The fabled "impossible" 1957 heavy-duty original press of Big Mama Thornton's rarest R&B screamer, in just fabulous condition.
Written and produced by the Bay Area's prolific R&B entrepreneur writer, producer and serial label owner. In fact the main force behind Bay Area black music in the late 50s. Owner of Art-Tone Records, Big Town, Irma Records, Veltone Records producer for local artists like Etta James, Sugar Pie DeSanto, Jimmy McCracklin, Johnny Fuller etc.
The first release on "Irma" named after his young love and future wife Irma Jean Dyer, who "Bob" dedicated several Blues recordings to over the years.
The release number is way out of sync with the rest of the labels catalogue numbers, but if you've ever held a John Fuller at the same time as this disc, it is obviously of an earlier manufacture. Heavy-weight, solid, non-flexible vinyl.
The disc gives up not one but two absolute powerhouses of the genre. After leaving Houston, Texas and Peacock Records, Willie Mae "Big Mama" settled in the Bay Area and hooked up with charismatic Bob Geddins, this is the result of that get together, two highly experienced R&B performers working with the Bob Geddins band. "Big Mama's" trademark rasping snarl at the forefront of both recordings.
Its reputation for extreme rarity, triggered a 2009 bootleg to meet demand - here is the so hard to acquire first press!

Two clean labels, strong gloss on the heavy-duty vinyl, reveals only the merest signs of birth sleeve storage, a fabulous copy of a very rare 45.
