    Finally connected from China.
    Sorry for my focusing error on the SWC.
    One upside of the Hasselblad SWC viewfinder over the Voigtlander besides the bubble level is the wider field of view allowing one to see the lens focus and aperture/SS settings as you compose.
    Again, film photography is always something, i.e. mostly human error - how we learn.
    Thank you Nico for having me on your show.
    Back again with the Flexbody vs 503CX vs 503CX with Mutar PC. Cheers Stuart

    I used to use the same 40mm Mutar setup with a close up ring and a P65 back for table top beauty products. Even had the big polariser for it. Nice bit of kit and really it was only that silly double cable release that was a problem. It didnt like daily use so i always used 2 different cables. Love the SWC also.

    Shame about the photos on SWC, but still a great video. Just got my hands on a 503CW and picked up a few packs of Acros 120 while in Taiwan last week. (Nice to see a youtube creator being honest about their mistakes)

    Nice to see the Cosina Voigtlander viewfinder sat on top of the Hasselblad SWC. Lovely accessory to own. Good comparison attempt.

    good video, and a bonus, we see the PC-Mutar as well,good show.
    PS: for those who are curious, this is similar to the HTS 1.5 adaptor for the H cameras, but this does shift for the V system, so if you don't shoot this regularly, it is a cheaper option than the ARC-body, or the Flexbody( these are view-camera like, movements included in the body design, not adaptors added afterwards, or in lenses added on.)

    used to have the old 40mm for my 503 and it was so heavy and hardly ever used it but managed to part ex that lens against a SWC and love it so easy to carry allday and shoot and when on a tripod with the focus finder chimney great for technical work.

    The SWC can also benefit more by using the appropriate sunshade-hood. (You used the tiny one on the 40.). I am fortunate to have all of the equipment-the 903SWC, The 503CW with both the 40/4 CFE and the 40/4 CFE IF. The SWC always provides stellar results. The 40/4 CFE-IF is also incredible. However, it is a much larger lens. He should also take advantage of the pre-release on the 503CX so that any shake from the mirror slap is gone before the lens shutter is started.

    I extensively used both lenses and like the SWC a bit better but if you shoot architecture like I do with a wide and normal lens the equipment weighs out rather similarly. If you use the ground glass back and waist finder you can comfortably shoot at eye level with the SWC and not be dependent on the finder. The SWC is such a piece of industrial design and there aren’t many cameras that have it’s ratio of lens to ancillary workings. It’s a good street camera in its normal mode. If you can, get one with some use on it and keep it with you.

    Nico and Stuart - great video. Don’t worry about the out of focus....we have all done that. It was awesome to see someone using the Mutar1.4 - not much available about those and it was great to see an overview of how it works. Doesn’t suit my a hasselblad set up but I learnt something. I have the older C version of the 40mm.....and doesn’t that make the leica fanboys wet with desire when I pull it out.

    I wonder if you just shot with both cameras on different subjects and never tell us which one was used how many would guess right which is 38mm vs 40mm lenses? I have and enjoy them both.

    It's a shame that we didn't get to see a proper comparison, but it was still interesting just to see just how wide 38 mm on 6x6 is. Now if only Nico had the 37 mm Fisheye for his RZ. :thinking:

    Love this camera and lense with the 40. Prefer the light meter in the PME 51 but fine with light meter as you used also. Not sure about your shutter speed but I would have went with the mirror lock up and cable release myself. Love the comparisons thanks

    it's OK to screw the focus cause it's a human factor kind of thing.
    but completely screwed composition is all about SWC being just a toy. not a precision tool.

    • @NicosPhotographyShow
      @NicosPhotographyShow  4 года назад +1

      Using the viewfinder is not easy and takes quite a bit of practice. I have a back that lets you use a viewfinder and compose 100% accurately.

  • @baker2niner

    Tape focus on SWC lens down to 10'/3m setting, meter EV, set to f/8, point & shoot. Everything from 5' - ∞ is in focus. That's fundamental to using the SWC. Movement gadgets for PC with the HB aren't that great; better to use a view camera. HB had many accessories that are better for collecting and storytelling than actual use.

      Why? Lots of us make mistakes, its a learning process. This happened to be on video, but we for sure wont do it wrong again.

    • @y2ktube

      @@NicosPhotographyShow - "mistakes, its a learning process" - HUH? Yeah but so many 'clicks' without even checking the focus? - You have to admit, that's a pretty amateur mistake; what is he used to, AF cameras/lenses? - Imagine doing that at a wedding !

    I would love to see more videos with the Hasselblad SWC camera with emphasis on focusing and aperture use to get the sharpest and most depth of field possible.

  • @andyvan5692
    @andyvan5692 2 года назад

    one tip, treat the swc as a RANGE-FINDER camera, NO view through the lens, so focus carefully, and don't forget to!, the 'viewfinder' is ALWAYS in focus!- it is designed for COMPOSING only, to show the field of view the film sees, so, like the arc-body add the ground_glass at the back, and CHECK, then you KNOW it is in focus.These are NOT quick cameras to use, so use them slow and steady, this gets the shot, SAFE, on the film, and in focus/exposed the way you think the shot should be.
