The best description of the blues for me is that it's music stripped down to its essential elements.

Thanks so much for doing this. Recently have started buying the "Must haves" as far as the Blues goes. I already have a few that you have mentioned but I had got to the point where I didnt know where to go or get next. There are so many really crummy recordings and I want the stuff that sounds good. Cant wait to see part 2. Thank you so much Chad some of us just dont know what are decent sounding and what is not. This helps tremendously.

Nice presentation Chad.... Good 2 see some of the old classics getting a re-press job. My Fav. on Taj's Recycling is Texas Woman
Blues but also as you mentioned Sweet H. Chicago is a definitive version. Another blues classic is JLH Serve you right... Still have an lmpulse copy that sounds great. The Otis Spann sounds interesting with Lonnie on guitar. Never seen that import before. Still like your production on the John Hammond "In. my arms again". I'll be watching for the next edition of Blues vinyl.

    Aloha Chad,
Awesome Video, a few weeks ago I purchased a copy of Folk Singer from Acoustic Sounds , thanks to Emma from her RUclips channel eightvinyllow, she did a great review on it. I too started listening to British blues first ,then back track to American blues Musicians, I would read who were their influences of these UK bands. I was blessed to see Muddy Waters in 1977 at the KOOL JAZZ FESTIVAL at the WAIKIKI SHELL, he & his band was awesome.
    Thanks for a great video.
Looking forward to your next one. Mahalo Ed.

FOR ANYONE...We are seeing companies like MOFI reissuing albums that are sourced from the original master tape. We are also seeing albums being reissued that are sourced from a digital source. Can any one of you please explain which reissue approach is the better option for a high end turntable. If a reissue of each type were played on a high end turntable using a blind A/B listening comparison, and both types of reissue (*from the master tape versus from a digital source*) were done to perfection, would one sound better than the other or would they sound close to identical? MANY THANKS!!!

Great fun. As someone who is from Chicago I am quite familiar with the Chess and Delmark labels, but you're list is quite unfamiliar to me which I like. Like another point of view. I love Lightnin too. I have Swarthmore College live which I really like. But you're correct on Otis Spann for sure. The best post war piano player and left us way too soon. One question, why the 45 LPS? Familiar with 33 but I don't know anything about the 45's. Thanks for posting.

Having spent a lot of time in Houston, I am a huge fan of Lightnin’ Hopkins. I have never found a super high quality recording, but Lightnin’ is so good, I was willing to ignore the recording quality. Maybe someday a quality master of his work will surface. I will have to check out the album that ended this segment.

There's more Lightnin' in the upcoming videos. In fact, it has my personal favorite blues album, which happens to be a Lightnin' Hopkins, and this is a very good recording, every bit as good as Muddy Waters Folk Singer.

    • @acousticsoundsks

When Analogue Productions reissues a record, 99% of the time it's from the analog master. Sometimes we issue records that were only recorded digitally, and sometimes we can only get a safety copy, because the master is lost or in bad shape. There is other labels that do cut from digital, but remember we named our label Analogue Productions, we go to the ends of the earth to find the analog master.
