  • I actually bought these bearings thinking that over the years the originals had gotten lost then I realized that this is actually an upgrade from the junk wheel bushings that are standard on this year lawn tractor.

I just completed this project this morning. 2 Tips- A 3/8" extension works great for removing the old bushings and a 1 1/16" socket works great for installing the new bearings. I just hope they last. I'm keeping the old bushings, incase they don't last.

I have the exact same mower and had the exact same problem, those old bushings where the spindles down. Mine got so bad it got to the point where it kept popping to see clips off and I’d be mowing in the wheel would just fall off and of course I couldn’t find the C-Clip anywhere. I just replace the spindles and I ordered a bearing upgrade kit from eBay. I still have the old bushings on there at the moment on the new spindles but the bearings are definitely a better option so when they get here I’ll have to knock them out and the bearings just replace the bushings.
Mine had the wheels falling off for a while because of that but then I moved to the woods and we didn’t have a lawn and I let it sit for three years under a tarp which was a big mistake. Basically just rebuilt everything on the deck two new spindles new belts blades fuel pump I had to take apart and clean the carburetor and replace the PTO clutch the drive belt in the drive pulleys and the steering gears. If you ever have to do any of that stuff I suggest seeing if you can get an electric winch that hangs from the roof of your garage or tip it over on its side because it’s a pain to do all that stuff laying on your back underneath. 😂😂
I would replace the spindles. You can get a set of those for cheap off of eBay also or they’re about 75 bucks from the dealer but with your wheel wobbling like that it puts a lot of uneven pressure on the C-Clip and 10 pop it off. I went through about eight different sea clips because of course when you’re driving on the grass you can never figure out exactly where they fell off yours actually looks pretty good it doesn’t seem to be wobbling too much so you’ll probably be fine. I just got the wheel bearing kit delivered so hopefully I’ll get mine in soon. I already mowed so I’ll probably wait a few days but do it before I mow again, no hurry cause I got new spindles so they work find out with the bushings and there’s plenty of grease in there but the bearings will be much better. I love that these were very popular mowers and you can get cheap parts off of eBay. I spent about $500 on parts come out from the dealer it would’ve been almost 1000 and they we charge about 2100 for labor and parts to do it themselves. I would’ve just thrown the mower away because it’s 2500 for a new one but thanks to eBay I got enough parts to rebuild almost everything on it but the motor for 500 bucks and with cleaning out the carb and a new fuel pump it’s running great. Now I’m stuck with it for at least a few more years. 😂

I found the bearings to not take up quite the axle space as the bushings & added a thin washer to eliminate movement. Good Video .. thanks

Those look exactly like the same kind of bearings they use on fidget spinners lol those are good quality bearings that should last a long time, and hold up to heat, weather and wear.

Lasted me a month on my L130, I tried another more costly ones and they were junk too so I went with the solid ones and they been on going on 2 years with no sign of wear.

Is there any need to add grease after the bearings were replaced with Sealed Roller bearings? I would imagine that any further grease maintenance would not be required. since the new bearings are sealed. is this correct?

You can carefully pull the rubber seals out with a small pick and throw grease in if there isn’t any. I’ve done that sometimes.

Change the axle too. There will be no play at all. The axle shaft will be worn on the bottom from the bushings not supporting wheel.

What's the history behind the old John Deere. Don't tell me that was a curb side find out there lol. Those wheels look so much better man... you may need to do a video on the history of the Deere unless I missed it lol.. stay safe man...

Curious how these bearings have held up over time. How many hours since you put them in? Any issues?

I wonder if they have a kit available for a LA 175? The original wheels are horribly crooked when new. Your wheels were pretty bad from use. Wow.

It's probably the same kit if there is one

Find a socket, or pipe coupling, same size as outer rim of bearing. Drive on. Don’t hit the center moving part of bearing.

Pretty sure the rubber mallet I used is more than sufficient. As shown in the video. Zero issues in the 6 years I’ve installed this.

probably the same issue, Im surprised this tractor had bushings and my craftsman had bearings, granted one of them looked like it had overheated and melted lol

Can't pull the inner seal out of your bearings in red then you can grease the wheel and give it more grease for the birds

I changed mine they was not bearings. Mine was bushings. If you don't keep them greased you will be changing them. Cheap as engineering..
