even as many of those same people support militarism in support of other wars in Gaza, Yemen, ect. We have the worlds biggest stick and cant agree on who to hit or why. Personally I believe we should either discard the stick (massive massive military sending), or commit ourselves to a rules based global order without exceptions for our allies, OR discard the claim of “leading the free world”. The last option, ie accepting a multi polar world “safe for autocracy” is probably the worst, but at least its not hypocritical.
@@波得天 Oh yes, at least the US isn't hypocritical when we will live in a totalitarian, 1984-esque world because the US allowed China to take over the world. 🙄

I didn't vote for any of this. I don't want to go the jail, because clearly neither of you going to take care of me in case of criminal charges from Russia. I just want peace for Ukraine and everybody else in this world.
Yeah, we all want peace. However, to achieve it, every single side should be ready to go for compromises. By staging a coup and settling a puppet president in a country which borders with another superpower which is proclaimed to be an enemy, what else would you expect? Yeah, Putin used this situation not to deescalate but to gain political power, however it would not be possible if opposing superpower would not create such situation in a first place.
Putin is nothing without his population and it’s sad that the population doesn’t seem to take themselves seriously. They are Russia and they can decide if they all collectively want to change things.
I have ticket to the DDT's moscow gig since 2020. In 2020 and 2021 it was cancelled due to covid. In 2022 it was canceled after Yuri said "Homeland is not presidents ass". We still have hope until people like Shevchuk exists. As he always says, love will win. p.s. "DDT were huge in 80's and 90's" - they are still releasing new music, they are still huge.
I found this to be quite an informative video! I didn't know about Yuri Shevchuk's debate with Putin... but now, I know why Putin doesn't usually do debates he can't control! The statement that "Without democracy, Russia has no future" aged a little too well... Thanks for the video!
I used to be one of the viewers who became zombified by the Putin badass videos lol. It dawned on me that he was not being challenged or questioned over some pertinent issues. RT has been a key player in this.
Exactly, just think about it. In 20+ years in power that was his only "debate", a dialog with a person who criticized and challenged him, asked uncomfortable questions and nobody took away his microphone. There were some other rare occasions where some journalists got to ask something challenging, but he either ignores those type of questions or goes on a tangent and responds to something completely different.
A real strong man welcomes debates and doesn't fear opposition. Would a gladiator back in the day be called the best if he only fought against little starved weaklings? Or would one that fought and won against the best of them be considered the strongest? Would an athlete be called the best at their sport if they competed only against newbies or if they won the olympic gold medals by going against the best around the world? This is what is happening in ruzzia right now
Same. I fell into the trap of those videos without fully knowing what's going on in Russia. Now understanding the context, I won't make the mistake of idolizing an authoritarian figure who tries to shut down his detractors by either sending them to prison or poisoning them. Classic dictator behavior.
Putin was really scared 3 times:in a conversation with Shevchuk, after the fire at the Winter Cherry entertainment center, in a conversation with the father of the dead children in the Kemerovo morgue, and finally, during the Wagner group march on Moscow.
I also noticed he looks like 3 miles of bad road. I just didn't invent a compliment to cheer him up. He is too old to be out drinking. He needs to start hitting the gym.
And this is why art is important! This is why art is one of the first things in civil society that gets suppressed right after courts and the media when oppression takes hold. Real artists and good art are a form of pressure. Btw. this is a good way to separate real art from sell outs and 98% of state stabilising journalism from investigative journalism. Good art is an invisible force driving civil society to a point of discourse. It sacrifices itself out of pure will and indures the suffering from state power and society. Real artists are called perverse, sick etc. but this is just why we need these brave few. Next time you look at an artist and shy away from disgust or hatred just stop for a minute and put all your ideological dogmas on the side. Ruling ideology is invisible for almost everyone and every rebellion against it will garner a harsh personal emotional response. Art is the starting point and the freedom of artistic creativity and the resulting creation has to be defended at every moment. We don't know how we will look back at a moment 10 years ago even but we might appreciate the one guy at the table who just can't help him or herself to talk what we all think.
That's certainly one thing the arts do. But ... The relationship between art and culture is a great deal more complicated and branded nuanced than that. Explicitly political art may actually be less effective and influential than implicitly political works, for example.
Yuri has big balls to say this stuff, respect. More powerful, influential people in russia should follow his steps. I would really like if you could do a follow up on the rapper FACE (aka. Russian lil pump) since I heard he has been labeled as a foreign agent and he has been heavily critizizing the goverment
You know.... ahh... The Face started singing about politics just at the time when it became popular. This does not diminish some of his work, but I have always been impressed by Shevchuk. Why? This man risked his life to document the horror that was happening in Chechnya. And yes, he is the only musician who called for voting against Yeltsin in 1996. It was precisely because of what he saw there that became the reason why he was so harsh in his statements towards the Kremlin. It is this fact that makes him Human.
I like how you mentioned the name of the city known as St. Petersburg as Leningrad! Awesome job covering the political culture of the motherland. The argument President of Russia used is known here in the US as the slippery slope fallacy.
Leningrad, Petrograd, and Sankt Petersburg before WW1, it has only changed names during the wars to not be affilated with germany, but it was always a city with a german name..
I love it when our 'elected' leaders are confronted with real, unscripted questions. Their incompetence and lack of up-front knowledge shows up the fact that they are quite unqualified to be in charge of an ice cream cart, much less a country.
They're humans too (sometimes 😅). They don't have to have universal knowledge and all the answers. There's a reason why they have teams and different ministers for different tasks.
This is probably most badass video NFKRZ has ever posted, as a russian myself I know how hard it is to challenge your inner brainwashing and fear so props to Roman for calling out this man!
You all got to remember that Putin is not alone. He has his dogs all over the place, dogs that chew his leftovers. It's not imposible to throw out a dictator, though. Sometimes, when presure increases, his dogs will turn against him. Just like Ceausescu in Romania, back in 89. I fact, I think Putin has nightmares with Ceausescu, Sadam and Gadafi. So, in his mind, if he doesn't debate, it doesn't exist=happy russians=forever in power.
Well said! Though, When a Country has Nuclear weapons it’s drastically more complicated than just turning against the person in a coup as there’s always a possible chance a cornered dog could snap and do something stupid. Who knows.

Putin saying “Protests are very important for a civil society” or whatever back in 2008 kinda reminds me of how Mao encouraged Chinese citizens to write down their criticisms of the government and then promptly executed all of the ones who criticized him. Authoritarians all have the same playbook
It reminds me of right-wingers in South America who show contradictions in defending vicious dictators such as Pinochet, saying freedom of expression must be protected by words and left-wing progressive forces suppress freedom of expression
Thank you for introducing me to Yuri Shevchuk. I just watched a 90 minute interview with him….what an intelligent, brave and decent human being. His song “Boys” is great as well. (Hello from L.A.)
Reminds me of the conference with Putin and the families of the Kursk submarine crew. Super uncomfortable and they stabbed someones mom with a syrringe for getting upset.
Shevchuk is a true legend, I'm listening to his music since 80s. Roman, thanks for bringing this conversation to people's attention today, this reminder is very much needed.
I'm not ethnically Russian, but I grew up around some in the US, & I picked up on his body language of embarrassment, cynicism & displeasure, which in Vova's KGB world is cold & deadly. Thanks for the vid, it really helped me to understand him better. 🎄
Yo it’s crazy I’ve been following your channel for like 18 months and you never fail to deliver 💪🏾. I wouldn’t have thought Putin is THAT basic, like you would’ve thought being the leader of one of the largest most powerful countries in the world he’d have his lies in order and not wearing a 🤡 suit lol
The sad reallity is that most politicians know the questions they are gonna be asked before a press conference. Trump refused to go to the Joe Rogan podcast, because Rogan refused to give him the questions before hand.
Majority of questions are very predictable.Western journos ask Putin questions but it is clear what they are going to ask. But Putin answers questions on regional issues which can be unpredictable.
same thing in Serbia - our president never debates with the opposition. that makes sense tho, making him look bad in front of his audience is a no-no for a (semi)authoritarian regime like Serbia
You guys are going to need to get rid of Vucic before he turns into another Putin ... Or, worse, another Milosevic. I worry that it's in Russian interests to destabilize the Western Balkans ... Just to bring instability to Europe and weaken it, to cause NATO and the EU to get swept up, throwing resources into trying to prevent a return to the worst moments of the 1990s. Meanwhile, many of your nationalists are willing to fall right into that trap.
In Russia rulers govern through _Rule by Law_ instead of _Rule of Law_ _Rule by law_ refers to a situation where laws are used as a tool to control or manipulate society. It suggests that those in power can bend or manipulate laws to their advantage, without being held accountable. This approach often leads to abuse of power, discrimination, and a lack of transparency. _Rule of law_ on the other hand, is a fundamental principle of modern governance that emphasizes the importance of impartial and consistent application of laws. It ensures that everyone, including those in power, is subject to the law. This concept is crucial for maintaining justice, order, and individual liberty.
And the latter is what a police force is meant to do however Roman said that his left wing views make him personally not much of a fan of the police. This is despite the fact that being supportive of the police isn’t an inherently left and right wing position. Anyone who says they’re not much of a fan of a police has to explain how they’d maintain order in a society without some kind of group tasked - whether voluntarily or as a paying job - with maintaining the law and having a monopoly on violence, and which doesn’t lead to mob rule.

I want to add that many of his lyrics have been speaking out against war since years ("The dead city at Christmas - Мёртвый город рождество" or "Do not shoot - Не стреляй") and that the DDT website on February 25, 2022 said: "DDT is against the war".

Each reasonable Russian man wants peace.
Every person will carry responsibility for it's own actions. No one obliged to help anyone in their own fault. That's how our world works
What makes up a country is people. If the people struggle, the country struggles. If the people are exploited by the government, the country degrades.

RT is state sponsored that's why, they got a news channel in almost all languages to spread propaganda
They've created a personality cult around him. Typical dictatorship

Yes. But actually it is about why any person must be into politics (but not in a radical way)
Probably your best vid. Would never have seen this without you. Thanks mate.

This man risked his life to document the horror that was happening in Chechnya. And yes, he is the only musician who called for voting against Yeltsin in 1996. It was precisely because of what he saw there that became the reason why he was so harsh in his statements towards the Kremlin. It is this fact that makes him Human.

Who knows.

I've always loved DDT, even though I've never been to Russia. Papa Yuri is a legend.
Putin hasn't debated because he serves his opponents ☢️ tea before each debate.

The sad reallity is that most politicians know the questions they are gonna be asked before a press conference. Trump refused to go to the Joe Rogan podcast, because Rogan refused to give him the questions before hand.
Well Trump! How does he fit into “most politicians” in a western democracy?
With trump its a comprehension issue. He needs a day to understand the question and 2 to formulate an answer. It is basic at TU (trump University).
Majority of questions are very predictable.Western journos ask Putin questions but it is clear what they are going to ask. But Putin answers questions on regional issues which can be unpredictable.

6:39 The guy that looks directly at the camera, a combination of humour and terror.
Damn, bro single handedly cooked the whole dinner by himself.
In Russia rulers govern through _Rule by Law_ instead of _Rule of Law_
_Rule by law_ refers to a situation where laws are used as a tool to control or manipulate society.
Hope you have a good Christmas Romin 🎄
