Hearing Bryce Stewart’s story may sound familiar to long-time BiggerPockets Podcast listeners. That’s because Bryce was on Episode 276 where he gave the great metaphor “vacuuming out the truck” relating to real estate investments.
Bryce is back to talk about being a great mentor/mentee, what every contractor needs before working on a rental, how to go from active to passive real estate ownership, and his new book House-Hacker’s Guide To The Galaxy.
Bryce understands what it’s like to be a new investor. Every step seems hard, the end result seems almost impossible, so where do you even start? Simply, take a step forward, no matter how small it is. Even just starting to save a few hundred bucks a month can be your first step towards becoming a real estate investor.
As time goes on, these small steps become giant leaps, and what seemed impossible at first, can now be doubled since you have the know-how. Bryce takes us back to a time where he didn’t know how to get his property taxes lowered, but through very incremental steps was able to make a case and save himself thousands of dollars in the long run.
Looking for a mentor? Stick around to hear Bryce’s top piece of advice for any new real estate investor. This simple tactic can help beginner investors know more about what they’re getting into and also show the mentor they’re serious about their new interest.

4th graders will ask for help. But adults seem to "lose" that ability as they get older. Perhaps it's because we've been programmed not to act "dumb" and not to ask "dumb questions". This indeed limits us and prevents real growth in us as investors (or would-be investors).

So true about the paper sitting there! I have some self storage units going to auction, I dread it so much that the papers have been sitting by my printer for over a week. Today I realized I just need to get them started, and as usual it ended up being much less time and easier than the anticipated dread makes it seem. Thanks for the worker's comp tip! I have a friend getting on my facility's roof later this week, working on getting that form now

Bryce the way you speak is definitely like a teacher. Good teachers make everything digestible in bite sized pieces. I'm a teacher myself, and I often find myself frozen in inaction because everything is so different. We're trying to buy our first investment home and I feel like even though we've watched so many BP videos that we barely know what we're doing. It's scary but we're trying.

One of the better episodes I have seen for Newbies. I think the step by step demonstration went a far way. I think you guys can have a section of the show where you ask a guest to walk (baby steps) us through how they overcame an obstacle just the way how he did it here. Probably can use that instead of the “deal deep dive” just a suggestion

Smart Me: "There are actually 5 small, free steps you can do Right Now. Their website has 'forms' and FAQ's - did you even read those?"
Stupid Me: "No...but it's 8:15 at night - after business hours. I won't be able to get the answer to my questions."
Smart Me: "Send an email and leave a voicemail. It will be in their Inbox when they arrive at work tomorrow. Plus, their number will be in your phone, so you won't have to look it up again to call back, tomorrow at 9am while you're driving."
Stupid Me: "They're going to think I'm stupid."

Reminder: IT IS COMPLETELY FREE TO CONTACT YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER AND ENCOURAGE THEM, THANK THEM, SUPPORT THEM. Seriously. Even if you don't like them or are disappointed with their consistency or ability - it still costs nothing to reach out positively; there's only upside.
